Hmmm... I don't think it has to be a chopper to be realistic; in BW humans have traveled to other worlds so some things have advanced a whole lot faster than weapons! Interstellar travel alone makes the weapons seem archaic; obviously humanity has enjoyed peace from shortly after now to shortly before BW. The railgun demonstrates incredible ability to store and manipulate energy in huge amounts with little waste heat; that technology should make electric turbines powerful enough for vectored-thrust dropships possible too. You might even use something other than turbines, more exotic. Of course, the whine of a jet engine is just too cool for that to be allowable. 
On the other hand, a chopper would have some gameplay advantages too. Helicopters are very hard to control but this is a futuristic mod so they can have spiffy computerised stabilisation. However, no computer could make the aerodynamic principles support any more fundamental maneuvrability. A brute force vectored thrust craft could move even more nimbly than UT's Raptor and be too durable since there aren't big rotors that can easily be destroyed, making it unbalanced gameplaywise... Aircraft should be frail, depending on not being exposed to fire to avoid being killed.
Spinning blades would make it more vulnerable. :evil: Your transport is easy to destroy partly because of those rotors, so you can't just audaciously drop troops right into a battle; like in real life, it's more strategic than tactical. Of course, you could just throw realism out the window and make a helicopter that behaves like a UT vehicle. :laugh:
