TYPE: Dell Dimension 4600 Multi Media CPU: P4 2.8 Ghz RAM: 1.5 Gb GRAPHICS: 128 MB NVidia GeForce FX 5200 HDD: 120 Gb, IDE OS: Windows XP Home Edition (SP1) SERVER : No PLAY ONLINE: Sometimes (via ADSL), regular UT DM only GAME GRAHICS: Direct3D GAME RESOL.: 1024x768 GAME DETAILS: medium to very high GAME SPEED: Varies widely! Not too good on ONS maps, maps with lots of terrain and/or eye candy, badly optimized maps etc. A small-medium map like DM-Deck17 plays ok with 5-8 bots (all custom). FPS usually below 30. Sometimes there is noticeable slowdown after ~10 minutes of play. Fancy explosions like G5 and M50 grenades tend to disrupt flow. |

Timeframe: Winter 2004-5 Type: assembled in dining room on Christmas morning CPU: 2.2Ghz Athlon RAM: 1GB Graphics: GeForce "FX5500" (only 256 MB) Sound: plain but decent SBlive, Bose PC speakers, $100 headphones HDD: 2-disc RAID 0 on SATA for fast loading OS: Linux "Mandriva" distro (it used to be called 'Drake) Price: about $1200 Server: I wish! Online Play: yeah, when I feel like embarrassing myself (DSL) Graphics mode: OpenGL Resolution: 1024x768 (or 5x4 for taking screens to upload )
Details: blob shadows and everything else as high as it'll go (It doesn't know how to use my driver for articulated.) Speed: buttery smooth even in ONS, unless I do something silly. I just dug up the UT DVD case to see the remmendations. Edit: smiley-owned, D-oh! Dag, no wonder you guys talk about slowing when lots of lead flies. I expected people playing UT to have systems newer than mine, not older... Post edited by: Spiced Hammer, at: 2006/05/11 10:26 |

Quote: Sometimes there is noticeable slowdown after ~10 minutes of play. I don't know much about what goes on under the hood, but I would try the "flush" command and see if that does it. If it works, bind it!

I think I need a better graphics card; that's currently my rig's weakest link. |

For UT2004, you would benefit much more from upgrading the processor. |

lol. too upgrade my entire computer would be pretty expensive. and plus i dont want to waste my money so i have enough to get UT2k7 when it comes out along with some other new releases... like Battlefield 2000something. |

If you wait for UT2007 to be actually released, then you can get a $500 system that can handle it nicely.

I don't know much about Alienware, I never got into prebuilts 'cause I like doing it custom; it's just fun to shop for each part and makes the toy more personal and when you've got all those boxes of parts piled high ready to open and assemble it feels like Christmas morning. Of course, I also like having name-brand parts so I know there'll be driver support for linux and how it's usually more cost-effective... I don't like bling bling cases; IMO a plain matte case conveys a more tasteful and no-nonsense "secure in its superiority" look... If I ever get a loud case, It'll be covered with pastel bunnies and teddies or something to that effect. Showing some one up with a more powerful rig that cost less money could only be made more humiliating with an ultra-girly case. |

![]() towers have organs? O_o? anyways. i might just keep my rig the way it is until ut2k7 comes out so i can just buy the upgrade parts so i know exactly what i need. |
