I've been playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for the past couple of months, which is why I've been gone. That game's addictive.

Never played the Deus Ex games myself but i'm totally for a game that has a good history.

Deus Ex is often compared to System Shock 2.
I never played DX1, but SS2 is my all time favorite game. It is better than Unreal, better than Doom, better than Golden Eye, better than Quake 1 and 2 combine.

Now multiply all those games together and they almost stand a chance.

So yeah, DX3 would probably be worthy to keep an eye on.

I played DX1 not long after it came out. I liked it, but it really wasn't my cup o' tea. Never touched DX2, I believe it mostly got mixed reviews so who knows how good DX3 will be.

If it will stay closer to DX1 gameplay, then it'll definitely be good I think.

But of course it won't sell good. The mainstream of gamers hate to have to use their brain when playing computer games.

My all-time favorite series is the Timesplitter's series. You know, it seems like they are done, because there was no "to be continued" at the end of Future Perfect. But I was at Free Interactive's site, and they ARE making a 4th timesplitters. I am very excited, but there is no real news yet. They just say eventually they'll come out with one. Also, I'm excited about Haze, which is from the same team that made Timesplitters.

Also, way back when Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy came out, I LOVED it. One of the best games I've ever played. However, it was voted by IGN that year, "Best Game No One Played." It was a fantastic game, but for some reason, not many people got word of it or something. However, at the end, it says, "To be continued." That was 3 years ago. I just read that the team "would be delighted" to make a sequel. However, that doesn't mean they will. The game sold quite poorly, although it was a VERY good game to everyone who noticed it.

Check out BioShock. It isn't directly a sequel but will stay very close to the gameplay that System Shock 2 had.

From what little I saw of BioShock it looks very awesome.

Now what do you mean Bjossi, by it not being a direct sequel? Does it take place in the same universe or something? Or just as if it was a continuation of the game in actual gameplay terms?

The same developer is making BioShock that made System Shock 2. It isn't a direct sequel because they are two seperate games when it comes to story and environment, but they both share the gameplay which is a FPS/RPG hybrid.

Indeed, not only that but it looks mouthwateringly good.

Bioshock definatly looks awesome and that neato style is has is kinda cool.

Don't forget that it is not a mindless shooter, not even close. If you played System Shock 1/2 or Deus Ex you'll have a good background knowledge of Bioshock's gameplay.

The gameplay looks quite deep (no pun intended), having to attack huge 'daddy's' in huge metal scuba suits whilst getting some sort of vial for little girls, seems off counter to me, but thats a good thing i think.

The original Deus Ex was an amazing game. Loads more replayability than any other fps I've played, with the possible exception of oblivion, though oblivion's massive length makes replaying it a somewhat intimidating task. Regardless, Deus Ex was the most enjoyable FPS I've ever touched. The gameplay was golden, the environments were rich, and the story - and storytelling - was amazing. The multiplayer was also excellent and is a regular at the LAN parties I host to this day.

Deus Ex 2. . .Was a little disappointing. It wasn't as good as the original, though it is still a very fun game that I've replayed several times. It had an excellent physics engine long before HL2 was out, though the entire engine was very poorly optimized and I can still get choppy framerates in it. The textures were also kinda bad, but the community built released very good texture packs that fixed that. Only real complaints that I have against DX2 are that it was streamlined for a console release, losing some of the fun gameplay elements from the original, and the lack of multiplayer and modding utilities.

I'm really excited about DX3, as my previous post should indicate, and I hope it's done well. The fact that this one is going to be done without Warren Spector on the project team leaves me wondering if this means it's going to dissapoint, or if fresh minds can breathe life back into the franchise. Either way, we'll see.

I don't know about Deus Ex or BioShock/System Shock 2, but I did play Deus Ex 2 and I just loved that game!
I can hardly believe that there making a third one, but I'm sure it will be good too. The main thing that drew me to it was my experience with Morrowind, some reviews for it, and the fact that the box said "not for sale outside of North America." I hope this really gets released, because the filefront site for it stopped updating a while before, claiming that any sequels were shelved permanently.

Deus Ex 2 stands no chance against DX1 or either System Shock game, so you are probably gonna love Bioshock if DX2 impressed you.

It's not that intimidating. Plus, on PC, you can download mods to extend the length or enrich the game.

My point about oblivion is that each playthrough is gonna take 20-50 hours, depending on how much exploring and how many sidequests you do. I don't know about you guys, but 50 hours of gaming is a pretty significant investment for me.

I try and do at least one playthrough of both DX games every 6 months, and those take about 16 hourd for DX1 because I love doing everything and not missing a single detail, and about 10 hours for DX:IW. Both were good games, but DX1 was. . .Amazing.

I've just got my hand on a copy of invisible war, and so far I'm liking it as much as DX1, but yeh it's poorly optimized, and needs the patches available. Not keen on the universal Ammo idea though, I don't really wanna see it in 3.

Liking the Omar too, miss the ability to pile LOOOADS of mods into the pistol or sniper though, and the Biomod system should be more like 1, and have EXP again. and the inventory's minute.

How on earth would they make a Deus Ex 3 story-wise? I like how Invisible War (DX2) handled the first one's endings, but the endings for IW are just too concrete. They leave nothing to the imagination like the original did. Also they all sucked.

Personally, I'd like to see DX3 as a prequel.

And no, the endings to IW did not suck. They weren't as poetic as the DX1 endings, but they were more solid endings.

DX2 was more open-ended story-wise, but DX1 was more open-ended about how you dealt with specific parts of missions. This allowed them to give the player a lot of room to play around while still keeping the story linear enough to tell a good story, while letting the player also control a lot of small details.

And really, too much of DX got taken out of DX2 to streamline it for consoles. I think the best indicator of whether DX3 will be a good game is whether they decide to produce it as a cross-platform game or not. And that will probably be one of the first things we hear about it.

I really just didn't like IW's plot compared to DX1. I mean everyone I helped in the first one did a complete 180 on their ideals and were complete dicks in IW.

The only logical ending was JC's ending. The Templar ending was essentially suicide, since you couldn't use your new toys anymore. Dumier is a dick and has blackmailed you before, so he's a no go. And Jankowski's ending was just insulting, coming out of nowhere.

I think it would still work as a cross-platform game, given the 360 and PS3's power. I mean Oblivion worked as a multi-platform game, and it seems a much more complex game than Deus Ex.

Well, Chad and Nicolette I thought were actually pretty consistent with their original characters. Tong was the one I thought was out of line.

And my biggest problem with making it cross-console isn't the loss of graphics, but the loss of gameplay complexity. DX2 lost a lot of the depth of the biomod system, neutered the weapon mod system, and completely did away with the experience system. The inventory system got screwed as well, and don't even get me started on ammo.

The problem with consoles is that they don't have a hundred buttons for the controls DX1-style gameplay required.

Oblivion worked because while the gameplay was complex, it only requires a few keys. DX requires a lot more real-time multitasking.

I'm sure they won't make the same mistakes. Unless they want to drive the franchise into the ground. :\

Does anybody know anything about the company producing it? Do they have a good record?

As far as I've hears, it's being produced by Eidos's new Ontario studio, and this is their maiden project.

So, basically, we don't know anything about them. Maybe we could dig up stuff about specific personell, though. I do know Warren Spector is no longer involved with the franchise, which could be either a good thing or a bad thing.

I certainly hope they don't make the same mistakes, and it shouldn't be that hard for them to get back to the kind of experience that DX was. I I REALLY hope they use a good, well-optimized engine. Preferably Unreal3.

Invisible War is like Oblivion, sequels to great games that were crap because they were made for consoles, not PC's like the seris was made for.
