i downloaded the new Nexuiz release a bit ago and was fairly pleased. the graphics are great, i think the game is much better looking than ut2004... Nexuiz supports bloom, HDR, gloss, real time this, real time that, blah blah blah. i can only have a few of the lighting enhancements on a time to keep a 40-80 fps range(i turn shadows and other real time lighting effects off to save fps). i play on high detail settings with a few lighting effects on(like i said before).

the game plays great online or in bot match(although some of the maps dont have good bot support). the game types are "rune match"(- collect different power ups to become more.... powerful :? ), death match(-duh!), ctf(-meow...), team death(-umm...), domination(-ut rip off!), instagib(- i think thats in there).

i always find a bunch of servers with lots of people on, its a good time if your killing time or just plain sick of bland ut2004. the weapons are totally balanced..... i mean you can kill any one with any weapon no matter what weapon they have in possession. what depends on how you get the kill is how well you've mastered the weapon and if you can use its strengths against your foe's. also it matters how much health and armor you have, its good to whore what ever you can pick up. the weapons range from machine guns to laser pistols(of course theres a rocket launcher and many other weapons of mass destruction!).

the maps are flat out beautiful..... especially with HDR and Bloom lighting on *drools*. im trying to upload pics i took from this one map called "overdose:blue" that gives off this wonderful blue glow. it looks like a big ice cave or something.... man its awesome to look at. i cant find the screenshots i took tho(they were saved to some where on my comp but i cant find them !mistrust ). well i'll post some pics if i can get the sn's to appear some how......

the models and character skins are great, they look really solid and add a great feel to the free game. the maps are great, the graphics are beyond amazing for a free game, the online play is always fun(as well as bot support play), and the new game types add a new feel to the deathmatch bound game.

Most games released at this point should look better than UT2004. Unreal Engine 2.0 is now 4 years old

Sure does look good. Are the weapons nice and shiney? I am a fan of futuristic and innovative guns. Hope to see something fresh.

i think it depends on what lighting effects you have on, things always look nice and colorful/shiny when the effects/graphics are turned up. i like the weps =]

I just tried this for a few moments. The gameplay feels rather simplistic to me, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Must try it more now. :D

Is it just me, or does the fps jump around a lot more than most games?

Sometimes I'm up to low 90's, then I turn the corner it my fps drops to 40. Its rather weird, but I lowered the texture detail and my fps seems to stay in the 60's range and is a bit more stable.

I only played a few rounds, but I can tell this is a keeper. Seems great for quick LAN matches with me bro.

Few questions though. Any way to make new models/skins? I'm not really too crazy about the selection, personally. Also, is there a map maker available?

Also, are there ways to make your own mutators and/or new weapons? There's a nice amount of customization already, which is awesome, but being able to make my own stuff would really put this game on the top of my list. :)

Nah, its not you, i'm very sure its the FPS genre, since things are changing and appearing and disappearing fast as hell in FPS.

The framerate being stable or not is mostly up to the engine, the way it renders the world around you.
I'm gonna download this if I have enough quota left by the end of the month.

Edit: I was expecting some crazy system requirements. But I forgot that James has a Mac.
I'll be maxing this one out on my soon-to-arrive 19" LCD monitor, 1600 x 1200 will be a nice change from 1024 x 768, my current max res.

bjossi the system requirements are high, if your using all of the effects available. the game will run on a lower end machine if detail is lowered and certain effects are turned off.

i havnt tried it running windows yet.... maybe i'll get better performance....

On their website it says higher settings require 1.5 GHz Intel processor, 512 MB memory along with Geforce FX 5700 or Radeon 9xxx. My previous computer was much faster than that. !dodge

Well anything in 19inch must be good. Though having a LCD at 22inchsis better (which is my screen... only a week and a half now til it arrives.)

The size doesn't tell anything about the quality.
You need to take into consideration brand reputation, response time, sharpness, native resolution, etc.
