on my intel mac. no emulator.... just windows xp. so far every thing works fine, i downloaded anti-virus and all that good stuff. i had some trouble with live update but i tried it again and it worked fine. the first day i had windows installed i scanned and found spyware , i quickly got rid of it.
i played the Half Life 2 demo on max settings and the game runs smooth as any thing, havnt checked the fps yet(not sure how to...). i really want to buy the game. i also played F.E.A.R. which doesnt run as smooth on higher settings..... i havnt patched it to the most recent version(that could have something to do with it). im pretty much use to windows now and love playing games on it, but on mac osx i dont have to worry about viruses/spyware at all. windows does have its uber frustrating moments, i've experience a few so far. i think things will work out though. so what are some good games i should check out? i have the F.E.A.R. multi player demo(which i cant play till i update it or something) and War Rock which wont start cuz it cant unzip the auto update thing(idk). |

HalfLife 2 has low system requirements compared to games like FEAR. I'd say it is because of FEAR's way superior lighting system. And how the hell did you get spyware so soon?
I have had my Windows running for over a year on my current setup and not even once had a virus nor spy/ad-ware sneaking into my hard drive. Anyways, I'm glad you can now play games the way they are meant to be played. By the way, use Fraps for framerate measuring, it has many other useful features too. |

Check out this link: http://www.thepcspy.com/articles/other/ ... ows_down/3 According to it, Norton is the biggest performance hog you can possibly install on a computer today. And that is not counting all the bad things it does. You can't unInstall it without a special tool, and enhances Windows with an API that hides folders for you, so manual unInstall is impossible. In other words; Norton is a virus. And if you look around various forums, you'll see that Norton is frowned upon by pretty much every person. |

As PC Gamer said "WarRock is a poor man's BattleField 2 and Counter Strike: Source." Simple as that. From the reviews, its okay, but it ain't worth shelling out 14.99 a year (or month, i forget) to get better weapons in the game. Your best off buying Half Life 2 Game of the Year Edition, you'll get HL2 HL2 DM and CSS along with HL. I've grown to love HL2 DM, just cause its deathmatch like UT2k4 is but with the HL2 weapons. If your an RTS fan, you got to grab Age of Empires 3 and its expansion The War Chiefs. I love the whole AoE3 theme, muskets and cannons, huge naval ships and a physics engine to boot. Another great RTS series is Rise of Nations and its expansion Thrones and Patriots, the expansion makes the game even better with Persians, Indians, Inca's more Conquer The World scenarios like The New World which are fun as hell. You can start off during the dawn of man, the first steps of civilization, move into the medieval ages, progress through sheer will into the gunpowder era and ultimately find yourself fighting in the modern era, launching nuclear strikes on cites or armies to wipe them out. But I've fallen in love with a little mod for it, which boasts the games population limit to 600 from its original 200. It might not allow you to play online but who cares, the AI is amazingly tough and having 600 units make battles that much more enjoyable and doesn't ruin anything and its integrates great on how the pop limit rises. Some will say a down side to RoN is its graphics, which even at the time weren't amazing, but its the gameplay that stands out, its one of the RTS's that when you play against 7 computer opponents, and it takes 3 hours of intense diplomacy, strategic bombing of cities and clashing armies on land, sea and air, you really have a sense of having done something amazing. |

Don't forget HL2 Ep1.
And James, as my post above suggests; unInstall Norton as soon as you can. Find any tools and help necessary to do so. I have had personal experience with that piece of shit and you can't believe how much faster my computer got. Plus Norton sucks at it's job, free anti-virus software like AVG or NOD32 do the job much better, and cost nothing. |

I'm just waiting for Ep2. I don't care much for TF2 or Portals, though the latter may be fun. |

Hey, Ugly, you ought to add me on steam if you play HL2DM much online. My account name is my name here spelled backwards, Rymosrac. Anyways, I definetly recommend getting the whole HL2 package. Source in an awesome engine, HL2 is a great game, HL2DM and CSS are both great fun online, and there's quite a few promising mods on the engine. Easily worth the 20 or 30 bucks it'll cost you these days. |

There are free versions, at least AVG. I'm not sure about NOD32 since I never used it before. I had just heard it is free. |

Like i said in your "Happy Birthday" thread, go get Battlefield 2 Deluxe, or 2142. BF2 isn't too heavy on the quality but if you can find a good or well known server the gaming would blow you away... However, everything comes at a cost. You might get a horrible squad leader or commander, and cheap tactics are frowned upon. 2142 I heard is a great game. Never actually tried it, though. The newest game I have on my shelf is Shivering Isles, you know, the Oblivion expansion. |

I've played both BF2 and BF2142 a lot, and they're both pretty fun. 2142 has gotten pretty lame, though. WAY too many unlockables. The thing might as well be an RPG now. BF2 is still loads of fun. |

Battlefield 2142 is indeed great so long as you have a better PC than I do. 19 fps on minimum settings! alright! Otherwise its fun, I loved defending the control points with my rocket launcher and ambushing vehicles and they approach. Its a vehicle dominant game so its satasfying to blow them up as a foot soldier The feature game mode is like onslaught but the power core is a massive hovering battlecruiser called a titan. You take down its shield by controlling the ground objectives then you board the (heavily armed) enemy titan like a pirate and attack its reactor. Then you have to make dramatic escapes to the escape pods or dropships before the enemy team players on the ship gets them...or you can go down like a hero when the ship explodes. I left taking out the Titans to the guys with better machines, my FPS drops to 2 just going into the docking bay and I teamkilled a guy trying to shoot the enemy players teleporting everywhere
Just be wary of how you can respawn inside the driver seat of vehicles, this led to some nasty surprises as aircraft take off the moment you spawn in them and I had no idea how to pilot the suckers. I got called a noob alot when that happened. Be sure to play single player for some flying lessons or for the demo go on a private LAN game and practice |

I played it at a friend's house, having toyed with the demo for a bit some months before. I love the recon kit. The cloaking device is just too ♥♥♥♥♥ awesome to stay away from. What annoyed me was the high graphics settings he placed it on, which his machine clearly couldn't run. I've had so many failed knife-attempts due to the extreme slow-down once I got close enough to the enemy. On another note, I saw a guy knife two enemies shooting at him at once. It was awesome. |

i've been playing demos on steam and i downloaded this kick ass horror FPS called "Penumbra", its a puzzle game in a FPS based on a story of a guy looking for clues about his father(dead) that hes never met. the graphics are amazing and the physics are..... beyond amazing? you can pick things up(kinda like in half life2) to move them around(barricade, make stairs, etc).. download and web site: http://www.frictionalgames.com/penumbra/ "Penumbra 2006 Tech Demo uses our in-house develop 3D engine, featuring the latest graphics and physics technologies. Thanks to these technologies Penumbra is able to immerse players into it's world of horror, unlike anything seen before within the genre. Dynamic shadows, normal mapping and specular effects creates a dark dynamic visual environment, creating a world of constant change. Motion blur, noise filters and bloom is used to create a world where sanity has no place. The physics engine, using Newton Game Dynamics, allows the player to interact with object in new ways where doors drawers needs to be pulled open and doors barricaded to keep the evil out. Each object creates unique sounds based on surface and force, you can never predict how anything will behave or sound in this world. In Penumbra the player finds himself in an underground base on Greenland, searching for his lost father. It's an adventure horror game, free from classic first person shooter elements, with an emphasise on puzzle solving and exploring. Constantly on your toes you will never know what to expect, with no weapons how do you protect yourself?" the system requirements are low and yet the game looks.... fantastic. also the physics really boggle the mind. i havnt gotten to far into the game so i havnt seen much, look at the media at the web site to see what it looks like. |

Spawn-campers everywhere... too bad, the games was promising, but its flawed... an example, worst showcase of a dead body every, you turn into a bloody sack, and before that, you become all blocky and lying straight when you die. |

I like WarRock, I play the free version. But yeah, PC Gamer has right, WarRock is a poor man's BattleField 2 and Counter Strike: Source, but the free version of it isn't that bad. Anyway I wouldn't pay for the game... The graphic is outdated, it's some annoying bugs here and there. And there's no singleplayer part, or even bots... that's kinda sucky... Oh, and Penumbra is a Swedish game! Yay!
Looks kinda cool too.
