I felt like posting a new and fresh topic here.
I wanted to discuss Doom 3 alittle, in my opinion one of the more underestimated games of 2004/5. Btw, in case I´m the only one here who has played Doom 3, let´s make this thread a discussion of a game of choice.
Anyway, do you guys think that the game has waaaaaay too much ammo and resources? You get so much ammo for your guns that you can kill satan himself and still have enough for the Maledict and the Cyberdemon... |

maybe thats cuz you should be playing on a harder skill level;? most games do that, try the hardest or second hardest game mode. |

I have finished the game on nightmare difficulty, same ammo "issue". I made a mod for myself to make ammo alot less scarce, if you want a challenging game, I could compress and upload it and give you a link. I also made a tiny PK4 to make the flashlight cast blue lighting, it kicks ass. If you want a color of choice, I can create a new PK4 in a minute or two. |

My PC is crap too, and it can run Doom 3 on High Quality 800 x 600 very smoothly. The game isn´t demanding anymore compared to the computers today. A video card that costs less than $100 can run it very nicely. |

My computer can't even run Ballistic Weapons without having sudden low-frame spikes. I think the weapons may have too many polygons for my computer to handle. Which brings me to this question.. how much do you think a video card to run UT2007 smoothly would cost...? |

You would do fine on medium settings with a Geforce 6800, at least 256 Mb DDR3 card with high clock speeds. I´d suggest BFG vendor, but their cards are famous for having loud cooling. Believe me, it´s true, I´m using a BFG brand of FX 5700... I´m going to ask, am I the only one here able to run Doom 3 on High 800 x 600, and UT2004 on max settings on a computer that costed less than $900 nearly two years ago? Ballistic was made on 2 PC's.. one is a Celeron 1.1ghz, 384mb RAM, geforce fx500.. the other is a Celeron 333mhz, 256mb RAM, geforce 4 it's kinda slow on high detail.. the main problems seem to be ram related.. as for a UT2007 video card.. a lot! |

Well, you guys remember when I was saying how powerful my PC was earlier today. Guess what, my desktop is gone, so are video drivers, and DX is now 9.0b. If I try to install either video drivers or new DX, I get the blue screen of death during the boot of Windows. Whatever happened, I can´t play Ballistic until I find my WinXP disc. And the worse thing is that I have never installer/repaired an operating system before. The irony...

And how much is the performance difference? Major difference, or insane difference, or more?

Hey BJ can you do a multiple colored flashlights like more than 1 color at once? If not can you do Orange and red, green, yellow and purple? Doom3 runs well on this thing although my geforce 4 makes it look dull but ut2004 runs awesome and runs really well with this ballistics mod !

I think Doom3 is boring as hell, while playing the game all what you see is labs, labs and labs again...
Oh i almost forget about minigun that shoots slower than Assault rifle which is lame as all other weapons. |

The shotgun has ridiculous spread, weapons are chubby and as said same enviroments all the way through the game. Monsters are much weaker than in previous games. |

I love Doom 3. Love the feel of the weapons, though the spread for the shotgun is a bit too high, and the minigun's fire rate is too slow, as others mentioned. Fortunately its an easy fix, and Bjossi already fixed them to my likings anyways. The monsters are not weaker than the Classic Doom monsters. They move much faster and it takes more hits to kill them because of that, though the health is pretty close to being the same. They're also more brutal in melee combat. And the environments are absolutely awesome. Rich in detail and they truly give you the feel that the Mars colony is something that was made for actual living quarters and science labs and stuff, not as some levels for a game. Plus the rich variety in environments is simply awesome, and I like how the architecture remains consistent, adding to the feel that this was at one point a living, breathing community. |

If your going to play doom3, do yourself a favor and download (one of)these mods which update the graphics and gameplay drastically. MaxGFX Parallax Extreme GreenTech These not so much affect gameplay, but fix up problems in doom3 like weapon balance(enemy AI, object placement, etc). Those are the most recent versions of the mods I'm pretty sure. |

Whoa, I have a hard enough time handling it (actually, its mainly just the shadows that hurt my performance...). I think I'll stick with what I got for now. |

these not only make D3 looks absolutely amazing(especially MaxGFX and GreenTech), but they also tweak the doom3 preferences so that the game runs better on your hardware. Turn shadows off, adjust your screens resolution, turn on anti-aliasing if you want, then go to town with these mods. They run and look better than vanilla doom3 if you get what im saying(less lag hitches and all that bull). |

I've heard it gets repetitive and relies too much on cheap scares. You end up knowing exactly when and where the next monster will show up. |

Its a good game, Kaboodles, and the monster placement feels much like Classic Doom's. So if thats just based off cheap scares, I dunno, but I like it. |

The enviroment looks overly gloomy and non-happy. I remember the first elevator you see in the game and I thought it was some strogg thing. |

Well its not supposed to be some kid's play place. Its a colony on Mars, an underground colony. You're gonna get dark and gloomy.

Good game, yes some of the scares can be rather cheap, like kick you in the nads cheap. But overall its a good game, a LITTLE repetative but thats only because of the enemies. The weapons are good but the shotgun is the only gun you only need to use and you can win the entire game (beat it on hard vetran using only the shotty) FIRST time only your alowwed to be scared but NO MORE afterwards. If you get scared any other time then you my friend are a sissy. |
