So, I thought I'd spark a conversation on how you older people or your parents are about video games (excluding the ones that take no interest at all). Take, for example, my dad. He loves UT99 to death. Like many old-timers, he didn't like the gameplay of "feel" of UT04. However, I just can't stand not being able to dodge rockets and flack with much effectiveness in UT99, after having played nothing but UT04 for a while. Without the double-dodge-jump (or super fast quad wth all my muts), I say that it's less reflex/skill and more "don't be in the wrong place a the wrong time" when someone has a rl of flak cannon. My dad, on the contrary, says that people are just too hard to hit in UT04, which I agree with a little. When I put on the ballistic weapons (which I love), He kept complaining about the spammy graphics of things like the flamer, lg, and skrith rifle. I thought it was tasteful eye candy and the twist in weapon usage (more than "you shoot, they die") was nifty. My dad got frustrated and kept saying, "I just wanna shoot people". Given this, when I got 2 copies of Ghost Recon 3 (GRAW) with my 2 new vid cards, I noticed that you can actually do co-op. My family has always loved the co-op in Quake 2. We cried at the lack of co-op in other fun shoot-em-up campaign game, such as HL2. "Will Rock" was fun, but dragged after a while with just clearing a room, pressing a lever, clearing a room, go through a door, etc. Thinking I knew my dad's preferences, I figured he would absolutely hate it GRAW. You can't "Just shoot people". You have to crawl, run away, hide, wait for enemy to reload, etc. However, to my complete surprised, he gobbled it down and is usually the last to die because he has no trouble hanging back (I always rambo into an area and take something in the back). Funny. So, anyone else have notice similar preferences with older people? Just curious. |

Hmm... my dad, he plays games every once in a while. Generally he dislikes complex games, and doesn't like using a keyboard and mouse. He prefers fighting games on consoles best, but he loves playing Mechwarrior 4 on pc every once in a while. He's incredibly good at it too! He uses a joystick for it, but that's still a rather complex game and it surprises me that he likes it, but heck, its a fun game to play with a couple people. Not my favourite, but not bad either. |

My dad like UT2004, and even more BW 2.0, we often play LAN, he's kinda good, still, he didn't like those kind of games, but he was pretty good when he played UT2004 for the first time. My littlebrother also like UT2004. Dad also like IL 2. |

My own dad took a strong taste for Project IGI. He liked shooting things but he prefured if it made him have to strategise. He did not like the unconstructive "Duhhh, I pull teh twigger n teh die" attitude of Quake 3 and UT2004 He also enjoyed Halo and is highly skilled at the game that spawned space sims: Descent and Descent 2 But Tyster do mind the word "Dinosaurs", I think one or two people on this forum have kids themselves and are the oldies you think of. |

my dad never really got into ut2004 as much as he could have. he couldnt get use to all of the buttons on the keyboard and the sheer jumpyness of the bots or online players. he played it for about a year on the lowest difficulty mowing down bots with the flack cannon to get what little joy he could out of the game

My sis doesn't really like games, although she does get a short spark of interest in some of my games. My bro plays MMORPGs, CS, and WC3. My cousin is in love with Sports Games right now, but he finds FPS boring since he thinks it's almost like "walk around the map and kill people" type of stuff. |

My bro plays UT2004, Oblivion, X3 Reunion and mainly other shooters. He tries to map aswell, but isn't great into that yet ^^ My sis plays UT2004, Oblivion and... not much else.. I play UT2004, Oblivion, X3 Reunion, EVE online, Freelancer, Call Of Duty 2, FEAR and the Half Life series. My dad plays Total Annihilation, Age of Empires III and some other stratigy games. He dislikes shooters but he plays Freelancer aswell. I'm the real gamer in house!!
