The global warming is a serious world problem, I saw the Al Gore movie with my school
class, and that movie really made me care of
global warming, but actually Sweden should not
care that much like USA and China and the other
countries. Cool that South Africa is in a world wide
consert event.

Global warming isn't a problem. Or at least one anyone can fix. You know how our planet has been in a mini ice age time before now (about 1000 or 500 years ago)? Who's to say this isn't one of Earth's warming periods? It's not like the Ice Age is the only one! And Al Gore? He's already trying to get back into the public spotlight again? You know, I seriously doubt politicians care about anythying more than the money... but that's my sole opinion.

Well what if we really are the problem? What if we are causing problems with our climate? Should we just continue polluting our only planet just because it might be simply a warming period? Better safe than sorry, I say. The only reason people would be opposed to more environmentally-friendly practices is that it would cost more money for them to implement.

I did n't say that! I was meaning to not worry so damn much. It's not the end of the world!

Live 8 should battle against more serious issues than this so-called global warming; like getting Bush's ass out of the white house.

Global Warming is a problem and we are the reason its happening so fast. Not saying that the Earth warming isn't normal. It's just the rapid rate at which its climbing is totally abnormal in its history. Carbine Dioxide levels are massive and are warming the planet, its been proven, and sorry to say it but if you don't believe it, your just fooling yourselves or are just trying to pretend we live in a perfect world... which we don't.

I agree with OC and Bijossi on this. I don't believe that humans are the sole cause for "global warming", there are other factors at work. Plus I don't consider Al Gore to be an expert on the environment anyway, when ever he's on t.v. talking about Man-Bear-Pig, I mean global warming, I either change the channel or turn it off.

Al Gore is a ♥♥♥♥♥, he put up so much Co2 in the atmosphere when he made that movie, its ♥♥♥♥♥ laughable.

well, it's not so much the warming brought on by global warming that I'm worried about, so much as another potential, I think- global cooling brought about by the disruption of the thermohaline circulation.

Then, there are some fairly radical ideas out there:

When Mount Pinatubo erupted 16 years ago in the Philippines it cooled the Earth for about a year because the sulfate particles in the upper atmosphere reflected some sunlight.



Several leading scientists, from Nobel Laureate Paul Crutzen to the late nuclear cold warrior Edward Teller, have proposed doing the same artificially to offset global warming.



Using jet engines, cannons or balloons to get sulfates in the air, humans could reduce the solar heat, and only increase current sulfur pollution by a small percentage, said Tom Wigley of the National Center for Atmospheric Research.



"It's an issue of the lesser of two evils," he said.



Scientists at the Center for Atmospheric Research put the idea into a computer climate model. The results aren't particularly cheap or promising, said NCAR scientist Caspar Ammann. It would take tens of thousands of tons of sulfate to be injected into the air each month, he said.



"From a practical point of view, it's completely ridiculous," Amman said. "Instead of investing so much into this, it would be much easier to cut down on the initial problem."



Both this technique and the solar umbrella while reducing heating, wouldn't reduce carbon dioxide. So they wouldn't counter a dramatic increase in the acidity of the world's oceans, which happens with global warming, scientists said. It harms sea life, especially coral reefs.



Despite that, Calgary's David Keith is working on tweaking the concept. He wants to find a more efficient chemical to inject into the atmosphere in case of emergency.
