The new line up of video cards won't be out until 2007 so the fastest you can get then is 7900 GTX/X1900 XTX video cards, or AMD64 AM2 or Intel Conroe. I could be wrong though. :S |

I haven't checked my FPS ever...I'll put all settings on highest and play a normal 16 people match...how I check FPS? Happy B-Day James. Our computer's been getting better just through simple upgrades. |

You can use Fraps. Just download a free limited version and keep the program in the system tray and start UT2004.

Ok, I got some measurements lol. I turned every single graphic thing onto the highest level (the announcer did say holy shit). On a regular 16 people in all match, no mutators, I averaged around 35-40 fps. Then I did another match with same thing, only I had Bloody Hell and BW in. When I wasn't in a battle and there were no bots on the screen, I got an average of about 50 fps. When I was in a battle and there were bots, I got only 20-30 fps on average. Not so good, I think, although it all did ruun very smoothly anyhow. I did both tests at Zeitkind. |

35-40 fps not bad at all:ohmy: mine is a paltry 10-20 fps with like 4-5 bots..  DC's PC is about 80-90 or so.. p4 HT 3.2ghz.. 512 MB ram.. but only a bottom of the range video.. geforce 5500 or something...

I tried for fun to put on Holy shit settings, ran a 32 bot ONS map, 1024 x 768 with no AA/AF, and I averaged around 200 FPS. Pretty impressive even for my system.  hmy:

The game is more CPU dependant, I do have a AMD64 X2 4400+, which is one of the better processors out there. |

Yet he was getting smooth action all around (afaik) while mine chugs like a slug on many maps, or when the action gets intense with lots of bots & explosions. So if the CPU and everything else is the same, and only the cards differ, then logically fancier card = (significantly) better performance.

That is true, there is noticable difference, but it would much more obvious if upgrading CPU to a much better one. And James, threads created in this forum are doomed to end up off the original topic, it is just how a discussion evolves.
