I've made a small movie with fraps, but strangely its too big for YouTube, over 100mb although its just 29 seconds long, how can I make that less? You'll see my bomber in action in ONS-LimboBombers. ^^ |

open the movie with windows movie maker and save it as a wmv file. Then it should be like 4 mb or something like that. 100 mb is waaay to big for Youtube.com. |

Windows movie maker is a piece of crap if you just want to just compress movies. Get yourself the free video compressor known as VirtualDub. It's pretty simple in usage: Open a video, go to Video -> Compression and select a codec, then Save as AVI. But if you want to reduce filesize dramatically you need to use advanced codecs like DivX that have plenty of useful optimization/compression settings. Another compressor I can think of is inside the RAD tools package. I have never tried use it yet but I've read good things about it. |

Fligt movement looks nice. About video, would use the following: Most compatible and bigger size: .mepg / mpeg 1 Average: .avi / DivX or XviD Smaller size: .avi or .mkv / h264, x264 or Theora The lower on the list the higher chances some people will need to install codecs, but the smaller size for same quality of video. As software to encode the videos, for windows, virtualdub or nandub (same as virtualdub but divx codec incorporated inside) Fraps afaik doesnt compress at all, so video size is a few bytes more than width*height*(screen_bits/8)*frames which means huge videos. fraps works for 29 seconds... I dont know if its really messed up quality or something, but it looks fine enough for me. |
