I got me an army surplus flak jacket today for 8 bucks.

Dunno much about armour, so I'll just say what it says on the inside back:

Small (fits a bit tight, but surprisingly its not too bad)
Chest: From 33 to 37 in.
Stock No. (Blacked out, can't read it right now)
NATO Size: 7080/8494
Body Armor, Fragmentation Protective Vest,
Ground Troops
DLA100-82-C-0979
Louis "J" Sportswear Inc.

Unfortunately it doesn't have the "Use and Care" booklet, but I'm gonna go back to that guy's house tomorrow and see if he has it somewhere.

Also I got a military belt with 4 clips on back, a pocket and 3 shell holders on one side and 7 shell holders on the other. And another helmet, this one being one of those white civilian defense helmets.

Now, a pic of Gas Mask Guy Xav and his Amazing Flak Jacket and Awesome Belt:

Just look around at odd places. I'm always on the lookout for things like these, just gotta have an eye for them I guess.

His headgear makes him look like Shep from HalfLife: Opposing Force.

No, not an MP5 or MP7. Maybe a M16 or M4A1?

Or are those illegal for civilians to own?

Since when are laws an obstacle for owning guns? Doesn't stop my dad.

Does your dad have a M4A1? I was just wondering if there were any requirements. I'm not talking about age.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! I'd hold off such public talk like that, Bjossi.

Anyways, I'm not into collecting guns, I'll leave that to people that are interested in them. ;)

If he did, that would most likely do you no good. He lives in Iceland, you probably don't, and considering the wildly varying differences in gun laws from state to state in the U.S., you probably won't find out much info from Bjossi alone. ;)

I know that 9mm pistol and .357 Magnum are illegal here.

Isn't the M4A1 a tank?

No its a carbine, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M4_carbine

According to the Pennsylvania Gun Laws I can legally own an Assault rifle without having to register it but I cant go out and buy one myself since I'm 16. Kinda interesting but I don't think im going to goto a yard sale and see someone selling an AK would be cool though.

cool stuff, Flak jackets only block shrapnel i think...... so dont get shot :d

Author:  Captain Xavious [ Mon Sep 03, 2007 1:32 pm ]
Post subject:  Why I love yard sales.

Yeah, flak jackets only are made to stop shrapnel and the like, but I'd much rather have this on if I get shot than without it. ;)

depends on if you want the bullet to get stuck inside you or go right through you lol

Author:  Captain Xavious [ Mon Sep 03, 2007 1:45 pm ]
Post subject:  Why I love yard sales.

Depends on the power of the shot. Smaller rounds probably would be slowed down so much by it that it'd not go deep into me, keeping me vitals safe. Larger rounds on the other hand, don't wanna get shot by those. Then again, not too crazy about the idea of getting shot in the first place. ;)

depends on the distance between you and the gun being fired, the velocity of the projectile..... j/k :)
yeah i know what you mean.

Have we even asked the question of if flak jackets slow down bullets at all?

Author:  James [ Mon Sep 03, 2007 3:56 pm ]
Post subject:  Why I love yard sales.

im sure it does, even if its barely noticeable at all.

Author:  Bjossi [ Mon Sep 03, 2007 3:58 pm ]
Post subject:  Why I love yard sales.

It always does, but I doubt it does to a noticable degree. The bullet would fly through him with or without the jacket I'd say.

I'd say you are wrong there.

Shrapnel is about the same as a bullet, only less uniform and at a lower velocity.

If this thing right is capable of stopping these flying shards of metal, don't you think it'd slow down lower velocity projectiles like shot from shotguns and smaller hand guns quite noticeably?

I'm looking up info right now to back this up. But right now, I know that this can stop bird shot from a 12 gauge.

Also, from the look of things this is a Kevlar vest, which has properties to slow down bullets considerably.
