Hi ya all, Thanks for all the support so far everyone here has given to the Runestorm team. I would just like to take a moment to fill you all in on some info about Runestorm
"Runestorm" consists of 2 brothers, namely Nolan and Arn. They are 21 and 19 respectively. There is a younger brother who does help out, (Logan) and most of the screenshots you see of some-one getting splattered, he is the one getting splattered
There is also an "older" brother (me, aka cyberax) who is helping out with this website etc. We all stay on the east coast of South Africa, the "boys" in Howick, and myself in the Richards Bay area. Runestorm, is the development team for a very nice game (currently named ShadowMoon), but it has taken so long to make, I convinced them to release some of it as a "mod" to see what the communities response is to their work...well, so far the community has given them such a boost, that they are very hard at work on the rest
Funding is a problem (isn't it always?), so we will be incorporating a "donations" feature on the website soon. We have had some problems with this, because South Africa is not on everyone's favourite list of being able to "get the money in our accounts"! but we're working on it (although if there are any suggestions, please let us know). Website activites is a bit slow...the team is on dial-up modem, and phone costs here in sunny South Africa are quite expensive, so news and updates is slow, but it is being watched
The "boys" have also been coding in game mods for quite some time, although this is the first time, it has been released to the "public", and I think their work speaks for itself. Anyway, now you know a bit more about us
Thanks |

Yep, isn´t it great that transfer rate has no connection with the computer spec? Unless the processor doesn´t have enough bandwith to cope with the transfer amount per sec. You´d need a slow CPU for that to occur.
Btw, I never would have guessed you were four brothers in Africa. That is almost as unexpected as if you had a secret work place in Area 52. ![]() Post edited by: bjossi, at: 2006/02/27 21:43 |

Africa also causes us to have problems with the timezone, that's why replies are sometimes much later (we are aprox 6+ hrs ahead of USA)...we are normaly fast asleep when you guys are having fun
Dial-up is a problem...you should see what needs to be done when we have to upload the mod files
BUT, Africa is not for sissy's , makes life fun

Actually there's plenty of talent around down here, it's just not connected to the rest of the world that well, so you don't get to know about it. Although the South African team keeps getting their buts wipped in CS:S at international competions

Well actually, ShadowMoon was an old stategy project we WERE working on, but we came up with a new universe and now our focus is on Project Archon. Just about everything in BW is based on the Archon universe.
Yeah, it is always funny when you say to people "I am a game developer or I make mods or I am a programmer" and they give you a blank stare before coming back with "but have you written your exams?" It's not all that dark, really. Its actually glaring bright and scorching hot! Though, we still lurk in the shadows...

I think Africa is on the south face of the planet so it should be hot there. I live on the opposite face, and currectly it´s around 5°C. Not bad for a country called Iceland.

You guys are lucky to have hot atmosphere around you, but usually when you get what you envy, you start to regret ever wanting that particular thing.
Btw, do you have a release day for 1.6? And will there be both a patch and full ZIP? So us with 1.5 can update while new users can grab the full version? |

![]() Yes, it is nice to have bright sunny days, but when it gets to around 42°C , which it does on most days of the week where I'm staying, one gets tired of the heat and longs for some of that Iceland... BUT, our winters are awesome, no jerserys or jackets required, just short sleeve t-shirts. Altough for about 3 weeks during our winter, it does get a bit nippy, just enough for a windbreaker type of jacket. |

42°C!? That is not far from being dangerous heat. hmy:
You guys really should visit the north, you´re gonna love it!
Cold winters (~5°C) and average summers (~20°C). Which is kind of ideal if you want balance throughout the year. |

yeah.. it gets kinda hot:) as for the 1.6 patch.. we are planning a code release very soon, which we can upload from home, and very possibly follow it up with the full 80mb version in .umod and .zip later on, which will probably include some improved sounds.. in fact the sounds i'm working on now, as some people say they need more bass:dry: you tell me.. |

so am i screwed with the whole graphics problem? no one should have to play ut2004 on the LOWEST quality to get DECENT game play
is there any way to make a BW zip that has a more compresses texture look or something like that??????/ |

Not neccesarily bass, they need to make you feel like you are using a powerful weapon. If you guys have heard the sound from the Blaster/Nailgun in Quake 4 you will know what I mean, not much bass, but powerful sound. But I doubt you got computers to run the newer games, it´s a shame. Anyway, will you release a list of bugs that were fixed and what was added? That´d be great.

ok.. we dont have quake 4 or doom3 yet so we cant hear that stuff yet:( the sounds are sounding cool though, the m50 now feels like it firesB) as for the detail:dry: we are thinking of decreasing the texture sizes for a future release.. what are the specs for your PC? |
