Question: Are the executions all muddled up graphically so you can't exactly see what your character's doing? I heard they had to do that to avoid an AO rating. Also they had to remove an execution where you rip a guy's balls off or something. I can see that getting an AO rating. EDIT: Which version are you referring to? PS2, PSP, or Wii? |

Excuse me if I sound like some sort of anti-video game extremist, but this game is not something that should be made. The object of the game is to, well, execute people, and incentive is given to make your executions more violent and the murdering of innocents is encouraged. Call me what you want, but I can not stand the fact that people are gaining money from a game that actually encourages you to brutally murder innocent people. There are some things that just shouldn't be done, and this, I feel, is one of them. That's all I'm gonna say about this game. |

This is one of the games where I have to say: This is just Rockstar TRYING to piss off people. THe game really isn't a game, it's just a brutal piece of **** that was designed to infuriate the mass people while Rockstar just laughs its ass off as they make money on theidiots who buy this game. Rockstar should stick to GTA, but making it as it was meant at first: fun freeroaming glory with the ability to be a good guy or bad guy (like in SA where you could just kill the cops and innocents, or kill the drug dealers.... it pays more to be good). |

I agree. It is like Rockstar decided to make Manhunt right after Jack Thompson's complaints. |

Well then let Rockstar make bloody, violent and distasteful games just to displease Jack Thompson. I could personally care less. |

The game takes place in an asylum for the criminally insane. Plus, the more brutal you are, the more negative your ending. Avoiding combat and killing less brutally gives you a more positive ending, apparently. And in the first game, all of your enemies were evil crazy gang members paid to do the same to you, so they're pretty much fair game as far as I'm concerned. |

Oh yes, they will get their hands on this. 18+ or not. Is that the fault of the game? Should alcohol, tobacco, and porn not be allowed to exist because of the existence of under-aged persons? Lord knows such vices are not exactly difficult to obtain. Video games are considered at once children's toys and "murder simulators". Ignorant parents continue to buy GTA and the like for young children, disregarding the ratings system and any objection and warnings the cashier/sales associate might (and should) make. And they do card you for M-rated sales. It's happened to me a number of times, though I can't say if it's widely practiced or not. Plus, where on Earth did people here get the impression that the game encourages anyone to go out and brutally murder innocent people? Has anyone here complaining done any research on the game at all, or are we all just basing everything on what we think the game is about? |

I did my research on wikipedia, so it may be biased or inaccurate, but I did do at least some sort of research, as I don't like to put forth purely ignorant opinions. Regardless of how credible my information is, my opinion still stands that there are just some lines that shouldn't be crossed in the entertainment business. |

i tried it once. I hated it. I mean, sure i don't like JMT, but if there is one comapny i would have jack attack Rockstar, just plainly for the amount of violence in these type of games |

I did my research with the same wikipedia article, actually. Nowhere there does it imply that the game glorifies killing innocent people. Looking at some YouTube videos, I really don't see what the big deal is. Gameplay consists of you hiding in shadows and sneaking up behind people Splinter Cell-style, putting your reticle on a guy and waiting for your desired gore level, pushing a button or waving the Wiimote in some way, and then watching a cutscene of your killing (which admittedly do get pretty brutal). Even then, the cutscene gets all scrambled up like someone put a magnet to your TV or something. And the gore isn't even all that interesting. Ballistic Weapons has much nastier gore effects. As for things like torture, movies get much more visceral in that regard. One of the executions in the game had you castrating a guy with pliers (ouch), which was removed to avoid an AO rating. Even then, the game got banned in the UK, Germany, and other places. In Hostel: Part II, there's a scene where a guy gets castrated and his genitals thrown to the dogs. That scene fully made it in and the movie got away with an R-rating in the US (with no blurring for torture scenes, obviously), and was released in the UK with an 18 rating. An edited version was even released in Germany with their 18 rating. That's pretty stupid. |

Quote: Wikipedia...
Alternative endings can be depicted which depends on the game play. The more violent the game is played (more environmental executions, red executions and executions of innocents), the more likely you will get the "Alternative Release Therapy" final level with the alternative 'dark' ending. The less violent you play (white executions plus avoiding confrontation when possible) will result in a "Cemetery" final level with a more positive ending. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting alternate endings, but I usually associate them as some sort of bonus. And Hostel, at least from what I hear, and what you just said, falls under the same category as Manhunt to me. My biggest concern, really, is what kind of person honestly likes them? |

Apparently, acting like a psychotic mass-murderer who enjoys amateur surgery nets you a higher score at the end with darker, gloomier ending. Alternatively, being the nice guy and avoiding conflicts, going for the least messy kills, and sparing innocents will get you a more positive ending. Take from that what you will. As to your question, who knows? What magical properties of poop makes scat fetishists all hot and bothered? Why do furries pop boners at the sight of sexualized anthropomorphic animals? How can anyone find anything on MTV genuinely entertaining? Why do some of the worst movies in history get cult followings? |

I'd like to continue further discussion of this, but this site is not the place for my thoughts of the matter. (Further discussion of such ethics and content in media should be discussed carefully too.) Perhaps I'll take my thoughts and put them in essay form... might be a good way to get extra credit in my Sociology class too. |

Kaboodles im not condemning the game, adults like to play games too. But I speak the truth, Adult content attracts more prepubescent primary school kids than it attracts adults. The love gore, they love swearing, they love looking at boobies and cleavages because it makes them feel more adult and "mature" than they really are. So Manhunt 2 will probably make a few christmas lists What this will mean for them and the Manhunt series, well...I guess im just a bit concerned But thats another topic. |

I'm not really condemning the game either, its just that I'm concerned and a bit worried who the target audience is and what audience truly is the one playing it. But I do feel that this is bordering on the line of what should be made commercial and what shouldn't. My opinion on this game has adjusted slightly, though I still never would play this game. |

heres the way i see it...we need games like this. reason number one, to piss off jack asses like Jack Thompson and get them distracted from the games we much more love. to alleviate said stress by pretending the characters we are brutally murdering are jack. and well don't forget people had the same reaction about GTA, how you kill innocents and cops...I'm aiming for a policing career and guess what, i love those games to death. That and I quite possibly have the worst roommate ever...he has a bad habit of just generally being an asshat(if you really want the details you can pm me)...this way I get to strangle some polygonal rendered creation rather than him...keeps me out of jail and keeps him alive, game developers get their money...everyone is happy except for Jack and that fictional character also concerning the kiddies buying manhunt...well shit folks thats what the rating system is for, and that's why stores stick to it now, if mommy and daddy decide to buy Timmy bad games then it's their fault. Back when I used to work at Zeller's I used to actually tell parents that I didn't like selling GTA to them for their 10 year old kid(come to think of it that's probably why I don't work there anymore). In short...It's up to the parents and the consumers to decide what they want in their homes, ESRB and the game developers are doing their job just fine, retailers are starting to catch on as well, I know the EB Games stores in Canada refuse sales of M rated games unless you prove you are of age...I've snickered so many times at those kids. |

I have to admit that I like the presence of Rockstar as a Jack-magnet, since I don't give shit about their games. All that matters is that he leaves my favorites alone.

You are preaching to the chior. I lost count how many times I have said these exact same words to other people. But it seems parents listen to their kids rather than the intellectuals. |
