I think I might find myself joining him in the future. I could use a good ass-kicking, US military-style.

I'm not sure if any of my family are in the military anymore. I have a cousin who had a baby so she's not military anymore. She used to be Air Force.

Poor bastards... I used to think it was a good idea to join an army, but it is rare that the government in charge of you is actually fighting for something hounorable. The good hounorable soldiers shouldn't just be wasted like that.
Many good people think they are fighting for freedom. If only their leaders cared...

We don't have rememberance day here (we might have something similar, but it changes everyday, so who knows), but there are lots of good characters worth remembering, who had good intentions...

Oh, I'm not joining for freedom or justice or any nonsense like that. I want to join because if I make it out alive, (and I probably will), I will come out a better man. Barring any sever physical/mental scarring that might result, of course.

It's the training that I need. I've got a serious lack of discipline and maturity and stuff, and I don't think my parents can do any real good in that regard at this point. I need professional help. I need help from an institution famous for turning little wimpy boys like me into big, strong, manly men. Plus, I'll be making a little money to pay for college and stuff.

Of course, if anyone has any better ideas, I would very much love to hear them.

I personally honor the soldiers and veterans. I honor those serving, but not the war itself.

If this was a WW2 situation you better believe it would be considered honorable. Thats when war was really war and not a battle of "Shoot and run". Darned Guerilla Warfare.

Youth support groups come to mind, usually there is one for every campus and they try to help you get involved in good company again. Just a thought.

As for Rememberance, we have ANZAC day here. There are plenty of memorial services around for the serious ownage that took place in Gallipolli. Almost every town has a war memorial.

i think you need a better look at reality, the army isnt some device that will transform you into a better person. If your in the infantry you'll be lucky to make it out alive, no telling if that stray bullet will hit you or not.

war is not a video game

I got the day off for Vet's Day :D.

I seriously oppose joining the army. Even though it's a honourable thing to do, and you pick up discipline, mental and physical scars come at drastic scales. Or so I believe.

I think that the hardest thing for soldiers to bear is not the bullets, but watching their comrades die before them. Then if they're sort of unstable, they'll think it's their fault and BAM! another life is ruined.

Again, it's my opinion, so join if you like. There are many positive sides of joining the army as well.
