Post subject:  I put a model into UT3

I am starting a mod for UT3, and to sum it up it is a:

Realistic Futuristic Ground and Space Warfare

Realistic: Recoil, damage, speed, and of that general type. Your armor can take a few hits, but you will recieve area specific damage. There will also be three damage types: Light heals over time, Medium doesn't heal on its own; must be administered by a medic, and Heavy cannot be healed or fixed, all specific on what body part you hit.
Futuristic: Space ships, lasers, space colonization, the weapons and enviroments will reflect it being in the future. The weapons will be of a futurisic nature, and you will see toys such as infantry jumpjets, oxygen domes, and gravity stabilizers. Each vehicle will have many different parts you can knock off, disabling certain abilities (such as knocking off the rudder of a starship will disable its ability to turn)
Ground and Space: Fight on the ground, or in space, with advanced player controls to make space combat feel as it if actually is zero gravity instead of just an empty area where there is still an up and down). Each enviroment will be unique, with underground bunkers, bombed out urban areas, or the asteroid belt.
Warfare: Two or more (thats right, more) sides fighting to either exhaust their forces or complete an objective. A current map concept includes a Space station that side A has to defend, side B neutralizing their life support and warp core, and side C blowing up the entire station. Each side has its own objectives, and each side is on its own (as in A v B v C, not A v B&C)

Well enough on the mod, here is the model I put into UT3, the only thing textured in a way is the glowing purple part:

You now have to use materials for your textures, it wont allow you to put a texture directly on something (however you could just add the texture to the material). The glowing purple part is just an emissive color, it took me little to do that.

cool....
are you going to recruit a team? i doubt you will be able to accomplish that all on your own. I might be able to help with a weapon model here and there.....

im confused.....
you cant plop a texture onto a model now and slop it into UT3? A matarial is.... just the model, its not like a texture.

Well I don't want to recruit a team, just to get bored later. I will recruit a team when I have alot done on my own, to show I am serious.

And the material is... its like having the texture (diffuse map), a normal map, and specular. In UT2004, you could directly plop down a texture without any effects, but now you have to create one of these materials.

hmm.....
cool.

When UT3 comes to mac, i plan to attempt at modding(that is if it does come with a mac editor, from what i hear they are porting it to mac or something).
