UT3DOM: The (Unofficially) Official UT3 Domination Mod

This is a seriously cool mod thats being made for UT3. What it is is bringing Domination to UT3, but its bringing Classic Domination, Double Domination and Quad Domination, professionals maps will be made (one of the mappers is CyMek (an amazing mapper)) along with a handful of mutators to change the feel of it from UT feel, UT2kx feel or a UT3 feel.

There's a possibility that UT3DOM will merge with OverLord's CTF4 & TDM4 mod so as for both to do less coding on the 4 team part.

If you have UT3, and you loved Domination, your sure to like this mod when it gets its first public release sometime in March of 2008.

So it has come to 3rd party support for UT3's lost gametypes... Hopefully there won't be any incompatibilities with other mods and muts (I hated how TAM is clunky with BW...).

Isn't DOM basically king of the hill?

It would be great if we could have some kind of king of the hill gametype that works in all maps. You could just generate a "hill" area closest to the center of the map (one of the pathnodes, probably). It could even work like Halo's King of the Hill gametype, where it can change location every few seconds.

That sound like a very good idea, but for Double Dom and Quad Dom, there has to be some comfortable distance between control points: too far, then it would be a long hike and the opposing team/s are likely to steal your previously captured zones. Too close, then it's like defending the same piece of land, which would be too convenient.

A random control point generator would need to have a complex algorithm that measures the size of the entire map and sets up multiple control zones accordingly.

I'll defiantly keep you updated. And here's an update, our team leader RoninMasta will son have a new videocard sometime this month and when he does, he'll start map production (I'm sure CyMek is already working on stuff) and using Kimset to get things rolling.

Also, its going to be fully compatible with the PS3.

Yeah, but remember that Quad Dominatin is Domination with 4 teams not 2. I don't have the full details but suffice to say it'll be close.

A Nifty feature to look into adding would be a "Content Editor" similar to the one in Gem Feeder for UT2k4. This is a game type that allows players to go around any map (single player or multi) and drop objects for that game type. The ability to do somwthing like that with dominaion pads would greatly increase the DOM maps in circulation, since you average layman could do it.

It followed the control point formula but was somewhat different since there were 3 points to control at all times and you could not really control a single point, you had to keep moving between all three.

The idea of King of the Hill is to secure a specific point. (Although it was possible to do this in domination if you had enough team members)

I would love to see the original domination return.

Could always have multiple hills.

There was another Halo gametype called Territories that had specific areas that you needed to capture, which increased your team's "capture time". Whichever team reaches the set capture time first wins.

Yes, the itemizer theme is the main idea, but applicable to objectives, such as control nodes, flag bases, etc. However, I don't know if path nodes could be added that way. The bots seemed to know what to do after using the gem feeder content editor, by there is a possibility that you wouldn't need path support at the objective because the nearby nodes would get a bot close enough to figure it out.

Alright another Update i guess.

So, if you didn't know, I'm Project Leader (With RoninMasta and MadSniper) and Senior (makes me sound old) Lead tester. So yeah, i've rised up!


To more important news.

Firstly UT3DOM has its own forums now, so it you want to drop by and give maps you want to be remade or just wanna talk drop us a line here at our UT3DOM Forum

Next, Just to update, we're well into production, and have an excellent coder/ Texture artist named Snake who's done an amazing job with coding in Domination into UT3.

Here's a video of Domination in Action (i'll add it later)

We got Domination working and the code is about 98% done, and Double Domination is about 80% done.

Yep, also we NEED MAPPERS!

Not many here seem to actually have UT3, makes things a bit difficult to try out. :p

I'm working through the video tutorials right now. I went through the Maya PLE tutorials - until I realized I could no longer port the meshes over because the latest patch wouldn't work with the current version of Maya. So, as of now, I am a casual mapper who uses stock materials/meshes, aside from things I construct with brushes and textures generated in the editor. Anything I can do?
