I got bored last Sunday, so I spend about 3 hours making up a gun model in UEd (since I have no modeler, and I like how UEd runs for my preference, and I can use UEd pretty well). I call it the XR12, and... I think it's supposed to be an elephant gun with a pretty weird cocking mechanism. You pull a lever down, then back and forth then back up. And... then you go and twist another lever to push in a new bullet. It's got about 1400 polys using UEd, so it's probably only about 800 or so in a real modeler. Here's some screens in UEd:

the gun is a decent start for a beginner model, kind of like the rifle shape. the texture(skin) looks like barf though.... (practice lol) why would the poly count change in a normal model program? |

the texture(skin) looks like barf though.... (practice lol) why would the poly count change in a normal model program? I hope you didn't think that was the skin I made, lol! Those are like 7 different placeholder textures I used so I could see what the heck I was doing in UEd! BTW, UEd does crappy triangle optimization, so a modeler program would do a lot better in that aspect. I'll make my own textures at some point, but not until I get the main design more finalized. |

can't say i agree with your choice in modeller but it's a good start to a gun..
you can get your hands on a free program like Blender, which is very reasonable

I knew UEd's not great for modeling, but it was the best I had. I'll try out Blender sometime, but I still like how I already know UEd. It does work for crappier modelling, like a bunker or CNC3 style foxhole. |

i recommend Wings 3d, its simple and easy to use. Blender is for more advanced 3dmodelling and requires a lot more skill and practice. |
