Post subject:	So i bought UT3 for my PS3
So besides the fact that i need a new HDMI cable that doesnt suck......... I started up UT3, one of the main things i noticed was that the game wants to render every thing right when you start the game(why cant it render the game while its loading....?). So after a second of seeing a bunch of unrendered stuff the game starts. I started with campaign mode, i gotta say... it kind of sucks. I would rather play online or even instant action, i mean damn. So i would play online but for some reason i cant connect to ANY server, my dad says hes going to try disabling is proxy and firewall or something. I've noticed that the online play seems to be UT3's main feature, as well as mods/user content etc. Right now i'm left playing instant action..... So UT3 is a fantastic looking game on my PS3 with my HDTV, i think my hdmi cables are sucking things up a bit(my dads worked a lot better). The game is fun and did what UT2004 couldnt, but some of the stuff kind of sucks bad. the fake death was cool and stuff but i doubt i'll use it much, the jumping.... damn damn damn its gay as shit. You jump like 3in and then maybe another 3in on your double jump. i mean what the hell is that? you cant get up any ledges that are a little under your size or a little taller, thats crazy. the hover board..... being kind of a skateboarder i was pretty dissapointed, you move slower than an old man with a cane and when you get shot(while your holding the flag) you can just kiss your ass good by. most the vehicles were a little disappointing, in spped, jumping ability(the manta...), etc. but mostly i cant complain and like the vehicles over all. So i hear the UT3 is supposed to be a fantastic PS3 game(amazing graphics, etc) and that it takes advantage of the PS3's advanced hardware, well thats true. but it doesn't change the fact that sometimes i would rather have a 360 for simplicities sake and maybe a little more variety in games(i am starting to like the 360's online playing system better...). o and i fortgot to mention, the main thing that pissed me off was that..... THERE IS NO DAMN SPLIT SCREEN COOP OR MULTIPLAYER WTF OMG.

Well, UT3 doesn't bring really good things compared to UT2004 It's was rather a bad a surprise, EPIC screw it a bit I must say ! I always loved the way the developped games and now I'm disapointed Well, I'm kind of happy 'cause it means a longer life to UT2004 but it's sad for poeple who bought UT3. Now, I don't know how the PS3 works, but I hope you can install and play mods / patch ! The only thing I found really cool for UT3 was the necris vehicles which are really great I must say. The graphics aren't as promising as EPIC stated, in game it's even sometimes really bad. Worst than everything, EPIC removed a lot of match type (bye bye ASSAULT and so on...) but they added a "deeper" single player story... How unnecessary ! I was planning to buy a new computer for UT3 (right now lack of money) but now, I think my old comp. is still great. Now it's only the begining, as usual, the game live only through the players, let's see how they will make UT3 live ! (And I think EPIC counts on the players community a bit too much this time) As for the PS3, don't be disapointed, it's only nearly a year it exists and yet, the price is still very expensive. But I'm sure great things will happen for the PS3 (especially once the price will be decreased). As usual, the game makers must realize what really is a console before discovering they can do unbelievable things with it.

yeah your right, im gonna keep playing though. Its something new to someone who's been playing ut2004 for...... a few years. yeah you can download updates and content on the ps3, im looking forward to new stuff....

I understand you must be disapointed though I remember paying 50 bucks for games that were totally ***** then I was really angry at myself for buying the game in such a hurry (never did again though). Hopefully UT series has a great community Actually, I can't wait to see what kind of mods they will make using necris vehicles features

UT3 is not on my buying list any time soon, solely because of the price. I'd be buying it just to download and try out mods, because I hate the default weapons with disgust just as much as in UT2 (except the Stinger. When it hits the bargain bins I'll probably grab a copy. Your statement only applies to the PS3 as far as I know. Developing games for it is an extreme pain the ass thanks to that multi-core cell processor. Sony basically dug their own grave by putting in a piece of hardware that the vast majority of programmers have no experience with. It's way ahead of it's time, in other words. The PS3 is a powerful computer still waiting for the opportunity to show it's powers I'd say.

I only got the UT3 Demo but I all things you note here havent come up with me. The vehicles aren't bad at all to me, UT2004 vehicles suck big time, they made it alot better with UT3. Other games may have better vehicles but UT3's arent bad. (only Goliath, its still a brick.) The weapon sounds with most games just sound like toy guns. Sadly UT3 is one of those games. Hoverboards, a funny thing to use. Allows for faster travel for infantry while in quiet area. To make you fall if you get hit is to prevent people from running away with it, that means you got to fight off the enemy. The stunting is great fun, not of any matter to the game itself but fun to mess around with while racing to the battlefield. At least its better then walking across the whole damn battlefield. Little maps, few gametypes or any other stuff, not a problem. Just wait and check for modders and mappers, I'm sure some sort of Assault will pop up one day. The bots are strange... I still dont know if they have the ability to LEARN from what happens or if they just randomly do stuff, but they have improved alot compared to UT2004's bots. If you have a killing spree, they will come look for you I think. I once sat snipering about and a raptor did his best to kill me, not interested in the flag or others at all. Luckely the idiot came too close and I pwnd him with the flak cannon. In my opinion, from the UT3 demo, UT3 is not a bad game and not dissapointing at all if you havent constantly followed what Epic said on forums and such. Its a fun game and probably greater fun over multiplayer. It is sad that they left out several things and added a few crappy but in my eyes, they've improved alot compared to UT2004. Me thinks: UT2004 < UT3.

I have to agree about the weapons. When I played the demo of UT3 I was surprised to see that Epic, just like way too many developers, have not learned their lesson regarding weapon sounds. This can only be explained that the genius that made the sound effects for UT99, got fired before UT2's development was finished. Either that or he lost his hearing.

the thing that pissed me off for ut3 is ITS A GOD DAMN ONLINE GAME EPIC, Its not meant for single player thats what the unreal series was for not unreal tournament. well you can say goodbye to unreal 3 now that unreal tournament 3 is out .

I dont get what you're mad about... UT3 online game? I play good against bots, they''re smart as hell methinks, or just lucky basterds. At least they're better then the UT2k4 ones. I swear I saw him looking for higher ground in a fight. They also stand still sometimes to get a better aim, perfect time for a sniper rifle at such moment. Methinks that UT3 is same with UT2k4 about how much it is for a mutliplayer game.

@Bjossi : Actually I was thinking to the WII as well, it's quite new too and they didn't use yet all the potential of the WII mote, I don't own a WII but I know most players are waiting a lot for Saber combat games. They say the actual games with sabers aren't that great yet. And well, I'm sure the dev. will still find many new way to use the WII mote (I'm sure in japan they will even make sexy/porn games using the WII mote, but unfortunately or fortunately, they will never be exported here, lol They already did it with the nintendo DS !lol ). For the PS3, you're totaly right, I agree with you and I was also thinking to the six-axis. As far as I saw, poeple said the only games using really well the six-axis feature is "Ratchet & Clank" in mini-games, feature mostly forgotten by other games !dodge . @Bulska : Well, actually I didn't pay attention to the sounds. My sound card is quite crapy and I never ask too much with the sounds. Usually I pay more attention to the music, music volume is always at it's maximum (I must say I didn't heard any of the game itself, I just downloaded the mp3 EPIC gave us (said to be from an audio CD ?) and I didn't find them as entertaining as UT2004. For the vehicles I agree with you, they're all great as far as I remember, I was especially impressed by the necris vehicles which are totaly different from other classical games. I didn't really paid attention to the hoverboard since I was familiar with the one from ChaosUT, I didn't found it was something really new. For the mods, gametypes, and so on... I agree but then it's what I said : EPIC rely on community !mistrust But for sure, a lot of game type will appear soon, I already saw somewhere the double domination mod for UT3 though I'm not a big fan of it, it was the begining of adding missing gametypes. Though, community give their time developping those missing gametypes, it's time they could have used to develop something else !mistrust (Like those crazy gametypes that were done at the very begining of UT2004 and helped waiting for better mods to come out... After the patch, I missed the flying Leviathan using the raptor, I was so ROFLMAO to do that) For the bots, I didn't play long enough to see how smart they could be. Personnally, I don't complain about UT2004 bots, it's enough to have some fun once in while !lol Sure I saw some stupid things from them but I don't mind :d (say this 'cause I don't know how long I've been waiting for bots coming to games while I was younger, mainly for Doom 1 & 2 / Heretic 1 & 2 / Hexen 1 & 2 / Duke Nukem 3d / Quake 1 & 2... First time I saw bots in Chaos for Quake 2 then unreal, I was so happy ! !amazed LOL) And well, even if UT3 is good, it's not as promising as it was said it would be. Graphicaly, I was really disapointed to see the difference between real in game with graphical options set to max. and what the screenshots from EPIC looked like before the game was out !sad I was waiting more from the unreal engine 3 with UT3. Now, I'm sure this engine is capable of much better, it was already proved with the unreal engine 2, it can do great things even if quite old now. UT3 > UT2004 ? Yes, of course, but it could have been better if not done in such a ruch (actually UT2004 has already an enourmous community and an even bigger list of maps/mods/mutator which gives it a good advantage compared to UT3 as well as price and computer requirement which is part of the price too for me). I think they've put much more work in the unreal engine 3 than in UT3 itself since they gonna sell it at a really good price to many game companies. The unreal engine 3 is already trying to promote the Ageia Physix cards that is said not to be useful at all ! Wasn't that a great marketing oportunity to make money ?

The market is becoming a little nasty these times, everyone promoting everyone's everything. Money is everything, and that sucks. Ofcourse money is needed to live but keep down on the ads to give more fun to the people (with this I actually mean the internet mostly... all those ads take so long to load...) Anyways, UT3. Unreal3 Engine is really cool, but yeah they could've done so much more with UT3

i am not dissapointed, i wanted a fast paced online fps and thats what i got. but i am having trouble getting to online games...... it could be better, true. but it could be a lot worse.

I guess patch and so on will soon come to fix the problems but if's a problem from you connection, a patch won't do anything You should go on PS3 forums and ask about net play and how to configure the rooter, maybe they could help you. Disabling the firewall and the proxy each time you want to play isn't quite normal. Or maybe you have to add the right port in your virtual server / rooter options (UT2004 was UDP 7778 / 7777), I know I always had a problem with UT2004 to connect on any server, I found the answer on Atari's forum I think. Hope it can helps

well apparently..... its the game thats not allowing me to connect to many of the servers im seeing. i googled the error i was getting and found many other PS3 owners asking why this was occurring and they all said the same thing. the most common answer to why was "the games net code is probably a bit buggy and they will probably release a patch to fix it". I find that if i refresh the servers and then join quickly i can usually get in a server w/o it telling me "ERROR, your connection has been lost". so when i play......... the game has a pretty poor draw distance...... you'll be walking towards something then you'll be like wow the textures just filled in 10ft away from me(thats a bit weird to see). also, the rendering is slow and starts when u play the game or die(so your like wtf, my gun looks like crap. then o it just rendered right before my eyes.) the game plays well, looks good, and is fun to play. i think they need to work on a lot of things like the graphical flaws, lack of jumping/ crouching, melee weaponry, and some other stuff.... i like the warfare mode, i havnt tried it online yet. the deathmatch, instant action is always a blast(i use the "kill slomo" mutator for fun). i dont know what else to say besides that the game is fun

I saw the demo had a heigh problem, viewing height beeing above the model head. (Thus, allowing to exploit the bug) Seems a patch fixed it now ! For the draw distance, yes, it's a feature of UT3 as said earlier, developpers made load shorter and instead drawing textures as you move in the level I'm sure while they have tested it (with horribly powerful pc) it was a good idea (like Dungeon Siege which drawed everything as you were moving, removing all the annoying loading time) but in Online play it's a bit different. But it's a work some modders must be already be thinking to for sure ! At least, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see that kind of update/mod coming. Jumping / crouching / weapons ... luckily work is already on the road, I already saw some basic mutator about it Finally, the WARFARE mode is something I didn't quite really get yet ! Basicaly it's onslaught with some addons (like a kind of sphere ?) but though I read articules about it, I still don't really get it ! Read things about the map changing if you own some nodes Anyway, I think some mappers will make an incredible work with those features. Have you ever tested both maps "reconstruct" on UT2004 from (Rachel) Angel mapper ? Or even Dm-Relativity ? Though we never saw anyone using those feature in other maps, it was things possible with the engine Now that UT3 is here, especially with a gametype like Warfare, I'm in a hurry to see amazing maps using all the power of the engine. Well, don't hesitate to describe things you lived through your online matches if they're worth it

so far i have only been able to join DM matches online. I was playing on one server and i was doing really well, i got an ultra kill then suddenly i was kicked from the server(it said "you have been forcefully removed from the game"). the bastards must've thought i was hacking or something(my guess, just being a sore loser). besides that one game, i have been playing well in DM/TDM. its all good fun, i always get put on the noob team though(the players that im with dont score any kills....).

Wow ... This isn't what I really call an exciting experience I hate poeple who kick other player for no reason, they aren't the stronger in their server so they kick poeple !

well i was playing a Death Match game when i got kicked, and i was winning(next thing i know, im booted from the game). I was playing some TDM games after that, i was on the red team. My team mates were either scoring fairly low or none at all. i was scoring higher than any one else on either team, my team lost about 2 or 3 games in a row...... i dont like sore losers. and after the other team wins......... they say the same damn taunts over and over and over and over(the annoying UT3 taunts in the speak menu).

Yup, it's what I'm telling, it's really sad ! If the player isn't a d**k, isn't annoying everybody, cheating or whatever,... Why kick him ? Yup, sad poeple only see competition and winning, it's one of the reason why I don't play online too often unless I find poeple I can get along with and won't kick me for any stupid reason !
