Any of you guys fans of the original (Kelly, I'm looking at you!)? I was reading an article in a PC gaming magazine today that said they plan for Deus Ex 3 to be done in 2010. Deus Ex is one of my absolute favorite games of all time. I hope DX3 avoids the stumbling that Invisible War had.

Yeah, part two was like a dumbed-down console port. It hard some parts I enjoyed, but it was NOWHERE near the original.

I wonder where the story will go in Deus Ex 3. [Spoilers] I mean at the end of Deux Ex 2 the earth was either controlled by JC, destroyed, governed by the crazed Illuminati, or led by insane templars. :p

I sure hope they make this one as good as the first one, though. :)

On a sidenote, I would never kill Sgt. Kelly in that game. He was in my class at the academy! I always gave him a taser to the back and left him sleeping comfortably on his desk.

If a game is rushed or not depends on the intended content. Making a game like Deus Ex good takes shitloads of time, 2 - 3 years is not.

Not necissarily. When they take too long the graphics, engine etc get dated. The development team changes and the game gets a disjointed feel. And of course it risks becoming "vaporware".

Nothing stops the coders from modifying the engine's features to keep updated. ;)

Engines are hardly ever updated after a game release, U2 was released with the best of that time, as far as I know that is. But during development, when an engine is starting to look dated if the game has been in the making for a long time, the coders could simply add the new fancy features to the engine.

Well, unless DeusEx 3 is PC exclusive, i think we're in for a repeat of that, unfortunately.

The most cost effecitive way of making a cross platform game is making it for the Console first, since it is the bottleneck, and then porting to the PC afterwards, the undeniable result is allways that the PC wersion is not going to be as good as it could be (or if previous versions of the game where PC only, like DeusEx, known features will be cut, if for nothing else, then for the lack of buttons on a controller, invontory systems are usually the first to go).

It's very rare to see a cross platform game that does not suffer from the above.

I'm afraid you're right !sad

Though they can still develop a more rpg oriented feeling than the second.

But sure, if they port it to the consoles, it will be a copy of the 2nd with some new features...

Let's pray and hope for the best !lol

Heh, one of the bonuses of being a nano-augmented agent was that JC could take anybody's soda or candybar without them being able to do anything about it. Tasered or not. :p

They're working on a high-definition texture pack for DX1, and I think some other guys are working on porting the entire DX1 game to the Unreal 2 engine. When one of those is done, I'm going to play through again without killing anyone except Agent Navarre; right by where I have to taser Kelly on the way out of the MJ12 prison.

Did you ever play the Deus Ex multiplayer online?

How are they gonna port it to UE2 without an usage license from Epic? Or do you mean porting the DX1 game as a mod or TC to an already released game like UT2?

I've seen that one, it seems a promising mod but I didn't hear from them for a long time !sad
It's a mod for UT2004, I don't remember the link to their website !sad
I even wonder if it still exist ?

High definition texture pack ? Well, Deus Ex 1 don't look that bad for having to develop a texture pack.
They did it for System Shock 2, but they never finished it totaly !sad

I tried Deus Ex 1 in multiplayer online but I must say it was a big deception !
I was really disapointed to see that it was so limited ! As you kill you get stronger with augmentation and once you get killed, you lose all your bonuses... which is really frustrating !mistrust

Though I enjoyed multiplayer in Deus Ex 1 a lot ! I even entered in a team, it was funfor a while but it was really quickly limited and boring !sad

Why speak in past sense? The texture pack is still being developed.

Yeah, I think the UE2 DX1 was just a mod, I can't seem to find the site now.

I loved the DX multiplayer, the tactics the booby-trapping, hacking etc. I thought it was a lot of fun, even though it was almost impossible to find a server with a decent ping. I was even in a clan back in the day. It had its faults, but then again, it was a completely free expansion added with a patch.
