Alright so I figure I should start off with my PC specs,

CPU: Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz HT
RAM: 1024 Kingston DDR2
Video Card: X1600 pro 512 MB Pci-e
Onboard Sound
OS: Windows Vista Home

Ok recently, or since the SP1 for vista is when I estimate but anyway, I start out with nearly 100 FPS on Killing floor and end up with 20 on all settings about an hour in. This happens with Gmod and Postal 2 as well, start high end very very unplayable low. At first I thought it was my video card, since I overclocked it with ATI tools. But rolling it back to defaults did absolutely nothing. It seems the pc is fresh on restart then crap later. My graphics card is also not running hot *Never above 60 degrees Celsius , I made sure to that*. If ANYONE has any idea on how to help me please do so. :)

Hardware drivers up to date? (video, audio, etc.)
Remember that new OS updates are designed to be best used with the newest software from hardware vendors.

Everything is up to date as far as I can tell. I was just playing GMOD and I had 90 FPS for like 10 minutes then it fell instantly to 10-19. As soon as I could I went straight to task manager to see if there were some unwanted processes, nothing, zip everything that I began with was still there.

Does this happen with 'any' game that you run? I smell overheating here.

To elaborate, those below 60°C might not be accurate. It comes down to where the temp measurements are done.

Yes it happens with every game ive tried so far, Postal 2, Gmod, Killing Floor, UT04..haven't tested any others.

I don't know what to think anymore. My Vista knowledge is very limited, but it seems to me like your computer ain't taking the presence of SP1 very well.

Might sound crazy, but you should consider unInstalling it. Hell, go back to XP, your computer isn't top notch for Vista with only 1 GB of memory.

I agree with Bjossi, check the temps on the motherboard and GPU.

There are quite a few utilities you can use to check them. Check before you start playing, and check again once your FPS has gone down.

I also would not be running Vista on that spec machine. If you want to play games on Vista, I would add at least another 1Gb of RAM and change to at least a Core 2 Duo 1.8+Ghz processor.

Knowing Vista, it could also be disk related, are you using IDE or SATA drives? Vista is disk intensive, and with that amount of ram it could be swapping to disk a lot. and if you disks are slow, then you would have a slowdown.

Vista does have some nice performance monitors as well...take note of your CPU, RAM and disk usage before and after.

Overall, we've had good results with Vista SP1, but it's early days...

What ever you do, don't try the IE 8 Beta...it is so full of trouble it's just not funny...

I cant downgrade because I bought the PC with vista kinda came packaged with it.

Luckily I got my new pc's mobo today so Ill have my new pc built by...the end of the year!

You don't have a XP disc from an older computer? I upgrade very rarely but I still manage to have CDs of Win95, 98SE, ME, and XP.

But the lack of a XP disc makes that a little difficult...

If you can figure it out,go dual boot.It is a bit complex to set up but is really nice to have,unfortunately it sucks up a lot of hard drive space.

It doesn't eat up that much, Vista takes up 14 GBs iirc and XP 2 - 3 GBs. That is 16 - 17 of the available 238 if you decide to buy a dirt cheap 250 GB hard drive.

I seem to have fixed the issue. The solution came with downloading "Uniblue's SpeedUpMyPc", I did some ram recovery and deep ram recovery and as long as the programs running my FPS is constant, even on gmod.

If you want a more permanent solution, you could give Memtest a try. But it takes a long time to complete a scan.

you say it starts out good, and gets slow?

check you log file isnt being hammered! it could be massive... make sure your primary drive has plenty of free space.. you know that paging file really eats!

On this little monitor thingy I have my most used object or entity of my pc is Disk R/W and even just typing this and listening to music its at 99% usage..it fluctuates quite violently.

If you want minimal CPU usage when listening to music, try XMPlay. Specially made to be compact and easy on resources.

And if I may add; it has the best output sound quality I have heard. And I've used players like WinAmp and WMP in the past. Not to mention many available plugins and native ogg vorbis support.
