from what i herd, mirrors edge storyline is about faith, a underground courier delivering messege for some kind if resistince organization want to overthrow the goverment and ther totalitarian, combine like hold on the city.
the local police force are like the combine metropolice
and use surveillance and curfew to keep thier utopion
dystopia (how ironic) "pure" and more sterile then a needle kept on a flame for 10 minutes.

Good looking, but sounds boring. That trailer shows nothing but some person running around, there is absolutely nothing happening there.

Well, the game is about running around and interracting with the environment (actually everything is shown in red) and you can wear only one weapon and if you do, you will be slowed down... so your main weapon will be hands and kicks.

I've been following that game that sounds quite interesting... Quite refreshing but maybe a bit too linear though :( Seems it will mainly be a skill / puzzle game.

I do like the scale of the city though. It was frightening to look down through the character's eyes. If I learn more about this game, then perhaps I will get more positive things to look forward to.

Yes, you should see more video of it and search for more info to get interested into it !lol
It's quite an unusual game, and I think most poeple already dreamed of jumping from roof to roof,
it's what this game is mostly about I think :d

I hope not. For a price of a full game, I expect gameplay that won't get old within an hour. Maybe wikipedia can help out with the info part.

Actually the game seems quite repetitive yes... !mistrust

that games main character doesnt look very good.

I think you interact with your environment like 10 times better in Crysis and Farcry 2

Yes there will be PC version.

I liked how camera move in this game, and the whole feeling of jumping on the skyscrapers roofs.
Falling down from them would be kickass.

Its rather experimental, with the realistic movement. It's well made in the part of running and jumping and such, its pretty realistic.

The story line is fine for me. And I don't know if it's going to be lineair, maybe you can take on other routes and maybe there's a free roam mode. (which would rock) Although I doubt it.

I hope there's going to be stealth in this game, the cool movement stuff can provide fun stealth.

Besides, isn't Half Life quite lineair? They did however made lots of variation in HL with vehicles, new enemies and new weapons.

HalfLife 1 & 2 are the more linear games I have played. Then again most games are linear, it is hard to create open ended gameplay without making the game far too confusing.

games being linear isnt bad. it is just how they have been done for a very long time... which leads to us wanting something new.

i hope mirrors edge has a freeroam though, as it would be very good. judging from the pics and vid it seems like a cooler version of spiderman. freeroam would work if you had some sort of pda and were asked to go and do different jobs randomly. that would be cool.

That would basically be GTA on the rooftops. This game is supposed to do something unique, or at least something not done very often.

Let's hope it will be something like GTA or Far Cry then.

I loved to take different road in Far Cry, this can change totaly change the game experience.
Though there's still moments where it's quite linear.

Hope for something like that in Mirror's Edge

Screw GTA, i cant stand games like that.....
sorry, just blah.

I like games that are good and aren't based off other "popular games".

By "like GTA" we were meaning an open world where you can travel as you wish without having a linear path which will really put the game in a puzzle game like. (Yes, I've seen that you will have to think correctly sometimes before using some elements, we'll see if those are only "light" puzzles though)

That would be games like STALKER.

What is STALKER like?

I really don't know a lot of things about that game.
How is the gameplay, the world, ...?

The gameplay is a mix of FPS and RPG, you start out as a rookie but work your way up the respect ladder as the game progresses. You find better and better stuff like armor and guns, but you also encounter more and more dangerous enemies.

The world is open from the start. You can choose to do main missions or put them on hold while doing smaller favors to earn money so you can buy better stuff from traders.

There is no easy way to describe the game without making an essay. You'll just have to buy it and check out yourself.

I don't know if I could like it... Maybe... I'll check a demo first.

But yes, if the world is open, then more like stalker than GTA

If it helps; STALKER is the most atmospheric game I have ever played in my life. When you are alone traveling around an underground, abandoned lab full of mutated creatures, it really immerses you. The game doesn't babysit you even the slightest, the player needs to plan what to take with him in his backpack for the best chance of survival.

That is just one example.

Now that's interesting to hear !amazed

And then there is the paranormal activity to worry about. The game has some really troubling creatures at times, like a guy who steals your mind and leaves the body behind. And ghost creatures that throw loose objects at you like buckets, soda cans, etc.

You'd love the game if you like complex gameplay that requires lots of thinking from the player. System Shock 2 is very comparable to it.

Oooh, Then I'll definitely love it... I loved system shock 2 !lol

Makes me think of Bioschock and that earlier I read that Steven Spielberg was playing Bioshock, loving it and he was stuck in the game, ROFLOL !lol

Author:  Bjossi [ Sat May 17, 2008 2:41 pm ]
Post subject:  Mirror's Edge

Well, Bioshock has the open world, but it follows a linear progression and babysits you the entire way through. System Shock 2 would definitely be a more accurate comparison.

Post subject:  Mirror's Edge

I didn't play to Bioshock, I was just interested in it because it was made by the dev. of System Shock 2.
Didn't knew it was more linear :( sad to hear.

The problem with open world is that sometimes I never do the main quest! lol
For oblivion and morrowind, I never finished the game 'cause I wander everywhere (especially with mods) but I never do the main quest so I can't tell what's the real storyline of those games, lol.

The main quest in STALKER is easily recognizable from the "favors". The main quest doesn't have any time limits, plus you have to do it to gain access to certain areas of the world. For example one area can't be accessed because there is a brain scorcher machine emitting dangerous waves, so you need to obtain a PSI helmet and turn off the machine. That is a main quest objective.
