I have recently purchansed and comepleted the hald life 2 episode pack (have not got hl2 yet) and i checked on steam and it says i have lost coast as well. even though i did not buy it. Will i be able to play it without the origional hl2 game (i am buying soon anyway, just want more half life)

Please no spoilers of half 2 or lost coast please

Lost Coast is just a demo test map or something, i had that before i took windows off my mac. Its one level, then the game is over and your sent back to the main menu.

Hehe. just played it. and finished it. turns out you dont need hl2 to play it. didn't think much of it really. nothing special. especially compared to ep 1 and ep 2. cant comment on hl2 though.

is half life 2 as good as the episodes?

Exactly, its a demo map for when Source's HDR technology had come out.

Loast Coast is a good demo of HDR, from when they introduced the technology.

I find it is a good place to benchmark your system and tweak it for the HL2 games.

Also, if you turn on the commentry, then play it again, go listen to all the commentry...it's actually quite interesting...

Ep1 and Ep2 are a continuation of the HL storyline...so if you haven't played HL2, but you have played EP1 and EP2, you might get a bit bored...or it might fill in the blanks... :p

why purchase the episodes, and not hl2? Why not just buy the Orange Box, you get Portal in it too, which is certainly worth its money.

Half Life 2 itself is 3 days ingame, each Episode is only 1 day ingame, from morning to evening.
I don't know why u would play the episodes before Hl2 itself too... it's like reading the sequal of a book or watch the sequal of a film before watching the first one.

Half Life 2 is a very cool game, from start to finish. It is kept with alot of variety in maps, weapons, enemies, vehicles and such. I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you've enjoyed Episode 1 and 2.

i know i know, i saw the episode pack in store and went for it. regret it now but i might not have even played half life at all if it wasnt for that. brilliant games though.

also... does that mean that HL2 is 3 times as long as the other games? also... that is a lot of action for one Day!!!

about 6 hours gameplay if you're fast.

But most peopl mess around and play it for 10 to 12 hours long (I did... even after all enemies were gone, I kept messing with physics)

And always keep a look out for secrets! The lamba sign sprayed on walls indicate secrets, but you need to keep your eye open and a clear mind for the puzzles :D

HL2 on the first will with no help will likely take anywhere from 8 to 12 hours, then you'll get down to a level of doing it in 6 or 7.

Ya, the lamba sign is great for extra ammo and health. Though watch out for the ones in Ravenholm, since a zombie is usually near or will attack u once you grab it.

thats the fun part of ravenholm :D

The bad part of ravenholm on hard, is that those fast zombies are TOO DAMN TOUGH. They are fast and can take loads of damage, plus, there are hordes of them.

In the part where u wait for a damn elevator to go up, right after u get the shotgun, hordes of zombies come along. I hate that part. I always blow myself up with the gravity gun and a explosive canister.

Ya, thats why its best to stick to the shotgun your given.

And only use the gravity gun to hit the guys that are outside the room.

My shotgun needs 2 double barrel shots even if I aim for the head.

Once I pressed the button, those spastic monsters have moved their head somewhere else.
Takes such damn time to reload every 1.5 zombie.

almost a spoiler!!!! at least give me a warning beforehand!

anyway, found a cool mod called metastasis for episode 1! It is retail quality and very fun, took the maker about 2.5 years.
