I played this TC when it came out, i like it but it made my UT2k4 game load time take at least 2 minutes. Yes it a very good TC but i'd have rather like to have seen it as a mut minus the maps and players and stuff, only the weapons and the changed speeds etc would be in that mut, but they didn't do that so i don't play it. |

my ut2004 loads in like 20 sec with this TC, sure all the stuff u install over time builds up but its not just UTr. throw the stuff away you dont use and load times will be quicker |

My load times are usually not more than 8 - 10 seconds, but I do have a superfast memory and processor, and a 7200 RPM hard drive. |

It is his fault if he wants to have his UT2004 directory insanely big in filesizes. It is unescapable that the game gets slower as there is more data to be loaded. |

Yep is is totally my fault i love maps!
Though now that its summer i'm going on a get rid of maps that i don't like spree. Lots of 30 minute testing of maps. Plus that also means getting rid of tons of dumb mutators like Remote Strike and team radar which i've never used, than theirs all my skins... got to get rid of at least half of those. I'm thinking that by the time i'm finished i'll will have lost at least 3 to 5 gigs of data from UT2k4.

I'd just reInstall the game and then install the mods and maps you want back into the game and leave the others alone. But that is only possible if you keep the ZIP archives of mods and maps. |

yeah but have a ton of betas and alphas of mods that have to be installed in the correct order (which are mostly the things i'm getting rid of) Plus my UT2k4 has never uninstalled right so i'd rather just keep it like it is and delete files from both the UT2k4 folder and my external Harddrive (which i'll use to find every file for that mut or map) . it'll be easy... accaulty come to think of it this is gonna be a pain in the arse. Darnit |

That's odd, do you mean the maker of a particular mod releases a patch that needs to be applied to update that particular mod? Usually they just release new version that you can simply overwrite the old version with. |

yeah but i have a few mods/muts which were and are in beta stages where the author makes one release than just keeps making patches but never complies them all together for a full release. And thats why i'm gonna get rid of soo many mods! |

It isn't only the filesize that creates the extra load times, deleting mods and maps shortens the list of custom classes and map lists which will make preload quicker. So it ain't the size that matters, it's how you use it.

also custom gametypes cause slow loading when loading up instant action. |

No, that's the mutators and maps at work. Gametype is just like a mutator, an entry in the loadup process. There are much more mutators than gametypes in 99.9% of people's installations. |

Like mine
I think i might just unistall my UT2004 than reinstall it with a lot less maps (no promises ) and a lot fewer muts (i can promise that), could take around an hour.

That is a default time it takes for me to download 0.5 Gb files if I get the default transfer rate of 400 Kbps. Too bad it almost never goes that fast on foreign servers...

Yeah, I only get 100 Kbps by default, sometimes 200 if there isn't much traffic on my ISP. |

Mine varies roughly between 600 kbps and 1.5 mbps, so bring on the big mods (and bonus packs with looots of guns)!

It'd still take you quite a while to download very big files, 10 - 15 minutes. I hate waiting that long.

no way in hell i can get my hands on that!! rant: its cheaper and faster to fly to hong kong, download 100 GBs' and fly back here than it is to download that same amount from here (on broadband 1 megabit)... now that SUCKS) *end rant* |

what do you mean by cheaper? |

To download 100 Gbs with dialup will get your phonebill high enough that it'd be cheaper to build a starship and fly to Andromeda and back. |
