So, I'm starting to get into blender. Went through some of the basic tuts: interface, die, snowman scene, dolphin. Granted, there's still a lot more I would need to learn to be efficient at making low-polygon stuff for UT3, but I was looking around to see if I could find something that would allow me to export a file from blender that could be imported into UT2004 and/or UT3. I found two possible solutions, which seem to be Python scripts for exporting a .ase file. One of these scripts came with a readme file that wrongly assumes I know how to install and use the scripts/mods. So, has anybody been able to export a mesh from Blender that could be imported into UT2004 or UT3?

Just for fun, here is a pic of my latest tut monstrosity. I think the snout is a bit too narrow, though. However, I accidentally added a bit of detail that the tut maker didn't. Instead of the tail just flattening out into the back fiun, I somehow got the part of the tail connecting to the back fin to remain tubular, which seems to be a bit more realistic, judging by some pictures I've seen. I wonder if there is some easy way to get the shape pf the fins to kinda flow into body so that there is no seam...

And I did some auto-detailing thing and went a little crazy on the poly-count (check out the red circle and blue box at upper mid of screen.

Edit: Hey, I'm a Warlord, now. Cool, ummmm... BOW DOWN, PETTY MORTAL (-: How the heck did I write so many posts?

no, open wings3d and tell me this again. lol
Theres so much cluttering the interface in blender. im sure its organized(obviously), but when i look at it... my head just wants to explode.

Installed Wing3d. Looks pretty good. I did a quick search for how it compares with Blender and it seems to be apples and oranges. Too bad there is no simple way to export meshes for UT from Wing3d, either. Anyone know of any way to export meshes from any free 3d modeling program?

There is a export script for Blender to UT2004/UT3. Lemme find it.

Here it is.

I believe its also submitted to the MSU contest, so you might find a newer version if you look around.

By the way, I'm glad to see another person getting into modeling!

Got the file and paged through the readme, Xav, but how do I install it? I see a .py file... Python script? Do I have to compile it? Is there some sort of interface in Blender that lets me use the mod/plugin? You're talking to a complete newbie, here. Thanks.

Also, I noticed that 3dWing can export many file types that can be imported into Blender. If this whole .ase blender export thing works, then perhaps you could use it as a stepping stone to export your 3dWing models, James?

Btw Xav you have experience in Blender right ?
In Blender you can join objects together, is there a way to separate them ?

Um, I think that one is just installed by putting it in the scripts folder of the .blender folder. Then you open up the python menu and you can A. refresh the scripts and hope it shows up in the export menu (I think I got that version and it seemed to show up good) or B. just open the script with the python editor in Blender and run it when you want to use it. I believe most plugins should work like that, but if that won't work for te various plugins, I haven't a clue how to get them working.

Ah, thanks! I was wondering the same thing myself. :P

By the way, do we got anyone here that knows rigging in Blender? I got the bones in place for the BW hands but I don't know how to bind the bones to the mesh, or anything else past that.
