I think of you guys as my online family and i would like your opinion on this thing i came up with, to me it makes a whole load of sense but i wanna know what you guys think. Right here goes. Knowledge is reinforced Belief, Belief is reinforced Hope and hope is the belief that our knowledge is correct. 
Came up with that while i was cooking pasta. |

Hope does not necessarily imply that we believe our knowledge is relevant. |

Well, you sure as hell HOPE your knowledge is right! Some things seem to be fabrications, yet are right, and then there's the vice versa!! |

Well, are we talking about philosophical interpretations or what the dictionary says? Since we're talking about opinions, I guess I won't bring Webster into this. I'd say you're on the right track about knowledge, but I would not entirely agree. For example in elementary school, I came to the knowledge that gravity is a force that pulls all things down. In high school, I came to the knowledge that gravity is a force that is implicit of mass that pulls all bodies of mass towards every other body of mass. In college, I came to the knowledge that gravity is the result of a mass' displacement of the timespace continuum. All theories tell me that jumping off a cliff is a bad idea, but the details behind it are different. So, if you say that knowledge is reinforce belief, then you imply that belief is unfounded. If belief is the reinforcement of hope and belief is unfounded, then hope is a whim with no substance (I wish pigs could fly). Your last bit is just plain funny; here's why. You say that hope is the belief that our knowledge is correct. If belief = reinforced hope; knowledge = reinforced belief; then hope is the reinforced hope that our reinforced belief is correct. Taking this substitution one step farther, then hope is reinforced hope that our reinforcement of our reinforced hope is correct. Thus, if hope leads to belief and belief leads to knowledge, then the world blows up. This reminds me of the infinite Bob theorem. If "Bob" stands for "Boring Old Bob", then we get an infinite loop because the "Bob" in "Boring Old Bob" also stands for "Boring Old Bob", and that new "Bob" also stands for "Boring Old Bob", and so on forever or until you get bored. So, in conclusion, it's a good piece of philosophy that is on par with the stuff of Emerson, Sophocles, and that one guy who wrote about Zarathustra. |

I see what you say Tyster. But think about it more in terms of Knowledge itself rather than random facts [or not so random] We believe our knowledge to be correct yes? so then surely the next step from belief is knowledge. Then before that we have hope, i think the best example i can think of is Religion. some people, such as myself hope that there is a God but does not have belief that there is one for i have seen no proof. But if i did then surely my Hope would turn to belief no? But i see what you mean though, its still a bit sketchy but it makes sense to me lol. POWER TO TEH PASTA! |

"Knowledge is reinforced Belief, Belief is reinforced Hope and hope is the belief that our knowledge is correct." i agree with knowledge being reinforced belief. i agree with belief being reinforced hope. i disagree with hope being the belief that our knowledge is correct. i think hope is reliance on our beliefs to become our knowledge. |
