Hey

I've been having minor problems with Windows Live Messenger (2009), namely getting a Windows Live Communications Platform error. I can hide the error and WLM works, but its annoying to hide it all the time.

So, I am asking 2 things, either if anyone can help me if they know what to do to fix it or recommended a good (not ugly looking) Windows chat client that will work with my MSN contacts/ MSN profile. One last thing, ascetics are a must, nothing goofy looking.

Thanks a billion

Cerulean Studios' Trillian is great, and free. It actually can run MSN/AIM/YIM/ICQ/IRC at the same time.

I used to use that too, but it's kinda heavy when it loads and all that. Now, I'm using a modified MSN 8.5.

Modified MSN 8.5? Explain a bit, please?

Oh, just to note, you can actually set the transparency of the windows of Trillian if you so desire. It's not really useful, but it can come in handy at odd times. I rarely use it, but it's there if you feel like using it.

Modified:
- Removed Ads
- Added contact avatars in contact list
- Removed useless things (MSN search bar, etc)
- Removed nudge delay & window shake

I use pidgin. It is lightweight and still has the features I've come to like from trillian, like automatic status change notifications/actions (pounces), putting multiple IM names for the same person under one heading, invisibility, etc. Oh, and it doesn't regularly bug you to pay money for a different version every time you upgrade or install.
