Since I couldn't really figure a good way to just simply bring over the mini-convo going on in the F@H thread... how about this?

Before I start on much, I'll just say one major point for those wondering what the definition of a furry is: it's very hard to actually pinpoint a direct definition because that definition tends be skewed to either end of the spectrum of furries and anti-furries. With that said, I think the definition of a furry is as follows:

Someone who likes anthropomorphic (human-like) animals similar to how one might like watch TV shows or other hobbies. This can be expanded to that person liking to create 3d models, drawings, games, stories, shows, and all other sorts of things.

A side definition of a furry is directly referring to the anthros themselves rather than the people. This can cause some confusion at times, but isn't something major really.

I'll be honest: I'm mainly thinking it's the fur-suiters who make the overall fandom look pretty bad, or the dumbasses who stick out like sore thumbs with the more adult side of furry love and try to spread their opinion everywhere. But that actually brings up a side-point for me.

Why do those rabid fangirls of anime get away with their extreme love of anime and related things while a furry can simply say they are one and get @*$^-loads of flak? One funny example happened once to someone I knew:

He was talking to some of those extreme anime fangirls and he mentioned that he was a furry. Here's what was said after that: "OMG, you're a furry!? Eww!" "Oh hey, I do like watching that Naruto show-" "OMG OMG I LOVE NARUTO!!! Do you love Sasuke like I do!? OMG, I wanna marry him!!!"

At that point I facepalmed from like 50 feet away and stopped listening in. I must say that was pretty damn funny though.

Anyways, why do you think people are anti-furry?

It's a 'unique' group. Different from the norm. A minority. You should always expect flak.

I don't hate it, but I also sure as hell don't condone it. The pornographic stuff is just perverse and people don't take too kindly to that sorta stuff. Don't expect much sympathy when the first thing people think of is animal sodomization.

Consider this. Naruto and Sasuke are human. Goofy costumes aside, they'll look pretty ordinary if they somehow materialized in the real world, perhaps even attractive.

Furry love is like half-bestiality.


Xav, what is disgusting about anime, and what do Cowboy Bebop and GitS have that make them exceptions?


EDIT: That doesn't mean ostracizing furries is a group is in any way condonable. It is not.

Well, first off, Anime characters can usually fall under one of a few templates:

Some school girl in an illegally short skirt finds A.) a portal to another world B.) some latent magic that somehow surfaces C.) some magical device.

Or, some guy who looks like a girl has A.) some big robot/vehicle and extremely unlikely skills with it B.) magic C.) some special item with powers.

They disgust me in the fact that there is no real story to them (maybe they're lost in translation, I don't know), the characters are not interesting, the guys look like girls, the girls are always under aged and barely dressed, dialog sucks (maybe lost in translation, still don't know), their weapons are always stupid and make absolutely no sense, and they follow a predictable pattern.

The worst part of this is that you got fans raving over these, seemingly just because they come from Japan.

Now Cowboy Bebop has truly interesting characters, the episodes make me want to keep watching them, and they don't have any of the common, stupid elements commonly found in anime. Ghost in the Shell also shares these qualities. The characters look believable (ie, no little kids saving the world or every guy looking like a chick) and are quite interesting. And none of those stupid oversized weapons either.

Another thing I noticed a night or two ago when I my TV switched from King of the Hill to stupid anime was that every character had weird coloured eyes like green, purple, or red. Almost makes me ashamed to have green eyes. Whats wrong with brown eyes every once in a while?

Also, anime mechs look stupid. Since when are machines of war supposed to look pretty?

MechWarrior mechs... now those are some impressive looking mechs...

Hmm, I like how this thread is so far being pretty civilized. My only point to using that anime example was to show there are always extremes of any group. :P

But yes, I see your point about the consideration Kab. Still sticks out to me whenever they know they're talking about false characters.

Wow, deja vu! three days ago i knew a topic like this might pop up within the next 8 days.
anyway, i dont hate furries. but some parts of the fandom just plain creep me out.
Such as the Weird ass Fetishes, the fursuits. [size=7px] (BIG WASTE OF MONEY!) [/size] sometimes they can ruin stuff with pornographic Artwork witch i believe can cause hate towards Furries. (Chubby hyperphallic Hermaphrodite TF2 Pyro skunk thing? DO NOT WANT! !ill ) the furry pr0nz are fine in my opinion and i know some good artists like Adam Wan (Before he started flooding his gallery with gay p0rnz), Nekogami (Same with Adam wan) Scappo,chibibass,Jay Axer(No p0rnz, but still awesome.) and a few others.
Anti-Furries who go around saying YIFF IN HELL FURFAGS! are just plain humorous. :D
but the Furries in real life are just plain Bizarre or disgusting. Fursuiters for one are far More creepy then Clowns IMO.

Xav, anime is just an art direction, individual shows can still be far away from the stereotypes that you mentioned (like those girls with short skirts). Most of the content out there is crap as far as I know but there is great stuff all around, some on Cartoon Network even.

As for the furries, I do respect it when people like the idea of animals that have human features (art only, obviously).

What else can one do anyway? We can't just control our opinions and tastes (well, the former can be tweaked a bit with some encouragement, like money, which is what keeps global warming alive). Furries don't interest or attract me at all, but there is nothing wrong with people who do like them.

I guess when I think about it, there's two reasons to mind...

1: Furry ladies are sexy as hell.

2: Furry guys aren't so bad, but when people draw sexual content of them, not so much.

And it depends on the style though, most furries are drawn by anime (which is annoying, except for the Devil May Cry Anime, of course) but if you look at Deviant art, well, more or so unsafe for children,

Err Drake? That image is a bit large.... and quite freaky. I might be a furry myself, but I very much see the suits as plain weird and freaky.

But yeah, there are a lot of great artists, ranging from Zaush (Adam Wan), Dark_Nek0gami, Meesh, to lesser known artists who are still pretty damn good, like TekStation. No matter what, I keep trying to get myself actually to draw something near their skill levels. All I end up with is myself playing GH or FM2 instead of actually sitting down to draw, or like right now where I'm even talking about this... XD

I'll watch that episode tomorrow. Ended up spending the hour after you posted that by watching the new episode of 24, lol.

Anyways... another reason I like the fandom is how I'm able to learn about how different artists draw, and even be able to talk to a few (although I do very honestly wish to talk to some of the high popularity artists... (mainly Zaush and Meesh I'm talking about here)). It's kinda funny how I usually get my comments replied to by the artists... I guess having this Peugeot 908 as my avy makes my comments stick out? %-6

I have no prejudice against any furry. Even if they drool over gay furry porn, I wouldn't spit in their face and condemn them to hell.

I just love the irony of a person insulting somebody considerably when they can be easily and heavily insulted themselves. But that never happens, because these people choose the weak or calm. They pick targets that they know won't hurt them in body or mind.

Just shows how pathetic said people are.

Everybody is biased, but it's the dumb ones that show their prejudice full-out. You know, the person who always expects Asians to get killed by their parents for getting a B (there are a few true cases, but just to the point of verbal violence... EXTREME verbal violence). The person who thinks that a furry jacks off to people in fur suits all day. The person who thinks all African-Americans have stashes of drugs and guns.

If I hated someone at all, it would be someone who was a prejudiced bastard who does half of the things he calls people out for. Other than that, I always try to be open-minded to them.

I think i like KylinRage, i have a similar attitude, prejudice is something i try my best not to have.

And the anthro art is just intresting, its an alternative to real life, another place i can lose myself and become someone, which i enjoy doing. Some of it is... weird, so i choose not to look at it, not abuse it. its a bit like anime, you either find it intresting, or ya don't.

But then again, i'm hard to discust and offend, for example, i don't think swearing is bad, its just words and how you perceive them. not many people do, but i've met some who find swearing to be an utter sin...

People who like furry = "Well, alright. I admit I used to like Sonic the Hedgehog back then, too."
People who like to draw themselves as anime = "Eh, sure. A little roleplay helps in liking the media better."
People who like to draw themselves as furry = "It's alright to unleash the animal in you, just don't overstep the boundaries."
People who draw themselves as anime macking with other anime characters = "Man, I think you need a girlfriend/boyfriend."
People who draw themselves as furry macking with other furries = "Remember the boundaries I was talking about? THIS IS IT."
People who draw themselves as a combination of anime and furry doing "da nasty" with other hybrids = "OH GOD NO~!!!"

Ive seen some furry L4D art that is actually pretty neat. I like furries, but im not gonna force others to be into it. If people wanna make fun of furries, let em. It doesnt bug me, and i find it rather funny when furries get offended because they are playing right into the troll's hands and letting them know that if they keep making fun, they are gonna get their laughs. So i just ignore it.

I think the distinction here is that Mickey Mouse and gang aren't really sexualized, and Bugs Bunny's various crossdressing antics and weird Elmer Fudd interactions are just played off for a joke.

I mean, nobody has the hots for Mickey Mouse, right?

Right. Forgot about that. :(

I guess it's the art style. Western animation styles don't really have the same kind of stigma that the Japanese anime art styles do.

[as]'s Saturday lineup isn't so bad, though Bleach is tedium at this point, and Shin Chan is just plain weird. I found Code Geass to be wildly entertaining.

With regards to people who dress up as furry anthropomorphic animal-people, I did see one costume that was pretty badass. It was some kind of wolf or tiger thing, and it actually looked like a menacing tiger-man, instead of a lame sports team mascot or that abomination posted above. I'm not going to Google it, as I fear for my sanity, but it looked pretty neat.

I tend to separate furries into two groups:
Yiffs - any furry that is of an "adult" nature
Furries - any other furry

Anyhoo I quite like Furries (not Yiffs). they are different and great in stories as they are different and push the reader out of their comfort zone.

I have said my part, and I don't care if anyone doesn't like them; it's their opinion, i don't have a right to change it and they don't have the right to change mine.

P.S I'm going to make another thread soon about a picture I drew, if you haven't guessed, it has a furry in it. All seriously anti-furry people can ignore it as I can guess what you are going to say ;)

There's always the few that stand out as actually well done, but a lot art just plain... ugh. If you happen to stumble across that pic again, maybe you could show it to prove to me that there are some well done suits. Otherwise I'll keep making fun of Chuck E Cheese. XD

And i just hate all pukemon or whatever they are called like crap. ~:(
But speaking of anime i did like only one, Appleseed, very well made movie.
