Hello there!
I have been wandering which is the best unreal game?
Personally I think that it is a toss up between UT:GOTYE and UT2004.

P.S I would say Unreal 2 but it is too short, as though they gave half way through and decided to stop there

it depends.
in terms of story Unreal 1 is the best. that game totally changed my life. before it I didn't even cared for aliens, other planets, astronomy. after i saw my brother play it(i was just a kid these days) i was like "wow", the lightning, the outdoors, the aliens... the Nali Temples, the Sunspire(It is so huge!), the Titans... and all that story of a simple prisoner to a messiah to the Nalis(though I learned the story later, since I didn't knew english these days)... this game has a place in my heart.

actually, I don't remember much of UT1, but there was lots of maps that I liked, and the theme music was really cool.

In terms of graphics, UT3, obviously. I love how the weapons are well made, and the vehicles too. these aren't strange, like ut2004 weapons, but have some amazing effects. the bio rifle in ut2004 is simply ridiculous, I hated it visually. but the bio rifle in UT3... it is simply awesome.

Ut2004 isn't thaaaat good, but with Ballistic weapons... it rivals any professional game.
so in terms of mods/mutators, ut2004 is the best.

ah, Unreal 1 music is the best. even if it is not Metal, the genre which I listen, the music was simply amazing. when I listen the 2nd map music(NyLeve falls i think, correct me if I'm wrong), it simply makes me remember these old days :)
I remember that while in school(1st grade) I even was thinking of the Skycaves music...

1#:UT1 among the first PC shooters Ive played
2#:UT3 Pretty good, feels a little like the Classic UT.
3#:UT2 NOT Counting BW or Chaos UT.
Music:
1#:UT1 Classic soundtracks that not even halo can touch.
2#:UT3 Feels more like the classic UT aswell. even bought the soundtrack CD's
3#:UT2. Not really my favorites. but thre are some good one like Corrugation_Rise ,the Go Down Remix,Bifrost bases song and and the song in takora forest.

Unreal is the best Epic ever did in my opinion. Technologically revolutionary (and still today is highly playable on newer systems even if you don't use the unofficial 227 patch from oldunreal.com), rich of atmosphere, challenging bad guys, and I can go on and on.

UT99, aka the original unreal tournament, was my favorite.

Followed up by Ballistic UT2004, and then vanilla UT2004/UT3.

Unreal was alright, I got both Unreal and UT99 back in 2000. Damn that game was classic (Unreal).

UT2004 tops the list now- with the BW mod and Kelly's weapons pack :)

U3- no ratings yet, i gotta upgrade my system to play the damned thing.

i have. i remember going to the nali water temple and tore out my hair trying to figure out WHAT THE Image AM I SUPPOSED TO BE DOING?
the outpost level had such sweet music (Isotoxin).

that's what made Unreal classic. the puzzles were so interesting for the game of it's epoch. to me at least.
and oh man the menu music was so cool.
IIRC i was even scared when the skaarj attacked my brother in the raajigar mines. that scene where the lights shut off and you attack the Skaarj almost blind.
please remember I was a kid these days, and U1 was like Crysis these days. better than crysis in these days.

besides the Nali architecture was so refreshing to see in games. it was unique. and it's still unique.

I love the Nali architecture as well. Though like Drake I was stuck in Chizra for a while on the first runthrough.

while i was playing unreal, i got to Sunspire level (Thats what i think its called) i decided to take a break from all that Puzzle adventure stuff.
so i put on half life and freakin loved it. till i got to XEN, and then i took a break from Half life and so i decided to finish Unreal and after Sunspire i got to the Floating islands and i was like " wait, ANOTHER XEN LEVEL?". :O

Yeah. I love the concept too; an old-age city built on a big island floating a fair distance from the planetary surface. Even more brilliant was the elevator that takes you there. The Sunspire and the Na Pali Haven can make you afraid of heights. . .

in terms of mutator, mods and skins, i prefer ut2004. but utgoty was great, with awesome maps. ut3 is ... maybe... i dont know, have a lot of bad points. i never played Unreal

I'll agree with you on that one. I'd say Unreal was better with the rather intelligent enemies, and the botplay. However, I'd say that Half Life had better atmosphere. :) That first levels still gives me the creeps. As much as the puzzles were simple, jumping crates with oblivion as your alternate destination was so edgy... And Barney wouldnt follow you around for that long! !grr

Yes, you should all be ashamed for not playing the games Bjossi played. How could you even think of playing other games instead, or even worse, not playing computer games at all?

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. It just sounded funny coming out Bjossi, but we all know what you really meant, Yeah, I liked UT, but not as much as HL.

Yes,Unreal 1 trumps them all.

-Good story.
-Fascinating levels.
-Fascinating enemies.
-Reasonably smart enemies.
-Legendary music.

Yes,if you haven't played the original you should be ashamed of yourself,your really missing out!

Man.. THIS IS EASY!!.. Unreal 1, best game epic has ever made, and probably ever will, in my opinion they have gone down since then..

Unreal 1 is what got me started on developing games..
Great story, loved the outdoor scenes, it was dramatic, deep, and fun all the way, i loved the enourmity of it, and the greeat music at times..

Not to mention the intellegent skaarj, and other beasts, there wasn't any other game to top it for many years, if there even is now?..

And who can forget the universal translator.. Nobody ever speaks in the entire game, except through that thing!!..

After Unreal 1, i would have to say:

UT99, also great, and was actually fun to play without any mod..

--Then 2K4(With BW, of course..)
--GOW
--UT3

I'm not even going to put Unreal 2 on here.. Once you have played Unreal 1, and expected Unreal 2 to be a sequel, You will not like it.. it had no "Substance"..

Enough rambling.. Get Unreal 1 while you still can!!, and HL1, both are about equel in my opinion.. Best two games ever made, at least during that time period!!

Best SP? Unreal 1, hands down.

Best multiplayer? So far, the most popular at local LAN's has been Unreal 2 XMP, which is, by the way, fantastic. But then, not very many of us have 2k4 or UT3 yet.

I would understand that with UT3, but UT2 is few years older and shouldn't be hard to find.

I brought the "Unreal Anthology", no UT3 in there but still a great buy!

The Anthology is good for those who want to get into the series and buy all the games (except UT3) in one go.
