Well, I'm glad you guys are okay, and also glad those bastards got caught. I wish for your safety in the future.

seriously? that's totally lame. did they take anything important? such filth needs to be purged from this planet. (alongside Animal rights groups and Earth liberation front.) well anyway, glad your okay. i remember that time i went on a vacation and our stuff got stolen. lost an Ehks Bawks classic and most of my games library, a safe that contained useless credit cards, and nothing of actual value.. i took my PS2 With me. if i had it my way, i would give them a summary Execution with a bullet to the skull. |

Alex and adam are fine, a bit hurt, but i got the most of it. Nothing got stolen from me as i didn't have anything on me, If i did have something on me then i would have fought to keep them. Coulda been a lot worse... but its ok.

If you find yourself in the same situation remember you can put your keys between you fingers to make your punches do more damage (and as long as you don't use excessive force its completely legal!) (not usually advised though, very iffy subject in law) Raziel P.S I'm glad all three of you are alright |

I'd suggest carrying some sort of stungun with you if this is a common thing. Some idiots come up to rob ya, and unless they're armed to the teeth, ZAP 'EM! They're on the ground in convulsions the moment the taser hits. |

Please do tell, Beta, when you said you got used to it, did you really mean that this kinda stuff happens quite often in your area? If so, sorry to hear that. If it's legal, I've heard encouraging stories of people with concealed weapons permits who carry a handgun. Even just waving it around with no bullets and even with the chamber open and safety on should scare off most people from what I've heard. Carrying one with a couple rounds in the mag, chamber empty so you cannot shoot until you manually cock it for safety, and I wouold imagine you would be more mug-resistant. Glad you're fine and they got caught. |

MAN!!, that sucks, glad you didn't get to badly harmed.. In south africa things are a little different, muggings are very common.. Here they will just kill someone then mug them, they don't care about killing people.. You need to be hard, chances are they are more scared of you than you are of them, its phsycological.. We are much better off than most south africans, we have only had.. 2 criminals working for us: 2 attempted break ins: and some other things.. One night 2 guys tried to steal our car radio just after we moved into our new house, We jumped them and they fled like the cowards they are.. One other fool came wandering over our wall, and was accosted by 4 people, we thretened him, and pushed him all the way back over the wall.. Ah fun times.. In south africa, every suburb you drive through, you see walls 6 feet high covered in razor wire, electric gates, and alarm systems.. But what good is that when your house workers let the criminals into your fortress.. Oh and don't count on the cops, they are all corrupt themselves.. Our goverment was also going to ban no leathal weapons, like tazers, pepper sprays, and alike.. They probably though it was too cruel toward the poor criminals.. But i don't think they ever did ban them, Yet.. Anyway.. glad to see you got those Mothers!!, hopefully they won't be getting any walets any time soon.. And i know what you mean by getting used to it.. It's the adreneline.. I usually get that when there is something criminal going on.. But it's usually the Fight version, not Flight.. Never show weakness toward your enemy, unless you are trying to catch them off guard.. Oh and don't worry about 2010, criminals will never hurt tourists, actually they are prime targets, they don't expect to be murdered for a dime.. And i'm sure they won't murder the opposing teams, because Bafana Bafana suck so much.. OK!!.. enough ranting, time to recover my moderate nature.. South africa is A-OK!! |

Shit i seen a video maybe on youtube (dont remember) some gopniks (russian word ) started a fight with a group of skinheads, one of skinheads put out a gun and started shouting that if they get any closer he will shoot, so one of the other groups guy was just walking straight at him and said "put the gun away or i will stick it in your ass" then he got close enough and hit him in a jaw and took the gun.
Anyways glad you and your buds are ok. |

I guess the stories I've heard, then, came from wimpy cities... or from the people who did not die as a result. |

Everyone that knows me is expecting me to say "get a concealed carry license and carry a small pistol with you (if your 21)" well Concealed carry is a good thing, you gotta be careful and draw before they get over to you that way they dont get a new toy to mug even more people with. so look into less then lethal defense options. Such as brass knuckles, mace, collapsable battons and the like. but always check your state and local laws before purchasing such objects or carrying them. |

This is a good idea. Another good thing is just to carry a penknife on you. Or just wear a pair of steel toed shoes Those are gonna hurt someone.
One of the things I do is play rugby. Getting hit by people and hitting people often means that I don't really like having to hit people. However, you do get angry and keep inside. Should the situation e.g. getting mugged, call for it then feel free to tackle and start raking and stomping.
I've never really thought of carrying collapsible batons before. I know a place in Manhattan that does sell them so now I'll look up the prices and legal stuff. They also sold NVGs...hmm....

I just carry around a flamethrower when I find myself in a large city. However, they're banned around gas stations, so I just carry around a railgun, instead. One person tried to steal my car and ended up with his head spread across about an acre of pavement. Good times. (No, I'm not really serious). I never really considered arming myself, at all. I sometimes carry around a leatherman, but that's for utility purposes. Then again, I don't really need to protect myself, since the only time I'm out of the house is when I'm running around the quiet neighborhood, or walking around the GVSU campus. |

Speaking of personal protection, non-lethal weapons are always a good thing. Often they can be worn on you at all times without anyone even realizing it. Like weighted gloves; I'm not real sure about the legality of them here in Michigan or elsewhere, but those things can weigh half a pound each. You can easily wear those whenever you are in unfamiliar areas. Half a pound extra in your punches could easily floor someone with a well placed punch. But anyways, I hope that no one else here is put into a situation like that any time soon. |

Half a pound extra in your punches could easily floor someone with a well placed punch. Reminds me of a story about a boxer who weighted his gloves with murcury so that his opponents didn't show any unusual marks. The gloves were discovered after his death from murcury poisoning. I think that beta lives in the UK (not sure though), which would severly limit the defensive options available. The last thing you want is to encorage someone new to carry a knife. And, I'm going to guess that this was in Manchester. |

I don't think that violence is a good answer to this... since when you beat the other guy he probably will call his friends to beat you another day. or worse, they pull off a Revolver and you suddenly meet mr. christ... and while you will pick your dagger/battlehammer/flamethrower/RPG, the guy will probably shoot you. but it's good that you're well, glad nothing really bad happened. the best is that the bastards got caught. |

That reminds me of what I heard one person say, which is that if you are in a situation where someone is endangering your life or someone you care about (e.g. a house break-in), shoot the bastard. If he/she is still moving, shoot again. If the aggressor has been turned into a string of meatballs, but is still twitching, keep shooting. It's not my generic advice, but interesting, anyway. It seems your way of handling the situation worked out well, but I wonder what would have happened if you had a switchblade and randomly slashed one of the aggressor's arms wide open? That would look kinda ackward in court. If the aggressors had a good blade and you ended up with your stomach hanging out, would your last thoughts be "If only I had a sidearm"? I mention this only as a thought experiment, since we're getting philisophical (which I think is good). I guess there's no real good way to tell what's best until the dust has settled, the jury spends 10 hours deciding whether a decision made in a half second was wise or not, and the court has been adjourned? Oh, and I'm sorry if WWII references are way overdone on intenernet forums, but isn't the idea of not fighting back what Poland did before it was conqured by the war machine? Now that humanity has had a half century to think about it, was it a good call, or should they have taken the route of Stalingrad, assumming that was an option? Just asking for the sake of getting ideas on fighting back vs. compliance today. Again, if you're worried that I'm some sorta psychopath because of what I'm saying, it's just a thought experiment -- a game, if you wish. |

well I say this because here if you kill a criminal you become a criminal. and besides here some criminals are underaged, like 15-16, and so are protected by law. go to hell this, criminal is criminal, if he kills someone he needs to die, if he steal something go to jail for a long time. Law here is ridiculous... I'm actually really lucky because I didn't got mugged or anything. but then, I rarely go out, I prefer to stay in my house. |

i think.. when you're being attacked by a bunch of nutters, then you don't think "If i hurt them i might get in trouble with the law". I'm sure thats the last thing on your mind.. you'll probably try whatever it takes to survive.. what good's the friggin law if you're dead eh? Where we live, our best defense agaisnt house robberies at least (which are extremely common here, oftening ending in murder) is that no-one knows anything about us. We have big trees growing in front, no outsiders work at our house, etc. Drunks passing in the night tell each other to be careful because "careful man, theres weird people living there" We're of course watching them from the darkness..
in the news here, some kid (12-13) snuck up behind a criminal who was beating up his parents in there own house, got the perp with a cricket bat to the head. The kid was then investigated and had to prove what he did was within the law.. not sure what happened after that.. wtf! |

Its how the world works now days. That stuff is starting to happen here in America. Someone breaks into your home and they are armed, but you may get the first shot off, they then investigate you and yada yada... then theres also the possibility that the would be thief/murdere or his family could sue you if you harm or kill him. Sure a good portion of the time the law realizes that you were well within your rights to do it... but sometimes you can get sued for protecting your home, family, and self. If someone tries bustin in my place.... Gun and cell phone are my best friend. |
