and I gotta say, omg, its awesome! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814141091 this is the one that i got, not a bad brand, this is my 1st biostar card! the only thing I didnt get was 2 6 pin video adapters with the card, but i emailed biostar the invoice and they sent me 2 6 pin video adapters. I tested the card in a buddy of mines computer because my motherboard died, but my other hardware works. I was gonna this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130370 but bjossi suggested to me that I get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814141091 but i would've had 2 get a bigger power supply with the card, so I got the radeon card because it was cheaper to get it and I could keep my 500 Watt PSU that i have, and I couldnt get be any happpier with this card.

I want 2 thank bjossi for suggesting me this card, i also like ATI's strategy for making this card run cooler and faster, so I suggest this card to anyone who wants a top of the line card from ATI!

and about 4 times as good as that when I can afford to upgrade... then I will not be able to afford it :@

Raziel

P.S did I read that right? 1Gb of graphics card? That is literally 2x mine!

I have radeon 4850 and I get black flippering screen often that crahes often the game and gives the message that windows has been succesfully restored from broken drivers or something like that. Or that the video card did not respond. I don't remember right. In worst cases the compuer crashes and has to be restarted from Bill Gates favorite screen...

@bjossi. yeah I bet they will bud. theyll be good cards when they come out im sure!

@Raziel. yes, its a 1GB video card. and yes, u read that right bud!

EDIT 1: oh Kien, I have PMed u about ur 4850 issues. check ur PMs!

Kien's case is either bad drivers or bad video card. I would guess the former judging by what the crash report says.
Easy enough (but can be a little tedious) to uninstall display driver + CP from Add/Remove, boot into safe-mode and remove remaining files with DriverSweeper, reboot, install new driver, reboot again and test the new driver.

Oh, and Roy, I would keep that 'S' in PMS lowercase, I doubt Kien is going through pre-menstrual stress. ;)

i have a ATI X1650(Upgrade from my ATI 200 that came with it) and a stock processer used for my HP media Center 2005 XP.
it can run UT3 pretty good. (Better with the crucible mod) and Any game that uses the Source Engine pretty smoothly.
i have been thinking of upgrading my CPU

@bjossi. sorry bud, Ill keep that in mind!

edit 1: I have edited the post to where the s is lower case 2!

its an 3700+ AMD athlon 64 processor. (it says so on my computer case)

The CPU needs to hold hands with the GPU in terms of power, otherwise it will bottleneck the GPU's overall performance.

I was rather hinting at the "hidden lines" in his post. I got the impression that he thinks even the Geforce 8000 series are not powerful enough for Crysis, which would be crazy-talk.

Post subject:  I got the ATI Radeon 4890 Video Card

@bjossi.. heh, yeah it would be crazy talk! my 4890 card runs Crysis Maxed out at DX9 at 40-50 FPS and at DX10 with 30-40 FPS!

That card is definately up there on the performace charts (http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gami ... ,1197.html). Not a good enough deal to make me abandon my current card, but it does look good. So, I have hear in the past that ATI was falling pretty far behind nVidia in terms of power and value. Has this changed recently?

@tyster... u know, I have no Idea if thats changed recently or not!

When looking for new cards, the site i looked at showed that most of the ATI cards run hotter than the nVidia equivalents.. Now i have the 8800GT OC and DC has the 9800GT 768 i think... Very nice cards. I hope that we don't need to upgrade for a couple years..

I know ATI runs the Source engine faster than equal nVidia cards..

I'm still using my 7900 GTX and it can still cope with medium/high settings in latest games, so you probably won't have to upgrade in quite a while.

And by the way, to get a clear picture of performance, you have to look at benchmarks, saying "It runs Source better" doesn't hold any water and is utterly pointless.

Though you're probably right about the heat, for the HD 4890 at least, it goes as high as 60°C when idle if no additional cooling hardware is added. Though I haven't looked at any numbers for similarly powerful nV cards so I don't have a comparison, but 60 at idle does seem very high and will hopefully be reduced noticeably for the HD 5000 series.

I have a 4870 X2 and it runs about 32C idled, even in a room that is naturally about 80F. Might be my case's fans that help out a bunch... but it goes to about 39C when I play HL2 maxed out and the fans left to 50% by accident.

due to my computer crash, the benefits provided by my graphics card is essentially nullified. :(

Maybe you need to reinstall the drivers? It would make sense that it runs a lot slower if that is the case.
