Yeah... I'm talking about the old collectible card game Magic the Gathering.

Lately I've been intrigued by it and the possibility of playing it against others, however I have no interest in buying expensive cards,or using magic online, thus I have developed a way to play it with others completely for free.

So does anyone have interest in this game? If so,I'd like to request that you contact me on Skype (I use the same name on skype as on these forums)

Well, its not all that expensive to just buy a deck for $10-$13 and try it out. Heck, you can probably get a deck for free if you are just starting at a local card shop. At least the one I frequent, he got a bunch of packs specifically for new players to try and have for free.

I don't bother getting all the best ones and all that crap. I just buy a deck or two, and use the cards my bro doesn't use. I don't play it a whole lot though.

I'd be interested in trying it against you, save for the fact that I don't have Skype.

I remember me having a few cards, but how would be able to play over skype? D:

Just wondering since I am interested to a certain degree.

Via txts.

Yeah... Ghetto. But I have a zip all set up to send to anyone to give them a jump start, sans cards, you'll have to build your deck somehow. I will provide the cards though. Unless we use 'dream decks'.

And for shuffling cards,I went extra ghetto and discovered I can use winamp's randomisation feature along with 60 dummy tracks.

Hmm... Does Skype require high speed interwebz?

If not I would be tempted to try it out. I'd love to remake my awesome White exalted deck with your method and pwn the living crap out of you, one creature at a time. :p

By the way, what sets do you have usable?

Also, have you tried this?

Its been a while since I used it, but when I used it last (approx. 5 or so years ago) it was pretty damn neat.

Skype should be safe for lower speed connections, unless your planning to use the video feed features, which is completely unnecessary for us to play MTG,or just talk in general.

Sets... eheheh... Um...

Well lets just say I'm not using the un-sets. Really I think the case of sets is something we should work out.

I have two methods we can play at the moment, both of which are typical standard rules, but they determine the types of cards we can use.
The first is 'dream decks',which goes by the rule of 'if it is in The Gatherer it is valid.(again, sans un-sets)

Second is a 'booster' system. This is where you request a 'booster pack' and I go on gatherer and use the random search feature to collect fifteen cards, which I then paste the names, mana costs, and urls into a txt, then send to you.

Of course we can discuss any changes we might want.

WHAT? No Un- sets?! Those are the best kinds!

Though come to think of it, it wouldn't be very satisfying playing Cards like Ashnod's Coupon if I couldn't see you fulfill the card's instructions...

Also, check out that link I edited in after you posted. Its pretty neat stuff last checked, downloading it again now. It has a visual representation of the cards, which is kinda needed in MTG due to the many levels of stuff there is to do.

I might get Skype, but I'm already running 3 messenger protocols at the moment and I'm not sure if my dial up can handle another, since it barely lets me connect the existing ones already.

What are the other messengers?

The reason I'm trying to focus on skype is that it allows very easy transfer of files,as well as its other plethora of features.

Also... Downloading apprentice. O)

I got MSN, ICQ, and AIM running at the moment. I usually don't go on ICQ since I only got two contacts for that, one of them is OCAdam, who is on all my other protocols, and the other I haven't heard from in a long time and I assume he no longer uses the account I have in my list.

So your running ALL of these?

I'm gonna say this real quick,I might try reaching out to another community of mine http://www.bay12games.com/forum/

It is pretty big,so if I do,I might end up with a small personal magic community on Skype. O)

I've been into MTG years ago and had some nifty decks. It would be nifty to try one of my decks against someone online. Here are some I would hope to use that I have built.

Zap: Lots of quick instant damage spells, like shock, lightning bolt, etc. Total deck value was something like $5 because it used only basic cards.

Kapwing: Lots of counterspells to hopefully keep your opponent frusterated until you build up some mana for some burns.

My Kavu deck with infinite loop. The horned kavu has an ability that say when it is played, I must return a green or red creature to my hand. The horned kavu is green and red, so I can return it to my hand. Alluren says anyone can play any creature for free that has a total cost of 3 or less. I have an enchantment that says when I play a creature card, my enemies take 1 damage. So, my circle of MTG friends agreed that the rules allowed me to summon the horned kavu, return it to my hand, summon it again, return it to my hand, and so on infinity times because it is free thanks to alluren, dealing infinity damage. For a finish with a flourish, use a storm card, which increases its effect for every spell played before it, like one that would allow me to put my opponent's entire hand into his/her graveyard forcing him/her to lose from not having a deck to draw from.

My elf deck with infinite loop: Standard elves that are more effective when more elves are in play, but this had a twist. I had elves that could tap to give me life, give me mana, make any creature stronger, and another elf that could be tapped to un-tap any creature I had. So, I put a creature enchantment on this elf called "Pemmen's Aura", which allowed me to un-tap that creature when I pay a blue mana. In other words, for 1 blue mana, I could effectively un-tap any creature I had out becasue I can un-tap the creature that can tap to un-tap any creature I had. So, I tap my channeler elf to make blue mana, use another elf to un-tap the channeler, use the enchantment to un-tap the elf so it can un-tap the channeler again, and so on. This loop could then be applied to infinitely un-tap elves that made my creatures stronger, gave me mana, damaged enemies, and give me health. I could send an infinity/infinity creature with trample towards my enemies, deal infinity damage to all players and flying creatures, gain infinite health, and put infinite mana into a giant burn.

Yeah, I made a few infinite loop decks, using primarily the Mirrodin block. Heh, really, its not hard with that block, so much overpowered goodness, you could almost make an infinite loop with any 2 commons and an uncommon. :p

Love the Kavu deck. Perfectly legal, and a brain freeze at the end is a nice touch. 8)

SO anyone gonna play Apprentice?

I'd like to give it a shot Multiplayer. Didn't make a deck yet, but I can make due with a random 10th edition plus one booster from each set in the Time Spiral block.

Possibly... If I could find out how the heck a person goes about connecting with another person on the internet...

EDIT:Never mind,figured it out I think...

Big issue is I'm going to have to create a new deck or go with a pre-fab,the one I fashioned up using gatherer uses a conflux card.

Ah, gotcha. Just go with a random deck for now, Using cards no older than say, Odessey? Use one deck from one set, and 3 boosters from any three sets.

Then you can just make a random deck, tweak it a bit, and bam. You got something. I will use a random deck too, so we'll be on equal playing grounds for the most part. Hell, just to give me a handicap, I'll just use the Kamigawa block. :)

Wanna get a game in? I'm not sure how to connect, but considering you have a better connection than me, I recommend you host (assuming you do host?) PM me the details if you wanna play a game.

It's probably not outdated,I'm just feeling clueless. 0P

I might just build a quick red Ro9 deck.(Yeah... I'm red,or so the test says)

EDIT:deck done, all to do now is have you give me a IP and await call.

I've done a horrible, horrible thing to my sleeping patterns and created a 17 card deck.

Yes it works. Is it stable? I have no idea.

And yes,it abuses rather expensive cards.
