Yes i have been inactive for some time on these forums and i apologize. And i did get a much better computer, sadly not good enough to run ut3 at decent frame rates. i also found my copy of ut04 with the cd key so yay.

For some reason one of my ram slots are not reading all of the ram i have in one stick, i just put in a ram stick that had 500 mb and it isnt even reading half of it so i should of had more ram. Tho my computer runs hl2 and css like a charm

You might even be able to handle heavier games like UT3 on higher settings with that system. The CPU is quite weak for even your average computer today and the RAM is not exactly impressive, but it is my understanding that the GPU does most of the heavy lifting, especially with a nVidia 9XX0. I'd be curious to hear how your computer handles heavy games if you ever get any installed.

yea i do need a major upgrade for mt ram and cpu but the video card is ok. But i do have a nvidia bfg card sitting on my desk ready to be installed but we have had major issues getting it to work so im not even sure if the card is still good

The Radeon 9000 series were benchmarked with RtCW over 6 years ago, I don't think it can run UT3 at higher settings. But even if he had a powerful card like a Geforce 9xx0, it would be heavily bottlenecked by the processor.

Oh, and it depends entirely on the engine which hardware has the biggest role when running a game. UE2.5 for example relies more on CPU than the typical game of the GPU era, but I don't know about UE3.0.


@trunkmonkey: It may be that your system is dual channel enabled. If that is the case, putting two RAM modules with different specs into a matching bank is a bad idea. Not only will the mobo downclock the faster module to the speed of the slowest one, but there is a good chance the memory controller doesn't like the differing capacity either and does something to correct it. This is both bad for performance and stability. If your mobo is dual channel enabled, make sure the two RAM sticks are not in the same bank (they are usually color-coded, so just put the modules into differently colored slots).

Oops, My bad. I somehow thought I saw nVidia, even though RADEON was in all caps. Cancel what I said about the video handling UT3. I recall my old Radeon 9200 Sapphire (I didn't know much back in the day) could handle UT2004 pretty well, BW well enough on lower settings, but nothing heavier than HL2.

it worked i put two ram sticks with 512 mb each and i got a gig of ram now. Nothing impressive but hey get whatever you can take. thank you bjossi

I know that system can run Rise of Nations which is a fun game. Should'nt have to much trouble with Ut04 but I dont remember how well my old 1.8 GHz athlon handled it. Bon Voyage and best of luck with your future gaming endeavours

UT2 is light on resources, even for a 2004 game. But trunkmonkey is way behind the times still, his upgrade is vastly inferior to the one I made over 3 years ago.

Same here, 3 years ago I had a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz that I thought was the shiz! Even though at that time everyone was upgrading to dual cores and such. By todays standards as I speak Im still behind the times just trying to play a never ending catch up game.
