I lol'd.

After the crap-a-thon that was the Chronicles of Riddick: EfBB remake I'm a little worried that this will not give me a reason to replace the older game, but it does look very promising.

I don't know... I still have my Serious Sam: Gold edition and that works with my windows vista 64 bit with my new laptop (which is a Dell studio XPS). I love the original and I'm not sure whether or not to re-buy this...

Rebuy? This is a remaster, not a re-release. ;)
If you love the original you really can't go wrong here. The HD releases (yes, Second Encounter is also being remastered) will be powered by Serious Engine 3, which guarantees hardware and software support for many years to come (the older games are already getting to the point of malfunctioning without doing workarounds on many systems). And of course with the new and shiny engine comes new and shiny HD content and graphical features. Though the best part (imo) is SEd 3, which will either be bundled with the PC release or later released in a patch.

I will be buying this as soon as possible, I just wish the PC version wasn't being released later than the Xbox Live Arcade version.

I'll think about it... I just hope they give Sam his original haircut in the second encounter instead of the stupid porcupine look...

I fully agree with you there. They're going back to Sam's look, not sure whether it will be FE and SE but either way would be better than SS2 (yuck).

Look around the internet for some screenshots. The cover art was revealed some time ago and shows the new Sam standing on a pile of dead baddies and has a minigun in one hand. 8)

He's got his buzz cut, which is awesome. And the cover looks awesome.

What's really great is the first 3 comments.

"Best trailer ever."
"Best Comment to the Best Trailer Ever."
"Best reply to the best comment to the best trailer ever!"

So, what's a krundle?

My brother and i loved the chronicles of reddick remake, i didnt play the new game but i played the remake of EfBB and thought it did pretty well for a fps/stealth game, what was so bad about it?

Was serious sam a PC as well as a xbox or ps2 game...? maybe i should check it out for PC...

It does well as a game, but I'm comparing it to the original version, if you haven't played the original then naturally you will not dislike it unless you thought the game was bad.

The original has manual saving (I ♥♥♥♥♥ hate checkpoint-only save systems which seems to be a popular trend nowadays), superior ammo system, more crisp and not overly shiny graphics, one didn't need a config file hack to get 4:3 or 5:4 aspect ratios to display correctly, the menu system effects look much cooler and it actually allowed mouse navigation unlike the lazy console->PC port job done on the new menu system, sound effects are more boomy and the guns look bigger and meaner in first person view, etc.

In shorter words; I'm keeping the original.

I was playing through, the original Serious Sam demo and my dad, from the next room over, said "Those are the worst sound effects I've heard in quite a while".

That sounds reasonable Bjossi, i thought you were just going to describe how everything with the game was just wrong lol. The graphics in the new one are overly shiny and from what i remember the weapons arent that bulky, i do love the combat/melee though. Its so "in your face" and stylish.
Now i want to play the old one...

Another thing worth noting is that godforsaken flash whenever the first person view shifts from light to darkness or vice versa. It is so unnatural and annoying that I'm surprised it got through, and I'm legally blind for crying out loud. HDR is cool when used properly, but I'd much rather want no HDR than excessive HDR.

So to sum this up, in the remaster I play a visually impaired Riddick (seriously, when I want to see washed out graphics I take my glasses off) running around in gloss-smeared corridors shooting bad guys with a wimp-sized shotgun that make wet farts when the trigger is pulled. I take crisp graphics and gun sounds that make pictures fall off walls over that watered-down crap any day.

I strongly recommend buying the original if you ever find it in a bargain bin. It is far less demanding on resources while still looking better (though this is subjective, I define good graphics as sharp and detailed) and it has a much more "in-your-face" feeling to it imo, in the original I feel like I am punching bad guys but in the remaster I feel like I'm watching Riddick punch bad guys, hard to explain.

Do they really call this HD?

Yes, the X360 version of the game will be rendered in 720p, hence the HD in the title.

It doesn't even look like HD to me.

Remember HL1 for PS2? They said it has HD while it looked the same to me with other crappy toys (M4A1, M92)

The X360 version will be rendered in 720p (an HD resolution), PC players will be able to play it in HD like they have been doing in PC games since the late 1990s and textures will be high resolution which is pretty much the norm nowadays. So what exactly is not HD here? (do keep in mind that you are looking at a compressed recording, not the actual number crunching of the engine, by the way)

I cant imagine what you would expect...
It just means the game will be displayed at a 16:9 ratio(HD) or w/e.

I'm not sure if the term HD takes aspect ratio into account, afaik it is only about high resolutions.
