Main Runestorm site down?

I'm getting a 404 when I try to get to the Runestorm forums. Anyone else getting this problem?

You need to change your link to the .com instead of the .za.net now. I had the problem until I tried the .com version. Then it works perfectly!

There is no reason to have .za.net when there is .com.
I've been using the com domain for ages.

Yeah, that was it. I had bookmarked the page back before they registered the .com domain. I guess the .za.net domain expired?

Yeah, I should post some news on the front page about it...but we did the conversion to the .com a long time ago, and put up news etc. about it, but I see a LOT of people still using the .za.net in the logs, so I needed to force people to the .com !

I'll look for another way to do a re-direct so people notice the change...

I think the reason (this was MY reason) is simply because it was cool to be able to have such an odd (read: cool) ending to a website's url. dot com is very used, so when you get a site that's like.... (.co.uk), (.ne.jp), or as was on RS (.za.net), it's more fun. Iunno, but it's just why I kept using the (.za.net)...

Everyone one of those domians you named are generic domian endings for various countries. .co.uk is the UK, and .ne.jp is I imagine, Japan or the Netherlands. .za is South Africa's default domain. I imagine for the residents of those various countries they are rather boring.

I know. However, I don't visit many sites with the country dependent url endings, so I usually will favorite the non .com variant.

.co.za and org.za is South Africa's main domains, i.e. .za is the countries TLD (top level domain).

The .za.net is a free domain service, in protest against having to pay for domain names!

We only went with it, because it was easy to get at the time, and was of course free :)
But, you get what you pay for, and I don't have much control over it, and they are very slow to update details, DNS entries etc.

I have FULL control over the .com's registered for RS, and feel much more at ease...i.e. I have options if there are problems 8-)

Well makes sense in the site admin's eyes. Since I've been a site admin, I understand completely.
