Just got one today. It decided it wanted to simply nest itself into IE6 (my main browser!), so now I've pretty much been forced to use Firefox (FF2 though, not 3, I never downloaded that). Kinda annoying, but seriously, people who make these viruses and such tick me off.

It's like a practical joke the creator never actually gets to see in action, else they are being attacked by their own virus, which then it's not even funny to them! WHYYYYYY!?

Internet Explorer gets hit by viruses a lot. It's horrible compared to most browsers. You have any anti virus programs? If not I recommend a system restore sooner rather then later.

Best I've got is a free version of Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware program. It works pretty good for when I need it, but it seems to miss a few things... annoyingly.

-Always have two sets of PC-scanners: Anti-virus and Anti-spyware. For example, I got Avira Antivir and Spybot S&D.

-Always update your web browsers. I can't stress enough how important this is, ESPECIALLY when using IE (IE7 is the standard while IE8 is still in its beta phase).

You can always look at filehippo.com for some free Anti-virus and Anti-spyware programs, and they work!

Hey i only use shaw secure and it works great!

But the one thing you gotta do is avoid the sites and downloads of places with a higher risk of getting viruses and what not.

Well, I've fixed my problems I think. I ended up getting both AVG 8.0 and Avast, and together they've removed my virus I think. The virus tried to prevent me from even accessing EITHER site, but I just used download.com and got those from there.

I usually stick to my more trusted sites.... just happened to mess up once. ATM, I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.16. Probably need to update to FF3... sometime.

Edit: Well crap, the main thing I wanted to be rid of is still there... My Internet Explorer is the main infected thing, but I can't delete it!

Heh yah i haven't had a virus myself for a loooong time (like threee years now). And it makes me laugh when my friends start complaining about getting a virus... I just turn around to them and tell them to stop pirating music and games and thats when they reply "Why should i stop when i dont have to pay for that stuff?" and thats when i just look at them, smile, and shake my head slowly.

Also just reinstalled Windows Defender since I couldn't remember how to re-enable it. It found another Trojan on it's own, so the 3 are working to get rid of stuff pretty well I'd say. Now lets see if I get any pop-up ads now...

Mainly I loved IE's way of getting to my favorites. Eh, I can make do without easy access to favorites with a super huge Favorites button I guess... also, just installed FF3.0.5, so I should be good on browsers...

Although, my computer does run a bit slower on web page openings with all 3 things looking for anything wrong. :P I don't mind, as long as UT2004 doesn't slow down too much with them running.

Just make sure you do NOT get the latest Internet Explorer Beta, Windows has admitted that it has a plethora of security holes. If you install it and then update to service pack 3, you're stuck with it.

Personally I'd stick with Mozilla as it is much more secure.
