Post subject:  Zombie Survival... Be Prepared!

So, say you wake up in the morning to find a zombie munching on your neighbor's brains while walking out to the bus stop.

What do you do? What do you grab? What will you do after wards? Will you join up with friends? Will you go it alone?

How will you combat this undead menace? Will you hole up in an easily defendable position? Will you wander from place to place, scavenging for your needs?

How will you surive? Will you prey on the weak, taking what you need and want? Will you try to build a self sufficient fortress? Or will you be a savior, exterminating the hordes of the undead, saving those who have surived so far?

Personally, my theory is that if a zombie isn't within arms reach of you, its not a threat to you for the time being.

My first plan of action would be to meet at my friend Sgt. Smash's house, about 15 minutes away by car. I'd bring with me a few changes of clothes, my various bits of armour and military gear, my hatchets, axe, and crowbar. I'd also bring my crossbow and several guns and as much ammo I can fit into our three vehicles.

That should be good for my armaments, though it may take several trips. Melee weapons and some armour would be my first priority and would make it in the first trip.

For food, we got a lot of canned food laying around the house. I'd be grabbing as much of that as I can, along with any food in the fridge that may last for a little while without refridgeration, like bacon, cheese, ham, stuff like that.

Hopefully, my other friends will be on their way to Sgt. Smash's house as well. Once we get things unpacked and food sorted out and stored as best as possible, our first order of operations would be to set up some preliminary defenses. This could be digging ditches, stacking logs, setting up fences, dunno. It depends on what we got. The defences would be stretched out behind Smash's house, out of immediate sight from the road (not too hard to accomplish in his area). After preliminary defences are laid out, work on more permanent ones will be started on, and work on a garden/food gathering shall be looked into so that a permanent, reliable food supply can be acquired.

Zombies will likely be very lowly populated in this area and for several miles, considering the population per square mile is definitely below 20.

After that, we would likely try to get more supplies from our houses in several caravan trips. Work would be underway to try and rebuild a new life.

Once we have a safe base established, work would be done to find survivors, and zombies will be terminated as part of a regular task. Large cities are not near here, but in the case of zombie infested areas, all members of the party will be equipped with rifles. Most likely, I will have on armour (consisting mostly of thick leather, many layers of thin leather, and metal plate, of which, I have all three) and be carrying an axe at the ready at all times in case zombies manage to get too close.

We will keep to open areas with an escape route available to us. Zombies will be picked off at ranges close enough that misses will be unlikely. In case of melee engagement, I will be taking front while using my axe. To prevent infection from fluids coming in contact with eyes or mouth, I will wear my gas mask, and I will also be covered up as much as possible to prevent infected fluids from entering through wounds. My hands will be covered in weighted gloves, that not only will offer protection, but will have enough weight to deliver more power in my punches should I have to resort to punching zombies.

Others will ideally not have to engage in melee combat as heavily, and as a result, should not have to be wearing as much protection.

In the event that we wish to explore a building, armour will worn for those entering the building, or at the minimum I will be taking front and entering the rooms first. The rooms will be cleared one at a time. After the building has been fully cleared, search for supplies will commence, carefully. Cleared buildings will likely be marked and have entrances lightly barricaded to deter zombies from wandering in later.

With any luck, survival can be achieved, and attempts to contact other survivors will be made regularly.

So, what will you guys do in the event of a zombie uprising? This is a serious discussion. It could happen any day. Also, hypothetical questions and scenrios are welcome. It makes it a lot more fun, and tests your ingenuity.

Post subject:  Re: Zombie Surival... Be Prepared!

I will die. because being a Hunter is fun.
with any luck I can become a tank. but I need to eat some steroids before.

ok, now more seriously, I would pick my bow, sword and Dagger, and... Defend our house. perhaps we will contact my godfather, because he has a Boat. if this fail, I think we should lock ourselves in the car and travel around. I think I need to maintain distance from the zombies. unless they are slow and/or it isn't an infection. I will avoid melee at ALL costs. killing one would spill blood, and this blood would probably enter my body, entering their ranks.

ahhh now I wish that my father didn't donated his revolver to the disarmament campaign we had in Brazil :( .

to be honest, If the situation becomes dire, I'll suicide. really, I will not live long anyways.

but I'll definitely go with a group. going alone is Idiotic. you can't see your back.

If it happens I would hope that a zombie kill a police officer so that I can use the weapons. but then, police officers here are so bad equipped...

I don't know any friend here near that has a weapon. a ballistic weapon, that is.

unfornately I live in a state capital, so there's lots of people.

but then, nothing will happen, as Bjossi said in the old RS thread :D

I would join the military ranks and aid them in eliminating this scourge from the Earth.

In the event that the US military forces would become disbanded, I would band together with a group of strong, athletic friends and begin construction of a safe house. Trenches, walls, gated entrances, spotlights, and mounted weapons would be a must.

Regular scouting and termination raids would be performed to both rid local cities of zombies and gather additional resources.

Standard gear would consist of:
- Comfortable thick leather armor with kevlar elements to protect from melee and small-arms.
- Crowbar or Machete. [Only crowbar if said zombies have headcrabs.]
- M1A1 Carbine.
- Squad Support Weapon. [1 per squad.]
- Precision Sniper Rifle. [1 per squad.]
- Rations.

Infected comrades would be terminated and passing civilians would be inspected for disease from the safety of the walls.

The primary goal would be to purge and expand the initial safe zone until the nearby key landmark (Military base, city center, scientific laboratory, etc.) contained no more zombies. That area would then be set up as primary HQ with a triangular pattern of safehouses acting as watch towers. We would then dig in for a siege and gradually upgrade the HQ to a defensible fortress.

Honeestly, i would go nomad, either alone or with a few people. I would roam around scavenging whatever i can to survive and try to get a few weapons and supplies, maybe at the nearby RAAF base, its only a few kilometers away. after that its basically do what we can to survive, but if worst comes to worst, i will try to lead the zombies away from the group to a place where i can make a big explosion and take down as many hellspawn as I can.

There is no victory without sacrifice

Glosmostinex, there is always a way. Anything that won't break after hitting it against concrete a couple times probably will be sufficient to bash some skulls. Best bet would be to make it out of the capitol as fast as possible, avoiding zombies as much as possible. Wearing several layers of thick clothes should offer decent protection from zombies if you don't engage in combat with them too much.

Question, Kelly. Where are you going to get the comfortable thick leather armour with kevlar elements? Or the precision sniper rifle? How about rations? Canned food, I assume?

Do you even have a machete? Do you know where you can get one if you don't? And in the event you choose to go with a machete, you must make sure you can keep it maintained. A dull machete doesn't work good. Trust me on that one.

Also, maintainence of guns is a must too.

What if one of the survivors you take in was infected but you missed it? Wouldn't it be wise to have a quarantined area caged off just to be sure?

A large area would not be easy to maintain in terms of resources and manpower. You couldn't know if everyone is free from infection.

Zer0, a noble plan, but uneccessary. A military base should be able to keep zombies at bay for a while. The only problem would be if infection got inside the base. As long as you follow orders and help out, you should be fine and live a good, long life.

I'd get the hell out of my house and go over a couple blocks and grab a few guns from my local gun shop (because the zombies would pretty much kill everyone in my hometown, most of the are drunks)

I'd Grab a .357 Revolver and a .223 Bolt Action Rifle.

Then I'd see if anyone is left to get a ride to Havre, Montana and pick up a good Ol' fashioned 12 gauge pump Shotgun.

After I grab some more guns (3 at the most), I'd also grab a knife for up close needs, and I scavenger food.

Id stock up on weapons, food and supplies and go out zombie hunting. But because of the fierce gun laws in Australia, weapons i could get my hands on would be stale, hard bread and a whippersnipper.

If i was going to die, id attract the zombie while my friends and family escaped and go down swinging.

A large area would not be easy to maintain in terms of resources and manpower. You couldn't know if everyone is free from infection.

- Those would be acquired during the searches and raids. Starting equipment would probably consist of simple jackets and sidearms.

- Those can be ordered or a substitute bought at a shop.

- Yep, maintenance would be mandatory.

- They'd be very thoroughly checked. Only small groups would be let in. People showing signs of disease and exerting hostile force would be shot. Quarantining off an area will limit your potential manpower.

- The outposts and HQ would serve as fall back points should an outbreak occur within the perimeter. The HQ will most likely have a hardened fallback point for dire scenarios.

We'd be a well organized zombie hunting machine, man. 8-)

I'd sit back at my computer and just not give much of a care. Weapon shops are too far and few from my house, I have no weapons that have range (besides a rusted out and broken BB gun, but that's useless even if it worked). Oh, and it'd be my luck that the virus is airborne anyways, so going outside is suicide in the first place.

Then I'd eat popcorn while browsing the internet, reading the panic that would ensue. Oh, and The doors in my house would be barricaded. We still got lots of weight in furniture that's available to be moved in the way. Oh, and all the furniture that's not assembled yet work very well too. Then it's a matter of just waiting till food runs low. Then, take to the streets and just drive around until death occurs from the poisoned air. In other words, just live to die the next day.

"To live is to die", as Cliff Burton said.
actually, being a Hunter is so cool, I think that I would suicide just to kill some survivors. really, zombies are funnier than humans. :glare:
I expect to find you guys in a good versus! :D

It can also depend on the scale of the infection, i mean if were talking a massive, worldwide epidemic, then it wouldnt be worth attempting to escape. But if its a 28 days later style one, with only the surrounding area infected, then id try to escape.

First thing i would do is wait for my neighbors to die.. :bye:

Then get the sword, and other sharp tools and kill anything that comes near us.. Not may others worth saving in our part of the world.. if we needed food we would fight our way to the shop or simply eat the food in our garden..

Then when all the zombies have nothing left to eat, and eat each other, we will be the only ones left on earth, we will then enjoy all of earth on our own.. and if humanity dies out, so what.. nature will bring us back if it's worth it, or simply put better creatures in our place... :beee:

I'm sure things wont go like that though... Have you seen "I am Legend".. it would be more like that!! :banghead:

lol my 12 story building have bulletproof doors on ground floor so i can sit at home without worrying them getting inside. But if the food runs out i will put some leather clothes as a weapon i'll take railway stake (its heavy and can break skull easily) and will get in a car which is parked right near the house and ride to the shop that is in 1-2 minutes away, grab everything i need and ride back home. So basically what i will do is wait till zombies die of hunger.

I would make my way down to my father's farm down in southeastern Ohio. It's quite isolated, with probably about 5 people living within the next mile. There's a nice stockpile of weapons, (mainly .22, but there's plenty of shotguns, .223s, and a couple .30s) it's got plenty of food, cats to keep me company, and a nice big house to live in. It even has satellite TV! There's also a gun store on the way down, which will also help.

I would probably bring my friend and my dad with me. My friend also has access to his grandfather's weapons. We would set up defenses such as ditches, concrete walls(maybe, but we have plenty of concrete) and metal spikes.

Then we would just fend off what few zombies there were with the weapons and large amounts of ammo.

I would take my three knives, go to my Dad's, grab his .22 rifles, pellet gun, and whatever food i saw to Lowe's or Home Depot. There i would grab some nail guns, and or a chainsaw and barricade. Then go scavenging. (i'm in scottsdale AZ, not many people where i am) BYAH!

Post subject:  Re: Zombie Survival... Be Prepared!

I have read a bit of the book "How to survive a zombie attack"... So I would do what they suggest (assuming that its not a case of L4D zombies, but the common shamblers).
I would do the following:
1. Run a bath of water and fill up any buckets/cups/plastic boxes/etc
2. Buy all the food I can from my local "Tesco"s (avoiding chilled food, getting food like biscuits (laugh if you will, they will last))
3. Buy earplugs (zombie moans can drive people insane after several days)
4. get every long sharp tool I can find (including my Dad's new Branch cutter (chainsaw on a stick!))
5. take everything upstairs
6. take a door off its hinges and put it on the stairs to reduce friction
7. Charge every mobile in the house and turn them all off but one
8. take the second phone and plug it in upstairs and lock the garage (where the main phone port is, as no-one will be in there zombies will not go after it)
9. I know that I have missed out 2 steps... they would go above this (v1)
10. I know that I have missed out 2 steps... they would go above this (v2)

Raziel

P.S my dad has a lot of tools which could be used as weapons, so I'm set :D

Post subject:  Re: Zombie Survival... Be Prepared!

Gonna revise my previous idea due to the fact that now just about everything is sorted out in this new house... and going on the idea that it's L4D zombies that actually have a chance at killing people...

--

1. Drive to the Academy in the nearby county. Just gotta hope that the 20 miles to there aren't congested... which would be a total chance of luck. Oh, and bringing a backpack.

2. Grab .45 and .38 cal pistols (one of each), plus a few boxes for each caliber. Also, try and get a rifle if they haven't been all taken. Chances are, I'd end up having to rely on just getting lots of pistol stuff. If all possible, also trying to get just extra clips for the pistols I'd get, although they'd probably have to be self-loaded with the boxes of munitions.

3. Get a hiker's pack from the store and place all the munitions in it. Also get a few holsters. And some clothes better suited to carrying things.

4. Go to the nearby food store and try getting just non-perishable things... like pop tarts and a few water bottles. Wouldn't take a whole water bottle box, that's just too much weight to add for a single type of item.

5. Take to the highway and just find a large open area for resting areas, but find a well barricaded area for sleeping rests. Hopefully nothing destroys the vehicle(s?) I took while resting or sleeping...
