I want to meet someone who can. But I'm happy playing fallout on max. It makes me feel accomplished. Actually I looked up my specs and apparently I would be able to play on 'medium to high'. Having never played Crysis, I wouldn't know if that was good or not. |

I can play Crysis on Max (for XP at least) without any problems. I honestly don't see whats so great about Crysis. The ground textures are sickenly low resolution at parts and in general it just doesn't impress me graphically. Not a big fan of the game either... Its just run to small village, pick up North Korean by neck, throw into next North Korean, shoots some other ones, run to next village... Feels way too linear for my tastes. Granted, it is fun to just fire it up and play with the physics objects once in a great while, but I just can't get into it... Games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion look much nicer to me, but UT3 by far is the best looking game to me, hands down. In the end, it doesn't really matter how many fancy features and graphical eyecandy you add to a game, it still boils down to how it is put together and presented. You can have 20,000 different paints and 1,000,000 different brushes, but if you suck at painting, the painting will still suck. |

Actually it will depend on the game engine that you are running with when playing games. Games are optimized to certain graphics card companies, which means the reality is that neither is better unless you tend to play more games that use an engine optimized for the card you use. |

I know that Unreal games rely more on processing power than gfx cards, but they do help. Bethesda games work better with nvidia cards than ATI, and processor speed doesn't matter too much. Fallout runs consistently at 40fps on my pc above; UT3 at 55. Also, I'm gonna have to send back my pc soon. The front casing just broke, but they have no new ones in stock. I'm thinking of custom building- is this more expensive than buying a set one? |

Custom builds are generally MUCH cheaper than a store bought one, plus they don't come with all the extra crapware so common in name brand PCs. |

Crapware? Is that as in software or hardware? |

As in stuff like (shudder) Norton or other crap like that useless program. So yeah, software. |

Ah. I managed to avoid crapware by handing my old 2005 PC over to my uncle, who wiped it and then gave it me back with a single trial copy of ESET Internet security that lasts for another 24,584 days. But I know how bad it can get, because these computers come with things like shitty CD burners that burn about 2mbps and a copy of Napster Client that I deleted even before handing my computer over to my uncle. Looking at prices for custom-builds, I can get around 4GB of RAM, a 2.7GHz quad core and a 512mb nvidia x800 card for around £400. Hard drives cost dirt, and I already have a shell and motherboard. Am I missing anything? |

ATi graphics cards. ![]() But besides the joke, maybe you could look into getting a few more cooling fans. Those always can help out! |

Oh come on, I was joking anyways. But it still really might help if you do get a few cooling fans. |

I'm sure the places that need cooling the most in my computer already have cooling fans...does keeping it colder make it run faster or is it only really useful when overclocking the gfx card? |

Both. The flow of electricity and such is faster with cooler temperatures. Or so my bro once told me (and he now is a programmer for AMD, but that's only sorta besides the point). It also makes it where that the computer won't heat up the room it's in nearly as fast, if at all. ^_^ |

It's times like this when I wish I had some pyrite. If I stuck my computer in a bucket of ice, would it go super fast? I hear they keep huge business servers and NASA supercomputers in specially cooled rooms to make them run faster. Although I don't notice any change in winter. |

Technically it would, until the ice melted! |
