Post subject:  I have a challenge

I am going to make a new weapon for every weapon type... this is a challenge as the only modding I have ever done was on RA2:YR which anyone could mod with if given the right tools...

I have some ideas for the weapons (thankfully they are mostly conventional weapons meaning that they should be easier than my more radical ideas.

1. two short swords for close combat
2. (debating whether or not to make a pistol due to the wide choice already...)
3. E.M.F.G - Electro-Magnetic Flak/Fragmentation Gun
4.
5. VulcanDataStorm (think minigun with inch across bullets)
6.L.I.M.A.R Linear Initiation Magnetic Assault Rifle (a rail AR)
7.
8.
9.rapid fire Grenade Launcher (no name yet)
0. Napalm Mine

So... here is the challenge... is anyone willing to teach me how to make weapons... or give me links to locations where I could get tutorials for Blender and whatever I should use for coding?

P.S yes, I am insane...

Well, this is very cool!

For starters, check out Glosmostinex's very awesome Blender tutorial in the tutorials section of BWCommunity. That should help you get started in modelling.

As for animating, well, you should stick with blender and learn it. I'm attempting to learn animating in Blender right now, actually, I want to completely drop out Maya.

And a tip. Plan on only doing one weapon right now. Get one weapon fleshed out, figure out what it looks like, and make it. Setting your goals lower so you can handle this one step at a time lets you accomplish something, and you can see very clearly your progress. It helps your confidence a bit too, because if you set your sights at tackling all your weapons at once, getting one weapon down is just a small part of the overall goal.

Its all a mental thing, but it makes a difference.

I agree with Xav, start small if you're new.. :naughty:

Streaching yourself too thin is agonizing. :angry-banghead:

Have an overall project, but prioritize your focus.. You'll get the hang of it..

Goodluck!

Thanks for the tips guys.
Don't worry, I'm going to take it slow for this... that was my overall idea of a project, I will be focusing on the VulcanDataStorm first... oh, and I know what you are all thinking but not saying:
yes, these weapons are going to be stupidly powerful... as such I will try to make my own cheats for them and try (just saying this at first as I don't know how at the mo') to exclude them from "reloaded"

Thanks again both of you!

P.S is the name for said mini-gun too ostentatious? I was just going to shorten it to the V.D.S...

I get the 'Vulcan' bit, but the 'DataStorm' is beyond me.

Same here, no idea what a 'data storm' can possibly mean in the context of guns.

The VDS is a six barreled rotatory gun which uses clips of digitized bullets; the bullets are made as normal bullets are and then converted into data using a Data-Storm device. The VDS contains a smaller Data-Storm within the gun which turns the digitized bullets from data to matter and fires them using a LIM system (Linear Initiator Magnets; a hybrid method of firing bullets which mixes the conventional method with that used in rail guns). By converting the bullets into data first the ammo packs are smaller, lighter and less volatile (but more fragile).

In other words, I randomly thought up Data-Storm and liked it so much I kept it for this sort of scenario (using new 3D software and cannot yet make a belt of bullets but wants to make a rotatory MG.)

Malanok

P.S Data-Storm (c) Malanok

N.B I have some concept pictures but I don't want to upload them if nobody is interested... if anyone does want to see them, give us a shout ;)

Woah, the VDS is going to be one power-hungry weapon then.

Sounds like a portable Universal Constructor.

I bet this gun would be more efficient just using its energy offensively ala E-23. ;)

depends on wheter or not you want to kill yourself by overheating or not (a side affect which the VDS does not have).

...
but yes, it is a power hungry gun, as it was originally designed for a shoulder mounted weapon from Malanok (which will probably mean nothing to any of you...) and therefore energy is not a problem, whereas storage for the ammo is.

However I can get around this by simply saying that the energy to build the bullets is taken from turning the mass into data in the first place (which would also be digitized), therefore only requiring a few batteries to start the DataStorm.

P.S anyhoo, I am still struggling with blender (been through the tutorials and I'm still terrible at it...) if only there where a .des to .blend converter *sighs*
