So, I just did my first CRT monitor repair... kinda. It was actually quite simple. After I did some researching about how to fix an image screen that is out of focus, I learned that I could just use a screwdriver to adjust the flyback transformer inside. I could even access it after just taking off the plastic case; no need to expose the electronics under the EM(?) shield. I simply used a screwdriver to turn the 2 adjusting screws on the flyback transformer and I coudl easily sharpen the image. However, the image on the screen still looks a little washed out, but I'm comparing that to my LCD monitor, so I think that's just because it's a CRT.
So, moral to the story, if you have a CRT monitor that's getting kinda fuzzy, it's not necessarily trash. You could have the image sharpened in 10 minutes.

Oh, thats cool. I just got rid of a whole slew of them myself (about 8 or so?) because we just loaded up on a bunch of cheap LCD monitors at my College's Surplus um... stuff sale. I personally got 4 monitors for $50, my family get more for themselves.

The monitors went to Good Will, so hopefully someone will be able to use them. :)

I like my upgrade from one old CRT (that seemed to periodically get fuzzy and unfuzzy at times, likely fixable in a manner you described) to two LCDs. :p

Its a good thing I switched too, this desk was starting to buckle under the immense weight of my CRT. :D

Anyways, that's pretty cool how easy it is to fix them. I'm sure this skill will probably come in handy someday for me. :)
