Here's the deal. Some guys came round to the school offering the chance of an expedition to somewhere. When I heard it was to Iceland, I signed up immediately. Now I have the task of raising £1400 to go. So, apart from my getting a job, which I've already looked into, does anyone have any ideas, be they whacked-out or entrepreneurial, of how I can raise some fundz for the trip?

right, here are a few (most are terrible but that's what you get fr copying our school) 1. sponsored run/silence/etc 2. Cake sale (you don't have to buy the cakes, people at school will pay OTT for any cake at school since Jamie Oliver (assuming you live in UK due to "£" sign instead of "£")) 3. School lottery (people buy a ticket for £1 and the winner gets half of the total money gained) 4. hire/buy a costume and charge people 50p to have a photo taken with you (again sounds weird but it works) 5. "sponge the teacher" get several of the most hated or loved teachers to accept and you are onto a winner; all you need is buckets, sponges and a lot of water... 6. Mufty day (but it maybe hard to convince the school to donate profits to your cause) 7. WARNING This one is stupid but works. Sponsored leg wax, people pay £1 to watch... the guy who did it earned £350 from that alone (and didn't need to shave for a while XD) 8. if you can lay your hands on a couple of fat suits then get the some teachers to sumo wrestle, £1 entry and £__ for a DVD recording of it 9. it coming up to Christmas, so why not wrap peoples present for a charge? they did it where I am last year and made a fair bit (they set up in the middle of a shopping center tho... you may struggle to organize it...) 10. rent yourself out as a handyman. If so your target audience is elderly people Mal P.S hope this helps! |

back in my school days, i didn't really care about fund raising. but the only thing that springs to mind when i hear "Fundraiser" is a bake sale. Also: Curse you Bjossi, mocking us for not having the privilege of living on a Generally Snowy European Island.

Bjossi wrote: Na na nana na. ![]() I forgot you live in Iceland! Well if I raise the money, we get 1 day in Reykjavik to acclimatise and then go on a 6-day trek into the middle of the country. As I understand, we stop at the Myrdalsjokull and Eyjafjallajökull ice caps, the Markaflot River and the Lifrarjoll mountain. If they look that cool on Google then they'll be even better in real life!

Sounds exciting. Though I don't travel out of Reykjavík very often. Tyster wrote: Green Christmas? Eeeeewwwww. I disagree, sadly christmases here are more often snowy than not. But I never really hinted at this scenario in the first place, trying to read between the lines are we? If you like snow, you'd have a better time visiting Greenland as far as I know. |

It is usually only snowy for a few months each year, last year we had pretty thick layers of snow but some years there is hardly any snow during the entire winter. Just a hit or miss more or less. Right now there is not any snow to be seen anywhere in Reykjavík, we got a thin layer of it the other day but it melted quickly. |

That doesn't sound too far off from Michigan. We just got a wee bit of snow in parts of the state last weekend, but its all gone. And we got a hell of a lot of snow last year. |

Santa Claus in the southern hemisphere suffers due to the summer I would love to have snow here. But heh, It would be better when I was a kid, so I could play like in the movies. Now, If we had snow, I would probably help to remove the snow :-/ Well, I would also like to go to Iceland. Actually, visit every European country. I love Europe. On-topic, like ShadowBlade said, maybe sell something you don't use. |

Snowed heavily in England in February. The whole country ground to a halt. It might have been on your news. Update on money status: thanks to my massive clear-out, I raised £178. I now have £722. |
