Post subject:  Still alive!

I finally got my account working again and am surprised to see that I am still one of the top posters here after being inactive for... a year or more? haha
If i had Windows and a working copy of UT3 I would definitely be playing some Crucible or BW UT3(the mutators i believe).

So yeah, whats new around here? I see Crucible is moving to the UDK and I have even played around with some of the community weapon packs for BW2004(spectacular stuff coming out of the community).

I don't really have much to say, I'm enlisted in the Air Force(waiting to go to basic training) and am currently attending community college for this semester. I still do a little 3D but haven't gotten into anything serious yet, my motivation comes and goes very quickly. Distracted with training, school work, friends, work, and the occasional girlfriend drama(well single now anyways). Part time work blows btw, gotta pay the bills though!

I haven't been gaming much lately, although the time I have been has been spent on Bad Company 2 which i find more attractive than Modern Warfare 2 in certain areas. This is on the PS3, I need to get a new computer... tired of having to play on low res or detail with my mac thats few years of age. Feel free to donate so i may join you guys ;)

Hows everyone been? Who's come and gone?
Just saying hello,
James

Hey! Great to hear from you again! How's the Air Force working out for you?

Glad you're enjoying the Community weapon packs. I bet if you sent Sgt. Kelly a PM he could set you up with a nice honorary Beta tester position for his mod. ;)

Hello and welcome back! So you're in the Air Force? Good luck man! I've got a buddy who's applying for the Air Force Academy this very moment, and Kaboodles recently left to join the army as well! :) It's always nice to hear from somebody serving their country.

We've had some exciting things going on with community and crucible content, though other than that most things have remained the same. We got some new members, lost some old members, I crashed a car, RS got a Facebook page, etc. etc. The forums and main page both got some pretty sweet overhauls, though.

And if you're interested I can totally shoot you a link to some bonus community content, though I must warn you most of it is rather incomplete. :P

Hey! Good to see you again :)

Well we're busy as usual, won some stuf at the MSUC, and are busy with a Crucible to UDK port. It's taking a bit of time, but it should be worth it :) BE is almost entirely responsible for the port, i'm doing some of the content work like maps and such :)

We're upto some other tricks as well, as DC may have mentioned a couple of weeks back, but info on that will come soon :)

Anyway, in the words of Dutch: "Stick around!"

Welcome back James. You were a pretty big loss for the RS devs, as you were their only "Mac puppet" so to speak.

And as for who has come and left, there have been some new folks, some from BWC when it got merged into the main forum and then newcomers that say hello and actually post more than the hello thread. One notable person who is no longer posting is UglyPants, I could tell by the much fresher smell in here.

Nice to see your still kickin it around here man. I'm told i should see basic around August but who knows, they haven't even lined me up with a assignment yet lol. I should be good to work on air craft, missiles, or work with network security type stuff(computer or electronic maintenance in general). So yeah, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that i get something that will get me set up for a successful future. Everyone I've talked to has been very supportive and have had nothing negative to say about the air force besides the occasional "YOU'RE GOING TO GET SENT TO AFGHANISTAN!!!"(no i really wont or plan on it). I'll keep you guys updated for sure, like i said I'm working out and training a lot for basic(I don't believe it will be too hard to be honest but hey i wouldn't really know).

Thanks for the support! I don't believe i thought about the academy early enough, i hear you have to start preparing in junior high to have a good chance of getting in. Best of luck to your friend though, it would be a real experience to get in there and then getting to go in as an officer.
So kaboodles hasn't really posted here since he left for the army? I wish him the best though, I'm sure hes doing great there.

I saw RS's facebook page, i will have to become a fan soon! The forums are looking sharp too, i like the layouts a lot.
Sorry to hear about your car... glad to see that you're alive and well though! what kind was it if i may ask?

And of course i would like the try out some of the community bonus content, Ballistic Weapons is a bit laggy on my comp sense the later updates(hitches without loss of frame rate...) but i can still play and mess around with mods and everything. I feel like its too late for me to report mac bugs for UT2004, or maybe my comp really just is showing old age.

I'm very proud and happy of you guys... you've really done it! haha
Best of luck to the RS team, seeing a retail/standalone game would be a real milestone for you all!

I still remember the days before BW Gold edition... good times :]

Hey Bjossi! I didn't realize i was a big loss :-[
If i could test The Crucible on my mac or at all i would, UT3 never came to mac after being promised three whole damn years ago. I stopped worrying about it and when i get a new computer I'm definitely going to find a way to test for you guys again(whether its mac or windows based OS).

What happened to UglyPants? Are you saying its good that he left? lol

Also nice to see you blade sword and grizzlykiller :]
Feels good to be back indeed.

Yeah, my buddy's been keeping his grades up and chatting with the local congressmen so that they can put a good word in for him. I hope he gets in because he's excited about it. Maybe you'll see him there one day. :) He's aiming to be a pilot, and I think Kab's in the army as a medic. What section are you aiming for?

The crashed car was a Suzuki XL7 Luxury SUV, by the way. I'm really bummed that I lost it, though I'm extremely thankful that it saved my life in what would normally be a lethal broadside accident. I shut down mod work for a while due to the stress, but things are speeding up again.

Also, check your PM inbox for a link to the beta! Enjoy! :)

There is also a gnome in there. He will mine metals and stuff for you if you keep him happy. He eats granola.
You better keep him in a cage during nights though.

this is going to sound strange but James are you AVGN Angry Video Game Nerd?

A Mac user can't be a video game nerd without the help of Boot Camp.

Post subject:  Re: Still alive!

Haha, nope I'm not James Rolfe(however you spell his last name). Very funny video game reviews though!

So i played around with the community content a little...
Some of the Weapon sounds don't play on my mac(weapon firing mostly), i've had this problem with other UT2004 mods as well(I'm guessing the program used to export the sounds doesn't go well with my computer or some other nonsense). Ballistic Weapons has also become unplayable on my computer as well, it hitches terribly... not lag or low fps... the mod just stutters randomly.

Cool weapons and work, I really admire the work and creativity put into the pack. I just wish i could enjoy it as it was intended to play.
Oh well, I might be getting a new comp soon...

Anyways, thanks all for the kind words and warm welcome(return) 8)

Post subject:  Re: Still alive!

Quite a difference there i'd say, paleotologist or canadian army reserve, guesse they are the reserve though...

Which would you prefer?, being a paleotologist sounds alot more fullfilling, at least thats how i see it..

Hey hey!

Good to see you still around. You were one of the first posters on the site.

Things should be getting a bit more interesting here at RS in the not too distant future...

Good luck in the air force! :handgestures-thumbupright: I really do hope the bosses like you enough to let you come back alive and all intact...

I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever choice you end up making, paleontology sounds very interesting.

Thankd DC, I'll be fine haha.
I'm running and hitting the gym everyday, I'll be ready for basic training when i get there.
You guys should fill me in on the big plans ;)

I sure hope you like the color red, because that's all you're gonna see for a while. Man, nothing quite like turning something trying to kill you into a fine red mist and body parts. I mean in game of course. Can't wait for the new thing to come out.

... though I don't own UT3.
