Ahem, I beg to differ. Deus Ex is totally the numbah 1. The Serious Sam 2 HD pack thing just came out recently, by the way. You can get it on Steam. |

Deus Ex number 1 to me as well, the depth of this game is only nearly equaled by only a few games. But in the domain of the super brutal shooters Serious Sam is my personal fav, to me it's a bit like Duke Nukem. I mostly loved the second encounter witch is one of the bests I liked some other games like painkiller and will rock but willrock is a but mediocre despite having some good wacky weapons The only thing that I find lacking is the lack of games like Deus Ex, SOF, Duke Nukem and Unreal 1 ... |

To avoid confusion, you're talking about The Second Encounter, Serious Sam 2 is a different game entirely that won't need a graphical overhaul in the near future. I will wait for Sam HD: TSE to drop in price before buying it. I got the first HD release for only $6.79 iirc, during a weekend sale. These two are actually my first ever digital purchases. I'd have gotten them retail if the retail copies weren't so bloody expensive and rare. |

got the demo, tons of fun for how short it is. My issue is the reviews for it, there is a lot of mixed reviews for the series in general. What? do people not like old school gaming or is it just that they never been really raised on the stuff to comprehend how seriously awesome Serious Sam is.(opps looks like a made a serious pun )

That's a bit that there is people who hate games where you run n'gun, to me those games are fun and mostly fun. To me TSE is is perhaps the best serious sam ever made. there is a lack of those old school FPS, just look how much games in the vein of quake 1 exists today? To me Unreal 1 was the best of that vein, but the genre seems to be dead. |

Yeah, I think 'fun' in games is often overlooked in favour of sticking to popular trends... I still play quake sometimes. It would be nice if they had advanced that vein of games. Most FPS don't have the fun traps and interactive environments. |

Yeah, I think they lack exactly of the things you are talking about. Interactive environments, A thing I loved in Deus Ex, Duke Nukem 3D, Thief, System shock 2, Half life 1 & 2, Shadow warrior, Blood1 & 2 Sin & Wages of Sin and Stalker That's one of the things that gave a lot of charm in those first person shooters, an other thing is the functional mirrors, first made in Duke nukem I believe, the first time I can spend time in front of a random mirror and hear, "Damn, I'm looking good!" And yeah they lack also of traps witch can be useful and very funny. Also I find often that games lacks of fun weapons, sometimes we have a flamethrower, or a rocket/grenade launcher, but rarely wacky weapons like a freeze thrower, a Big freaking gun, a nuclear weapon, a microwave gun, a shrinker, a disk thrower, nailguns, spear guns, laser weapons, acid guns, vortex cannons, black hole guns, lightning guns, railguns, cerebral bores, sticky grenades/bombs, Napalm cannons, gravity guns, Rocket propelled chainsaws! and many many more weapons. And not all FPS have fun weapons ... An other thing is the lack of gore shooters, SOF was memorable for that aspect. but since the trend is making corridor shooters with real guns, that's what they often do. :/ I think there should be more variety instead of just sticking with a same trend. |

I agree. Most FPSs, especially multiplayer, only test your aiming ability. They don't have traps or anything like that anymore... The gameplay mechanics of most games are very basic and not very interesting (at least in MP). |

That's because they doesn't try to make an usage of player's creativity. Using the physics, being able to make traps, having destructible environments, some interactivity, can make the gameplay more interesting. Having weapons that can be tools can be great and even the contrary tools that are weapons as well

yeah most fps like Bad company 2 now a days kinda make me wish i bought Serious Sam HD, or I just go back to playing AVP. Most critics now , as always bash these games to no extent and ticks me off alot , even though I shouldn't care much about what they say its their opinion they seem to forget that alot of the run and gun franchises really help shape FPSes and they seem to forget that alot. |

To me my main complaint it's the fact that most shooters lacks of fun wacky weapons Actually new games have a lot of potential with the physics and we can get weapons to do so, but often game developers just wants to be an other advertisers for fire arms companies ... |
