That's just a question about what you might think of him. |

I don't know too much about him. He makes nice maps though. |

I'm with Sarge on the first part, but of the ones I played I found his maps to be all graphics and no gameplay. |

Do you mean that his level design is poor in that therms ? |

I mean that he sacrifices attention to gameplay to make the maps look as bloated as possible, like many of the official maps in the UT2 & 3 games. |

Hums, that's perhaps why UT99 had the best feeling over the sequels, I tried even to see from who are made my favorite maps in the game and rare are the maps from Cliff are the ones I use to play. I also always misunderstood why they never added the ripper into the sequels, that weapon even if it wasn't my fav had that "calculable" bouncing that make it a lot interesting to use even if in outdoors that's not a great weapon. |

I agree, older games more often had better gameplay in their maps, something which is quite rare these days.. As for Cliff, his older maps were better gameplay-wise, but he's still a very good mapper, been there since Unreal1, good old days!.. |

Isn't he quite high up in the ranks there? Like design director or something? Anyway, I agree that his maps weren't the best, but they were OK. And I hear he doesn't want to be called CliffyB anymore. Side note - the best mapper in my opinion is Pancho Eekels, who made the Hall of Giants map for UT99. If he's out there: much love. |

Hall of Giants? Don't you mean Lava Giant? I loved that map Cliff.. He's ok. I guess i'll remebmer him more for being on the original Epic for Unreal 1 than anything else |

Hmm, I personally didn't like Hall of Giants too much. Totally loved Lava Giant though. That was an awesome one. My favorite mapper is whoever did the original Deck-16. What a great level. |

Unreal 1 & UT99 will forever be remembered as epic's best games, since then they havn't quite made a game that was as good as a whole... |

I agree, for me the modern Epic could be called Epic Fail Games (They used to be called Epic Megagames years ago.). |

Well, I can hold out for them making UT4 better than the others even if it's going to take them years to do it. And I don't care who maps, but we need a Deck, a HyperBlast, a LavaGiant, a HallofGiants and a Morpheus. And possibly a Crane or a Coret, but only time permitting. |

Tom10320 wrote: but we need a Deck, a HyperBlast, a LavaGiant, a HallofGiants and a Morpheus. And possibly a Crane or a Coret What exactly do you mean? An exact replica of these maps or a re-imagination of their base concept? Either way there are only so many times you can reinvent the wheel before it becomes utterly redundant. My dream UT4 is a game that will finally make the guns sound deadly again, a game whose maps have sensible amount of details, etc. I don't mind if none of my favorite maps won't be there, I will be happy to keep an open mind and introduce myself to new favorites. The old UT will always be there, including all the old favorite maps and the awesome sound effects, when I decide to go on nostalgia trips to 1999 (Man that year kicked ass.). Of course there is the question when it finally loses to the constantly on-going technology advancements, but I think the community has that covered by making unofficial patches. |

I don't know why they even reduced the amount of weapons To me in therms of level design they have to use some tricks to provide a certain level of gameplay. They can use portals, jump pads, decks, mobile parts, cables, translocators, gravity (low, orientation), trapped rooms, etc ... |

Guess you'll have to wait for the newer planned versions of the Crucible... As for Cliff, I don't know enough about him to have a propper opinion. What I have heard seemed positive to me. As a game dev, it may be useful to listen to what he says. |

Yeah hes good but I'm a little be disgruntled about him since this little article below http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/02/ ... or-update/ but thats old anyways Honestly hes been hoarding a little too much attention with the Gears of war series in my oppinion. |

That's the problem to me, too much attention is ported into the GOW series. I didn't know about this, but this confirms my own perception of the Epic's direction... |
