Blizzard is banning people for using cheats and trainers on the single player game.

That is unexeptable. multiplayer, yeah, i can understand that, but single player? hell no! people are being locked out of game they legally own because they're using cheats on a game mode that doesn't effect anyone else! i'm joining the boycott against bilzzard!

Thats just absurd!

Some people have said "try not cheating -.-" and things along those lines, my reply is simple. People should be allowed to play the game how they like, at least on single player. They might not be up to "your standards" of gaming, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have fun does it?

Cheating on singleplayer definitely shouldn't be a bannable offense. You're buying the game for your own personal use and you should be able to play it however you like!

That really does suck. Its single player.... come on Blizzard, take a chill pill. Dont turn into EA and make single player games (Battlefield series) cheat proof, that removes about a fifth of the fun.

Well, I'm technically boycotting lots of game companies atm by simple virtue of not buying any games

Damn publishers have their fingers in everything these days, preventing many nice features from other games, and thats not cool!...

Blizzard publish their own games however, and they clearly take the same approach, still this is the way business is done in order to survive in this world, that I don't like.....

Woah, thats lame. I thought better of Blizzard. I don't bother with cheats, but it is wrong to deny people access to a product they paid for when they haven't harmed or affected anyone else.

Blizzard has gone down a bit as a reasonable company in my eyes...

I would say that the post-merger Activision/Blizzard company is almost as bad as EA Games as far as mega game companies go.

I just hope Valve doesn't turn out like them.

A system like this can easily backfire as well if someone else has access to your computer/account and happens to like the game (like a sibling or a friend who comes over often). I had my Steam account banned because apparently someone had cheated online with it according to VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat system). I would have given my brother a big plate of knuckle sandwiches if this had meant I could not enjoy the games registered to that account at all anymore, but thankfully I am only banned from MP (worthless to me) and can't add new games to the account.

What did he do to get you banned?

I for one HATE steam it forces you to install it and it pops up all the time AND you have to register to it to play the games you bought!
normally you install a game enter the cd code and enjoy, not with steam you have to register to steam read a massive list of rules ad regulations then enter the cd code and enjoy
it should be OPTIONAL to install steam

Something that Literally Drives me mad is when game companys make games for only one console!
so you read up on that game and you like it but suddenly its only out for the xbox or ps3!
alan wake is a massive example they said it was going to be for the xbox 360 pc and ps3 but now its only for the xbox 360!!
and burnout paradise is annoying too, they brought out the ultimate box for the pc but then didnt make any dlc's for the pc again!
i was looking foward to big surf island but now i cant enjoy it because EA didnt even have the common courtisy to include the pc!!!!

In business (and most other things), people do whatever they can to get what they want. Big companies' decisions are based on what they think will make them the most money, they don't give a shit about you, they just want to get your cash. If you are a minority of the market, there are less products meant to be good for you. You got two choices: (a) follow the masses and make the changes you're told to or (b) support the developers that make things the way you like em and bother to make something intended for you.
Smaller developers are more likely to actually care about the games they make and the players that play them.

Generally developers, big and small, do love and care about their work. Do not confuse publishing and development, they are two completely different stages of making a game. You pitch an idea to a publisher, if they like it they will fund the project, and as soon as a contract is signed you just made yourself the publisher's bitch. The publisher will control the flow of the project, set deadlines, decide on DRM, etc.

If you want a game but disagree with the publishing ethics behind it (like if it has nasty DRM), you can wait until it hits the bargain bin. At that point the retailer has lost interest in the game and will not buy another shipment from the publishers, and all your money will go to the retailer anyway. So you and the retailer win, while the publisher gets none of your green love.

Looking at CoD MW 2's budget. 75% of it went to marketing and that says it all..

Publishers are right up there on the "assholes that try to screw you" list, thats why steam is much better for the developer, but unfortunately worse for the customer....

Publishers take your excellent product, tell you to f**k it up, then take your profits and squander it on fancy chairs and intercom systems to chat to their buddies in the office about their last golf match, this is a common trait between all big business tycoons and monopolies....

Then you the developers are left with a 'slightly' fuller purse and an empty feeling after working for months/years on a project that you originally loved.....

Perhaps I did sound like I was condemning ALL larger companies, not quite what I meant. I still believe there are a few large developers that are not all about the money. I also cannot completely condemn all publishers, some of them are, in part, a necessary evil. Game development is still a business and someone needs to look out for the bottom line, but it seems that a lot of people have forgotten the game side of things. There certainly are a lot of people only interested in money and a lot of games made purely for this reason. CoD's dev vs marketing budget figures say quite a lot... (As if the game length didn't)

And it's those good publishers and so on, that are the ones you need....

Well, you DO need some publisher types when making games. Without them, the developers will keep on adding more and more stuff, swallowing money and never reaching a finished product. You need someone there to give them some deadlines.

What the bloody hell makes you think that? These people are professionals, not kids on ADHD. Of course if an incompetent, indecisive moron has the final word on when stuff is done it will be tweaked to the infinity, George Broussard is a good example of this.

Publishers are necessary because they fund a project and handle manufacturing and publishing costs which only the absolute biggest developers could handle otherwise, as we are talking about millions of dollars for the typical blockbuster title. Many games get canceled or frozen because no publisher wants to pick them up or the developer is not willing to accept the conditions the publisher offers.

We'll have no problem sticking to our own deadlines, products have an end....

Publishers have their place, as annoying as it is...

But we're all agreed that publishers are dicks?
