Does it work? I'll have to upgrade my system because of Battlefield 3, but I'd like to play UT2004 too. |

Caveats of using UT2004 on Win7 (x64 here): Built-in lag. I've tried XP on this PC and another and I play far better on XP than on Win7. The faster-paced the game, the more you'll suffer this, but if you're not good enough to notice it it doesn't really matter. If you're using a Creative sound card, you will get a blue screen of death if you don't use the system driver. This limits you to 2.1 sound. This is because functions are called by the non-system driver that don't exist any more in 7. |

Not true about the sound card. I have a Creative XFi Xtreme Audio, and it works perfectly fine on all UT2004 audio configurations. (Granted, I only use it with 2 speakers and 5.1 headphones.) |

I'm using an X-Fi Titanium with latest drivers. Hardware 3D Audio or higher with System Driver off BSODs the system in x64 at least. |

I'm using Win7 x64 with an old X-Fi Fatal1ty. I do have ALchemy installed as well though. |

Dammit. I wonder if it's specific to the Titanium version. |

I do have one thing to say, when playing on my windows 7 machine I have found I can play in a window by booting the game then clicking on another window (such as skype)... didn't work on my XP but works on this, don't know why ^^; Mal P.S I prefer to play in a window now ^w^ |

Yeah, I do that too sometimes. The only problem is that if you decide to switch back to fullscreen your motion blur will break. |

What in hell are you talking about, I've played plenty of fast paced games in UT2004 and I don't get lag. |

Once again, agreeing with Nemephosis. My Windows 7 install runs UT2004 perfectly smoothly at an absurdly high FPS with 32x AA forced and over 131 ballistic weapons in play. The only problem I have with UT2004 is it stupidly thinking that 100+ guns ticking at one time is an infinite loop and then crashing the game. |

I *might* be wrong on this, but I don't think Epic ever thought 130 weapons would be used at once...

It's still an artificial limit. Those have no reason to exist, you might as well choose absurdly high limits for the variables while writing the engine and the game's scripts. |

To put it another way: if you don't know the initial spawn and respawn times of all the pickups in UT2004 off the top of your head, then you're not the kind of player I would expect to notice. It's input lag - a slight but noticeable delay from when you shoot and when the shot comes through. Compounded with ping and reaction time, it can make the difference between hit and miss. If you're playing normal 2k4 against good players with shock and lg, you will notice. If you're using flak and rockets, or if you're playing BW, you won't really notice, which is why I don't switch to XP when I play BW - compared to 7, the colours are horrible. I'm using a ViewSonic VX2268vm @ 120hz so it certainly ain't my screen, and I don't play with VSync because that WILL give you input lag of almost 250ms. Of course, all this crap could be unique to my system, but I highly doubt it as others have complained both of Creative crashes and of UT2k4 input lag ^_^ Edit: http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/s ... hp?t=28923 It affects any Creative card with an X-Fi chip. Happy? |

Looks like it's only a problem for 64-bit users. I'm glad I put my soundcard in a 32-bit install of Windows 7 then. |

I myself play Ut2004 fine on Win 7, but sometimes in the editor I have screwed dialogs (like Surface Properties). |

Happy? Then it's not really a Windows 7 problem, it's a Creative X-Fi problem. That makes a rather huge difference when you're describing a problem and wondering why others who use the same OS don't have a clue what you're talking about.
