Yikes. I don't think it'll cost you a finger, but watch it. As for the swelling, find some aloe vera or other bite relief medicine to apply to the area, take a benidryl or other anti-allergy medicine, and apply some ice to the swelling.

I would recommend getting a pair of leather work gloves to help protect you from this happening again.

Hog Nosed Snake's venom isn't life threatening, but I agree with Xavious, put it on ice and wait about three days and the swelling should go down.

Why in the world would you feed a snake by hand? C'mon man! Common sense! Snakes are predators and you are big tasty prey. Drop the food in next time and try to refrain from petting it.

snakes are predators when they are hungry or are startled apart from that there actually quite tame although i caught him at the wrong time i guess.

my hand is quite big and still hurts he must have bit me 20 times before he was taken off 20 times TO THE BONE btw

im still going to keep him and im just going to use a glove to feed him and pet him from now on until at least i can trust him again.

I'd do what Kelly says and just drop the food into the tank where the snake is. Better safe than sorry.

i guess so,

thanks for the advice guys :)

if it gets any more swelled up im going to go to the hospital to see what to do.

but i dont really want to give my snake away because i like watching him on a night.

but i do think im going to take him to a trainer of some kind.

Can always trade for a non-venomous snake.

The swelling should go down in a couple of days.

In case, don't worry if some white or yellowish liquid comes out. That's sebum, human's natural oil.

According to Wikipedia, hognose snakes are.. "not apt to bite".
Either, you caught your snake at a really bad time, or you pissed him off that bad.... >.>

Post subject:  Re: Snake Bite

if your referencing that i was cruel to him then im not i was giving him some water and he jumped for me and bit me,

he is more active at night so i think he was hungry and i smelt like food,

or i think i might have startled him when i put his water in.

anyway the swelling is staying at my wrist at the moment and it gets a little painful when i lift it above me head.

I never said that!
All I said was that you may have made him mad.
My cats seem to get mad all the time, yet I take very good care of them.

Who knows how the minds of animals work?

i know what you mean ;D

i have a cat that is just stubborn.

she always expects her food IN FRONT OF HER.
and then she wont go out of the cat flap so we have to keep the window open.

I think he is active at night so he looks for food and must have got confused.
