My dad just got one powerful virus on his computer Win 7 antispyware 2012! Posing as an antispyware, trying to get money out of him! This thing stopped him using exe files, made almost constant pop ups appear and would not let him use the internet claiming that it was a risk to his security! Thankfully i had my laptop on me so we cracked it open and hit up google for an answer! we managed to remove it but it left behind a nasty little surprise for us, it changes the inner workings on windows so that all exe files open the virus instead, with the virus gone, windows could no longer run exe files at all! nothing would open! Internet to the rescue again and i managed to get a fix for it and now everything is ok, apart from all icons having the internet explore icon instead of their own... Whats the worst virus you guys have had? |

Thanks to being a smart user I have not seen a virus on my machines in years, and neither has the anti-malware software I run in the background anyways just in case. |

I have Malwarebytes and Avast. Tho, the only problem I got was Win7 kept creating temp accounts, instead of logging me in... But I think that's taken care of. |

My old XP computer got quite a share of Viruses. But that did teach me how to reformat computers after getting a particularly nasty one. |

Yeah, I had that same damn virus. I had to look up some registry edits to defeat it and then finished the job with that Malwarebytes thing. My laptop has Norton on it, which periodically deletes my internet cookies. |

I've never experienced malware penetration with a Seamonkey + Noscript + Adblockplus/Spybot S&D/MBAM/COMODO Internet Security setup. brain.exe I recommend too, especially when you start it with the /cautious parameter. My worst virus i've had? Michelangelo, which is relatively oldschool when all it cares about is nuking your floppies' boot sectors. This one was huge in 1994, it was the bane of the sneakernets. EVEN SOFTWARE STORES HAD THIS ONE! |

I get an occasional ad ware, but trend and webroot always catch viruses. Back when my kids also used my computer, that was another story, they downloaded everything that was free. OMG I was on a first name bases with tech support. |

Well, in my case i got a virus on my computer which took away the icons and the taskbar, which meant i had to use the operating system with the run program, nasty little B*****ds People who make viruses are just low lifes who have nothing and just take pleasure in wrecking other peoples things. Worlds full of them though. |

I nearly got that Windows Security Virus from a banner ad. That virus is a pain to remove once the user is infected... Thankfully, I cut power to my computer once it popped up, killing it swiftly (and causing my bad hard drive to spasm a bit, preventing me from booting up. )<Quad> |

I've gotten viruses which required me to reformat on two occasions. In both cases, they basically screwed up Windows (one of them deleted the files required for proper login - which makes very little sense, really, seeing as it can't spread worth a crap). Both of these cases, however, were when I had McAfee. Which sucks really, really badly, so get something else instead (I'm using ZoneAlarm right now). Oh, and I remember someone creating a CPUNuke virus which fatally overclocked processors. I don't think it works anymore, which is probably a good thing. |

Modern processors have enough fail saves to make that very difficult today. Hardware-based security is the strongest computers have to offer. |

So sad.I think I should've clarified that this clever virus was hidden in an ad and as soon as it loaded in your browser (just like any typical ad), BAM. You get hit. This was on newgrounds or some other site I visit... I think it's called a rogue banner ad... The thing is, all I did was load the web page for the site I browse frequently. --------------------------------------- Speaking of viruses... there is a new virus out there called Popureb.E which messes up the windows MBR and almost requires fixing the MBR along with a reformat. Having to redo the MBR was a real pain in the ass for my new Hard Drive (I was not infected, but I needed to do this since the old MBR was on a dead Hard Drive) http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9217953/Rootkit_infection_requires_Windows_reinstall_says_Microsoft |

Yeah, these days its not so much "open the dodgy looking email to receive prices!" With a clever bit of coding you don't even have to click it, as soon as the virus is loaded on the webpage its on you computer! |
