They're dark, they're ominous, they're large, they're purple??.. :shock:

Monsters, they come in many shapes, sizes, and forms, each has something unique... :)

They may be slimy and black, they may be purple with green drips, or they may be well dressed blue aliens with strange overheating rifles... ;)

But, what is the best monster out of all the evil imaginings of the gaming world?.. Describe the best monster you've come across... :)

Personally I'd go with the Strider from HL2: Large, well designed, full of character, epic, and totally awesome!.. :D

Internet: Slender Man the lack of detail makes him what he is.

Game: The Elder God Lurking out of sight, feeding on those who worship him and making false promises...

Ohh, Doom! Cyberdemon, Revenant, Arch-Vile! Arachnotron, Mancubus and Baron of Hell. mmm

Also, the Unreal 1 Skaarj's and the Half-Life series has some cool monsters (Hunter, Strider, Bull-Chicken).

Quake 1 also had the Shambler and the Vore was quite cool too.

And the Serious Sam 'WereBull' and Kamikaze were very cool.

Aaah, the Mancubus, what a delightful yet gross sack of greasy flesh, one of the best deaths of any monster still to this day, despite its archaic appearance it really gets the point across, *squelch!... ;)

Doom was full of them, but the Cyberdemon really stood out for me. For starters, he was huge and could kill you in a second or two. Scary stuff there. Second, IT. JUST. WON'T. DIE.

It took me a while to figure out how to kill it. After emptying 40 rockets into it I was thinking there had to be some trick to killing him, maybe lure him into a trap or something. Nope. Just took another 50 or so rockets. Damn tough to kill with no gimmicks to it. Just a hell of a lot of health. I can respect that.

The Tentacles in the rocket silo is HL1. The way the just hammered around, smashing everything to bits... and you had to throw grenades so distract them. I'll never forget that. Also, the big blue thing in the tunnel that you had to kill with lighting, can't remember what it was called, but that was awesome too!

Ichtyosaurus from Half Life and Half life 2, those things are scarier than hell.
