Use a password. A good one. A good one that you haven't used on previous accounts. A good one that you haven't used on previous accounts that isn't easy to guess. Don't give people your details. Ever. If you sign up to something, make sure you know what it is. |

The most important attribute of a password is its length, whether it contains numbers, letters and/or misc characters is almost irrelevant when computers are involved. |

finally all my accounts are back to normal, all me emails have new paswords, now i just gotta get me a shotgun and go hunt down these effing gold sellers and teach them where the woodshed is :)(: |

Do as my housemate does: 1. get an old keyboard/cheap keyboard 2. plug in and go into notepad 3. throw said keyboard against walls etc until you have something over 32 characters long 4. enjoy the randomness! N.B best for things you don't have to constantly enter... network passwords for example =P Mal P.S that is actually quite off thread now I read it again... |

What exactly do you think randomness accomplishes in terms of password strength? You can easily construct a 32-character password you easily remember. |

One of the key features of a strong password is one you can store in your mind, a password constructed from sequence of characters you associate with something is far far easier to remember. |

Actually, it helps a lot if you don't use words in dictionaries or common and easy to remember phrases. The strongest passwords are like the one I posted above, with nonstandard characters and no discernible patterns. The hacker is not the one cracking your password - it's his program, and his program will first run it against the dictionary and the 'idiot passwords' like password, abc123, etc. My passwords are all messes of characters like f9#,dLI1p6, and while they take a bit of time to remember, they're impossible to guess and will give diction based algorithms a run for their money. |

You also need to watch your surfing habits, where and who you give your info to. Bate on a hook will attract fish. |

What appears to one person as a random string of characters can have a meaning to it for you personally. That is how I remember my 27-character "nonsensical" passwords with ease. |
