As the title suggests, this is quite different.
I decided to make a chainmail shirt... out of can tabs.

I figured since the guys here are interested in add stuff, I'd show you all what I thought to do in boredom.

And, well, being homeschooled gives me a lot of extra time... >.>
(Since it's far from completed, I thought it wasn't worthy of the Showcase section)

And in case anyone is interested further, this is what I'm following from:

Wooot! :o

I always wanted to build a chainmail too, but I don't drink enough can drinks to use those tabs lol...

Looking kickass already though! :handgestures-thumbupright:

Thanks! :)

Instructables for the win!

Looking good man. Chainmail is tedious as hell to make, but damn if its not kick ass! :D

Making it for a Ren faire costume or just for the heck of it?

Post subject:  Re: And now for something different....

Just for fun.
But if I do get the chance, I would totally make costume with it for a Ren faire. :D

Haha, nice!.

I'd like to see the two of you at a Ren faire, one wearing a chainmail made out of can tabs, the other equipped with home made swords and armor emblazoned with fanged rabbit heads... :D

I had never laughed so hard right when I woke up. :D

An actual update: now that I have figured out the fastest way to get it done, it's going about ten times as fast.
I'm running out of tabs for now... >.>

I hope you will show the final result :p it might take a lot of time to achieve this

Author:  ChaosMarine [ Wed Apr 25, 2012 10:31 am ]
Post subject:  Re: And now for something different....

I most definitely will. :)
Actually, it takes less time than I had first thought. But it's still time-consuming.

@Xav: Win(and nice). lol

Post subject:  Re: And now for something different....

@Xav, that's the one, the crazy fanged and clawed rabbit of evil DEATH!!! >:D

Quite a nice design by the way, I like the mace too... :handgestures-thumbupright:

Returning to the chainmail, I'd sure like to see it completed, it would actually work quite well for armor... ;)

I'm not too sure what it'd be able to defend against, nowadays.... >.>

This is a seemingly small update, but an update nonetheless.

It's the backside of it.
They can be clipped(weaved on the page I started from) together faster from this side.

Edit: like this, it's about 23 inches long, and almost 8 inches tall.

Impressive!

About what it would defend against: Well, it won't protect against arrows or their modern counterparts: bullets.
But I'm sure that if you wear it underneath your normal clothing, it could very well protect from knife attacks. And it could also lessen the effects of blunt weaponry a bit, such as hammers or clubs or fists... ::)

After seeing it, I don't think haters could even come up with any halfway decent arguments.
I'm only 16, so I don't drink alcohol... However, I do try to avoid overdosing on anything.... >.>

I will admit, I am curious too...

Mal

P.S I am also tempted by making something like armour too... thinking a leather gauntlet or something...

I found a place online that allows full sets of actual armor to be ordered and made.

I want to make a doctor doom custume for halloween. >.>

I made me some spiked metal and leather hand guards last fall, and a sword like, yesterday. Its a lot of fun once you get the stuff you need to make it, and of course, your first successful project done.

I'm gonna go with fire axe handle and car fender piece for 200?

Author:  Captain Xavious [ Thu May 02, 2013 3:02 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: And now for something different....

Fireaxe handle: Yes.

Fender: No. This is cut from a 1/4 inch thick carbon steel plate. Fully ready for war.

Nice hand armour. Somehow reminds me of a MMORPG...

And cool sword too. Looks like I imagine an arabian cutlass... Yarr!

where did you get a steel plate?

Also I bet it weighs a freaking ton.

Baryonyx wrote:

Actually is closer to a scimitar than a cutlass. At first i thought falchion, but... not shaped right for that.

It was designed as an arabian scimitar of sorts, and yes, its heavy. :P

I have no idea where the steel plate came from, it was laying around collecting rust at my house for years.

did you have to shape it at all? I see some dings in it.
